JIRIBAM, Jan 21 : A team of Jiribam police led by Special Task Force in-charge, A Krishnakumar (ASI) seized 12,000 WY tablets (60 packets) from a vehicle coming from Imphal, yesterday.
Speaking at a press meet held at Jiribam SP office today, SP, M Mubi Singh stated that the seized tablets would be worth around Rs 36 lakh in the local market and Rs 60 lakh in the international market.
He stated that the police team conducted frisking and checking at Leingangpokpi along NH 37 and during the operation, one Cruiser vehicle (regd no. AS 11BC 9503) fled the check post without stopping. The team chased down the vehicle and found the WY tablets inside the vehicle.
The SP said that Jiribam police have been conducting various drives to prevent any illegal activities from happening in the district and in connection with the Republic Day, stringent checking and frisking are being conducted at various locations.

IMPHAL, Jan 21 : A torch rally was organised by Nungoi Awang Leikai Meira Paibi, Pourabi Nupi Lamjing Lup, Pourabi Yaipha Naharol Kanglup, Pourabi Raising Star Club and Pourabi Development Committee from the office of Pourabi Yaipha Naharol Kanglup today.
The rally passed through Pourabi village and headed for Sawombung, demanding justice for Pravish Chanam and CBI enquiry at the earliest. The rally was organised to remind the State Government that the deadline for calling a Cabinet meeting and handing the case to the CBI is January 27.
The participants of the rally demanded the Government to provide a positive response prior to the deadline so as to avoid any unwanted incidents.

Court halts marriage

IMPHAL, Jan 21: The Family Court, Manipur has halted the scheduled marriage between a man and woman after another woman whom the same man eloped earlier lodged a complaint at the Court.
Khumukcham Rajkumar s/o Kh Meipak of Brahmapur Nahabam Bamon Leikai and a woman from Top Upokpi Mayai Leikai had eloped on December 12. Subsequently, their marriage ceremony was fixed on February 2 and bride’s family have already distributed invitation cards.
However, in the meantime, Rajkumar was planning to marry another woman from Khurai Thoudam Leikai tomorrow. After hearing the plaintiff’s prayer for injunction to the marriage between the man and the woman from Khurai Thoudam Leikai, the Court issued an order restraining the marriage scheduled tomorrow.

IMPHAL, Jan 21: Decrying that the Chief Minister-gi Hakshelgi Tengbang (CMHT) launched by the Chief Minister today does not have any provision for the welfare of Accredited Social Health Activists (ASHAs), a large number of ASHAs today staged a protest demonstration by burning different articles particularly clothes in front of Khuman Lampak Indoor Stadium soon after Chief Minister N Biren and Health Minister L Jayantakumar left the place after launching CMHT.
Notably, the scheme was launched as a part of the Statehood Day celebration.
Some ASHAs told media persons that the scheme launched today could not be effectively implemented without ASHAs.

KHLYSC stages sit-in-protest

IMPHAL, Jan 21: As part of the justice campaign being spearheaded by People Action Committee (PAC), AMSU, DESAM, KSA, MSF, SUK and Youth Forum for Protection of Human Rights in connection with the death of Pravish Chanam at Noida, a sit in protest was staged at Khagempali Huidrom Leikai Lairembi Lampak, Imphal West today.
The protest was organized by Khagempali Huidrom Leikai Youth & Social Club (KHLYSC) and womenfolk of Khagempali Huidrom Leikai.
Speaking to reporters, KHLYSC’s president Moirangthem Ibohal decried that the UP Government and Central Government have not been making any progress in the investigation into the mysterious death of Pravish Chanam even after four months.
Moirangthem Ibohal went on to say that such inaction of the Uttar Pradesh Government and Central Government evoked a strong feeling of racial discrimination towards the people of North East and urged the State Government to exert pressure on the Uttar Pradesh Government and the Centre to find out the murderers of Pravish Chanam to bring justice to the State and the whole North East region.
