IMPHAL, June 30: The All India Youth Federation, (AIYF) Manipur state council, has urged the government to promulgate fixed rate fare for all vehicles plying in the state.

The federation in a press communiqué stated that it is unfortunate that with no official fixation of fare the private passenger vehicles servicing in the state are charging the passengers at their own will.

It pointed out that there are many vehicles charging 10 rupees within 0 km.

It has further drawn the attention of the government and the concerned authority to regulate a genuine fare for all the vehicles in consideration with the current average economy and bind all the vehicles to comply with it.

It contended that charging passengers with the rate of individual capacity taking advantages of the passenger’s helplessness is liable to take action upon per the law.

It urged the authority concerned to give clarification in this regard and also to take up necessary measures to control the menace.

IMPHAL, June 30: A man succumbed to his injuries at the JNIMS after being assaulted by Meira Paibis of Chumbreithong on the charge of committing theft today.

According to a statement issued by the SP Imphal East district, today at about 11:30 pm two unknown persons were caught and assaulted by the Chumbreithong Meira Paibis along with others for allegedly stealing articles from Veirot Workshop at the area.

It said that as a result of the assault the two persons received serious injuries on their persons and evacuated to the JNIMS hospital for medical treatment however one of the injured victim succumbed to his injuries.

A case has been registered against the people of the localities at the Heingang Police station and three accused have also been arrested in this connection, it said.

IMPHAL, June 30: Decrying the bomb attack at the residence of one executive engineer Thokchom Kesho yesterday, the local women folks under the aegis of Young Rising Star Club organized a sit-in-protest today at Kwakeithel Nganu Lampak community hall. 

Speaking to mediapersons, a lady protestor N Meena stated that the bomb attack should not have been carried out in a residential area where a large number of students reside in nearby rented houses.

She has demanded the concerned organization to make clarifications for such an attack and appealed to avoid such untoward incident in the future.

IMPHAL, June 29: Security forces have apprehended four individuals along with banned wild life products in separation search operation conducted yesterday, informed a statement of the PRO IGAR (S).  

In the first incident troops of 31 Assam Rifles along with lady police apprehended three women along with banned wild life products from a Bolero vehicles with registration No. 04A 3113 while conducting an operation in the general area of Khudengthabi on June 28.

The arrested women were identified as one Kikim Haokip, 42, w/o Robat Haokip of Checkon, Imphal, Ruth Liangmei, 35, d/o John Liangmei of Lanka, Senapati and LK Hokep, 39,w/o Hamang of Songluna, Motbung.

It further said that 12 kgs of Pangolin Shells, two mobile hand set and Indian currency 4040 were recovered from them.

They were later handed over to the customs office, Moreh, it added.

It said in another incident, troops of 29 Assam Rifles along with lady police have arrested another individual along with banned wild life items while conducting an operation in the general area of Sita Track yesterday.

The individual is identified as one Panewat, 33, w/o Yangam of Moreh. 1800 number of Pangollin shells, one mobile phone and Indian currency 505 were recovered from the person who along with the recovered items has been handed over to the chief conservator, Forest department, Imphal, it further adds.

IMPHAL, June 29: The award distribution function of 13th Major Pagin Kipgen Foundation Meritorious Award, 2011 was held at District Council Hall, Kangpokpi.

SH Seipu, chairman Sadar Hills ADC, Thangminlien Kipgen, chairman Hill Areas Committee, and Haokholal Hangshing, vice-chairman Sadar Hills ADC, as the chief guest, president and guest of honour respectively.

Altogether 10 students were awarded the meritorious award carrying Rs 5000 each for their outstanding performance at the board examinations.

IMPHAL June 29: H Bekar emerged champion of the U-14 in the Governor’s trophy tennis championship which concluded today at the Officer’s Club premise at Lamphelpat. 

In the final of the U-14 boys played today Bekar defeated Calvin Golmei in two sets, 6-2, 6-4.

In the girls U-14 final, Jennifer defeated H Puya by 6-2, 6-4.

The prize distribution for the championship was held today in which YAS minister DD Thaisii attended as the chief guest and distributed prizes to winners and runners-up players of different age group category.

The championship was held for U-10, U-12, U-14 for both boys and girls.

In the girls U-10 final Jennifer defeated Bunty while in the boys U-12 Kelvin defeated Musha MM. In U-10 boys final, Ng Lely beat Anukul Naorem.

IMPHAL, June 29: Nearly 150 houses and 3000 hectares of paddy fields and fish farms at Nambol Kongkham have been flooded due to overflowing of the Nambol River. 

The flood affected people have taken shelter in relief camps opened by local volunteers. The relief committee of Kongkham today distributed rice to the flood affected families at Kongkham Loyalakpa Laibung community hall.

Eight kilograms of rice were given to the worst affected families while four kilograms of rice were distributed free of cost amongst the flood affected families.

Speaking at the sideline of the distribution of relief materials, the secretary of the relief committee, Toijam Nando decried the apathy of the local MLA. He said that some local volunteers have formed a committee and with their own contributions some quantity of rice has been procured for distribution to the flood victims.

There could have been no flood if the concerned MLA has taken the needful action of strengthening the embankments and cleaning the canals before the arrival of the monsoon. Even after such adversities the local MLA has remained blindfolded to the woes and sufferings of the people of Nambol Kongkham, he added.

IMPHAL, June 29: Manipur bagged 12 gold, six silver and five bronze medals at the 35th national Armwrestling championship held at Ludhiana, Punjab from June 16 to 20. 

In the junior girls category A Premila won gold in 45kg category while Ch Minerva, S Aruna and L Chaoba too bagged gold in the 60th, 70th and 70+ categories respectively. L Ranjita bagged silver in the 45kg category while Th Sangeeta and Rojimala bagged bronze medals in the 50kg and 55kg respectively of the section while Kh Ganita was fourth position holder in the 50kg category.

In the junior boys 70kg category, Th Ringo bagged gold while K Surjit bagged bronze.

In the women’s section, S Rani bagged gold in the 60kg while Ch Inaobi, M Memcha, S Inao and L Pusparani bagged gold respectively in the 70kg, 80kg, 80+kg and 65kg bout.

M Abe, Chanchalkumari and S Aruna also bagged silver medals in the 55kg, 65kg and 70kg respectively while Millonda bagged bronze in the 60kg category as also S Anita in the same weight category.

In the men’s 70kg category Md Kalam won silver medal.

IMPHAL, June 29: FLAM defeated UVSA while Chingtam defeated AYMFA in today’s matches of the 1st Ng Shamu Veteran Football tournament being held at YWC ground, Malom. 

In the first ground match played today, FLAM defeated UVSA by 4-3 goals.

Joy Rongmei scored two goals for the winner in the 14th and 51st minute while N Bobo too scored two goals for the team in the 36th and 47th minutes.

The goals for UVSA were scored by Sanatomba, Baleshwor in the 34th and 44th minutes of the first half respectively while the third goal for the team was scored by N Sagor in the 56th minute.

In the second ground match, Chingtam blanked AYMFA by two goals.

For the winning team both the goals were scored by Md Azad in the 22nd and 39th minute.

In tomorrow’s matches, IVFA play VSAN in first ground while TRVSA play AYMFA.

IMPHAL, June 28: One alleged thief was killed in a mob furry while his companion has been admitted at the JNIMS with serious injuries, this early morning at Mantripukhri area.

According to local source, the incident happened this early morning at Mantripukhri, when the two thieves were nabbed by the locals while they were trying to enter a workshop.

The source also added that the locals thrashed the two alleged thieves meanwhile a team of the Heignang police arrived at the scene and controlled the mob.

However one of the thieves who is yet to be identified succumbed on is way to the hospital while his companion identified as Okram Manglemjao, 30, s/o late Thambou of Pangei Okram Leikai is fighting for his life at the JNIMS.

The dead body of the alleged unidentified thief has been deposited at the JNIMS morgue.
