IMPHAL, Feb 9: Troops of 43 AR arrested three cadres of UPPK, including a woman, from Kanglatombi market and recovered a 9mm pistol from them. The militants identified as s/s 2nd Lt Maibam Ratan, son of Ibohal of Wabagai Yanglam, s/s rect officer Angom Ingobi Singh, son of Sidam of Phayeng Ching Khunou and Nengneikim Khongsai, daughter of late Khatlem of Churachandpur have been handed over to Sekmai police station.

IMPHAL, Feb 10: Women’s Action for Development (WAD) in a release has strongly decried the rising crime and violence in the society stating that the number of deaths in blasts and other unwanted incidents has increased tremendously. It appealed to all state and non-state actors to shun violence and ensure the “right to life” of the people of the state.

UKHRUL, Feb.9: A two-hour-long public curfew was imposed in Ukhrul town demanding the immediate and unconditional release of  Anthony Shing or better known as Ningkhan Shimray, the Head of Foreign Affairs of the NSCN (I-M) who had been involved in Indo-Naga Peace parley seven times consecutively. He was allegedly abducted from Tribhuvan Airport, Katmandu, Nepal on  September 27 last.

Ukhrul wore a completely deserted look during the curfew. Normal life in the district headquarter was paralyzed as the free movement of vehicles, shops, offices or other related social activities were affected.

IMPHAL, Feb 9: The election agent of Nungba INC candidate, John Pamei in a release has clarified that the workers of MSCP and NPF were trying to sabotage the re-polls by pelting stones at the polling stations. The Congress workers including himself had not done anything to disrupt the poll procedures as alleged by the MSCP and NPF.

He further stated that he did not carry any handgun to threaten the officials inside the polling station. It was a wild allegation as everyone was thoroughly frisked by the security personnel before entering the polling booth.

IMPHAL, Feb 9: The policy document on electoral reforms formulated on the basis of recommendations of Berlin Conference organized by Campaign for Electoral Reforms (CERI) was formally released by the Chief Election Commissioner of India SY Quraishi in a function held today at Constitution Club, New Delhi.

CPI state secretary Dr M Nara is leading a delegation of 50 members from the Northeast including AMWJU representative Ningombam Noren in a two-day national conference on proportionate electoral reforms to be held from February 10-11 at International Youth Centre, New Delhi.

IMPHAL, Feb 9: Discovering the movement of UG cadre in Khongjom Maning Leikai, troops of 15 Assam Rifles and 27 Assam Rifles of 9 Sector under HQ IGAR (South) launched joint  operation in the area and apprehended one UNLF  cadre on 08 Jan 2012. The apprehendee was identified as No 2145, SS Pvt Mutum Romesh Singh alias Khunthiba, 25yrs, s/o Mr Dhanonjoy, r/o Khongjom Maning Leikai.
