Association for solid waste management, Imphal city, started an agitation today, and workers affiliated to it stopped lifting solid waste from the city.

Speaking to media person, worker of solid waste management for Imphal city, Khoirom Naobi said a dumping site located at Lamdeng, under Lamsang sub-division was set up in 2009 under the project of solid waste management by a firm Ramky of Hyderabad, and since then PDA and MAHUD department have taking care of the project.

Eve since the project started, the workers completed black toppings of approach roads and construction of retaining walls of the dumping site, without any remunerations paid to any worker, they said.

They said the workers had repeatedly demanded clearance of their salaries within the deadline of October 18, however this demand was not met. This has left the workers with workers with no option but to take up the drastic step of cease work strike from today.

They further said the workers stopped many dumping trucks from dumping solid waste at the site. The department concerned should release the due salaries together amounting to Rs. 83,27000 immediately to end the confrontation.

They said they will not withdraw their strike until their demands are fulfilled.
