Bishnupur – In search of an old Mandir

I had imagined it to be a very vast complex in half ruins that give a special mystic touch of archaeological value to old monuments. But this was comparatively a small, neatly preserved structure; just a mandap without statues or artistic works, at least on the outer surface. I do not know if I had expected something magnificent like Angkor Wat in Cambodia (one of my dream destinations) or the Sun Temple of Konark (a favourite haunt while I was in Orissa, now Odisha).

14. India imposed Armed Forces Special Power Act-1958
The British imperialists enacted the inhuman Armed Forces Special Ordinance in 1942 to crush the Indian freedom movement. The democratic India enacted a much more heinous version called the Armed Forces Special Powers Act called the Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA) on 22 May,1958. The AFSPA is the mother of all black laws in India. When the Act was legislated in 1958 to ‘combat’ insurgency there was only the Naga movement in the north-east. Over the last 57 years, the Act has been in force, it has only contributed to the rise of more and more insurgent outfits in the region.

NE, tourism potential and poor connectivity

It would not be any exaggeration to say that Korean movies, dramas, music and television serials have struck a chord with the people of Manipur, particularly the youngsters. Even Korean hair-styles have become quite popular among many punky youngsters. It was in this backdrop that Republic of Korea’s ambassador to India Cho Hyun expressed keen interest to establish business relations and foster better people to people contact between South Korea and the North East region.

National Doctors’ Day

IMPHAL, Jul 1: Shija Hospital and Research Institute (SHRI), Langol observed the National Doctors’ Day today at the institute’s auditorium to honour the contributions of renowned physician, Dr Bidhan Chandra Roy. Dr Bidhan Chandra Roy, also former CM of West Bengal, was born on July 1 in 1882 and passed away on his birthday in 1962. Dr Roy was honoured with the country’s highest civilian award, Bharat Ratna on February 4, 1961.
