IMPHAL, April 2: S. Ekendra Singh, AFC ‘A’ licencee was appointed as the coach of the state football team which will participate in the forthcoming N.E. Games to be held in Arunachal Pradesh and the 65th National Football Championshiop for Santosh Trophy in Assam. Kh. Ashok Kumar Singh and S. Maniratan Singh were also selected as the Manager and Coach of the Sr. Women Football Team which will participate in the 19th Sr. Women national Football Championship to be held in Chattisgarh stated the press release by L. Ranjit Roy, Hony. Secretary, All Manipur Football Assocation.

IMPHAL April 1: Displaying the spirit of nobility and gesture towards the needy, all ranks of 12 MARATHA LI numbering 150 and a large numbers of locals voluntarily donated blood at the blood donation camp conducted at Tulihal.
The Camp was organised by 12 MARATHA LI of 9 Sector under HQ IGAR(S) and Association of Voluntary Blood Donors, Manipur in collaboration with State Aids Control Society, State Blood Transfusion Council and Department of Blood Transfusion RIMS. Commandant 12 MARATHA LI was the first to donate blood and initiate the drive.  A number of civilians from nearby villages also joined in for the cause.  An awareness session was also conducted by Prof A Meina Singh, Dr Thomcha Khuman and Mr Pradeep Saikia; during the camp.  A couple donating blood for more than 25 times was the remarkable highlight of the camp. A PRO (AR) press release states.

IMPHAL, April 1: The 77th commemoration of Zeliangrong Solidarity Day (Chuk-Sumei Rites) was observed today at Zeliangrong Building, Kakhulong under the aegis of Zeliangrong Union (ZU) and Zeliangrong Youth Front (ZYF), Imphal Zone.
The function was president by Simon Chawang, vice president, Zeliangrong Union (AMN).
The general secretary ZU, in a statement stated that the historic occasion of Chuk-Sumei rites were performed by the forefather of the community 77 years ago on April, 1934 at Tamenglong district head quarter. The observation signifies of a sacred customary rite of cleansing all the sins of inter village feuds, intra tribe was, killing and blood revenge committed in the past by the tribe, with blessing for brighter future of the posterity.
It said the observation forbade any inter village and intra tribe war and bloodshed in future, and pronounced a curse to befall on those who would subvert the unity and solidarity of the Zeliangrong community.
The function was attended by leaders of ZU, ZYF, ZCCHCP, Village elders, youth clubds and general public of the community, said the statement.

IMPHAL April 1: 43 Assam Rifles under the aegis of Head Quarter 59 Mountain Brigade of Red Shield Division, presented eight sets of solar lighting system to remote villages of Chonglang, Makokching, Songbem and Gangpijang of Saikul region under MCA projects today. Chiefs and representative of respective villages received the solar lights for their schools and villages.  These solar lights are a big step towards over all development of these remote villages especially for school children. Further, as part of ‘Op Sadbhavana’ project, 43 Assam Rifles  under the aegis of Head Quarter 59 Mountain Brigade presented five computers with accessories to Maira Paibi Apunba Lup School, Kanglatungbi today. The representatives of the school and village received the computers and thanked the commander for his benevolence and philanthropic act.  These computers will help the school children to match the fast growing pace of modern world in computer field and orientate themselves for the job avenues available in the field of computer science. A PIB (DW) release states.

IMPHAL April 1: Discovering the transportation of contraband items, troops of 42 Assam Rifles  launched an  operation in  Bongyang area on 30 March and apprehended four individuals  and one woman along with contraband items from  two Scorpio vehicles bearing registration number MN04 A /5537 and MN01/ 0836 moving from Imphal towards Moreh.
 The apprehended persons are  identified as Th Sankhm Akash Singh, 25, s/o Yaisku singh of Moreh Turel Wangma Leikai,  Amrjeet,   26, s/o late  N Ibopishak Singh of Lamding Cherapur,  Pritam Singh ,20 , s/o Late Bijoy Sningh of Moreh Town,  Dipak Ashebam , 28 , s/o Purna Chandra Ashelam of Porompat, and  Haymar Devi, 22 , d/o Bahadur Prasad of Shantinagar ward No 7 Moreh.25 Bags of Actifield tablets were recovered from the apprehendees and later handed over to customs office, Pallel. A press release states.

IMPHAL April 01 : TRUGPU beat SU 1-0 in the second Semi final in the ongoing 1st M. Mahendra Memorial Football tournament which is being held at the Moirang Multipurpose Higher Secondary School.
The lone goal of the match was scored by M. Dhananjoy of TRUGPU of a flag kick by Anthony in the 56th minute. Gobin of TRUGPU was booked with a yellow card in the 17th minute of the match for unsporting behaviour. TRUGPU will clash with SSU in the final of the 1st edition of M. Mahendra Memorial football tournament on the 3rd of April, 2011.

IMPHAL April 1:  Moirangthem Landhoni, who has been undergoing a hunger strike at Guwahati Central Jail since March 8 is said to be in serious and her condition is deteriorating.
According to reliable sources, doctors are having a tough time trying to find her veins for administering life saving drugs at present.
It may be mentioned that, Landhoni was arrested at Guwahati when she went to meet her husband Kh Jiten, an UNLF cadre arrested from Guwahati and presently imprisioned at Guwahati jail. She was charged by the NIA for allegedly having links with the UNLF outfit even though she was granted bail earlier.
She completed 25 days of fast decrying the NIA charge against her. She was earlier discharged from Guwahati Medical Hospital as her health had improved and sent back to Guwahati Jail.
