IMPHAL, March 23: A short rainstorm swept several parts of the state in the afternoon today leaving many houses and standing properties damaged.
However no human casualty was inflicted during the storm.
The rainstorm swept at around 1 to 1:30 pm and lasted for only a few minutes.
The storm have reportedly damage about 15 houses besides ruining agricultural crops at Telou Mayai Leikai under Lamlai Police station and fallen several tree branches.
About 10 houses also suffered the same fate in different parts of Kakching area due to the storm besides reports of fallen trees and electric polls in the area.
In the meantime the roof of a yet to be completed community hall located at Pallel Turel Thongwangma was also reportedly blown away during the storm.    
Although the accurate wind speed of the storm was not available, the average wind speed is recorded at 16 km/hr.

IMPHAL, May 26: At around 6.40pm in the evening, Moirangthem Meghachandra Singh passed away yesterday at his residence in Uripok Ningthoukhongjam Leiki, after a prolonged illness.

He was born on 24 August1924. In 1958, he passed Bachelor of Laws from the University of Delhi and was elected as the Member of Parliament in the 4th Lok Sabha from Inner Manipur Parliamentary Constituency in the year 1967. He was consequently elected as the member of Manipur Legislative Assembly twice, from Uripok Assembly Constituency in the year 1972 and 1974 and also served as the Cabinet Minister of Education, Medical, Forest and Corporation. He also served as the Chairman of the Manipur Public Service Commission from January 1981 to January 1987.

He is survived by his wife, three sons, six daughters, four grandsons and eight granddaughters.

IMPHAL, May 29: The Meitei Council Moreh in a statement expressed that the indefinite bandh imposed along the NH-39, Imphal to Moreh, by Leibi Village authority has adversely affected the public and people living on daily trade.

It said that if the bandh continues the people will be left to starve. The MCM further appealed the Leibi Village authority to adopt another means considering the hardship of the people and also urged the state Government to intervene on the genuine demand and sort an amicable solution.

IMPHAL, May 31: Relying on the official information on the increasing trend of trafficking of narcotic drugs imported from neighboring Myanmar country by the local dealers, an official team of Narcotic Control Bureau Government of India led by VS Sahasane Asst. director Ops a unit of Ministry of home affairs, government of India has arrived in the state capital on May 29, to launch a major drive in the state.

According to an official source the central NCB team along with state unit NCB of Manipur police department will start the special operations to drive against the illegal selling of narcotic drugs in the state as a part of preventive measures for the eradication of drug trafficking in the state the source added.

IMPHAL May 3: The Lilong Kendra Development Committee (LKDC) in a press release by its secretary general of the committee, Md Abdul Quadir has stated that the positive stance taken by the 11 clans of Sangaiyumfam to pacify the Phundreimayum and Yumkhaibam clan conflict is commendable and wholly supported.

The public of Lilong understands that the conflict is a result of the underhanded politics of minister Md Alauddin, it charged.

The release further states that the minister originally hails from Lilong but knowing that his political future is bleak there, had shifted to Keirao to contest the elections.

Now, the recent developments are a clear indication that the public of Keirao have lost their trust in him.

Further, the minister never stands a change in contesting at Lillong as the area has more than enough qualified persons, Lillong has produced the first Chief Minister of the state, and others like Md Maniruddin Seikh, Md Habibur Rahaman .

IMPHAL, June 6: Residents of Kongba, Heinoubond, Ayangpalli, Wangkhei Thangjam Leikai, Laishram Leikai, Konsam Leikai, Koijam Leikai convened a public meeting on June 5 at the Kongba Laishram Leikai Youth club ground to discuss about the likely impact on the local populace in the setting up of high transmission electricity line for the upcoming 33KVA power sub-station at Sangaipat, a release of the Kongba Laishram Leikai Youths Club said.
The public meeting was held in the presence of local MLA Th Nandakishor and later resolved to halt process of lying high power electrict line to 33KVA power sub-station at Sangaipat through inter-village roads and densely populated area.
While condemning state power department and state information commission for outrightly rejecting local people’s request for furnishing some information regarding the 33KVA station project at Sangaipat, the meeting resolved that concerned authority should revealed all information about the upcoming project.
The meeting also resolved that the Sangaipat electricity project should be taken up after conducting proper environment assessment failing which local populace will launch severe forms of agitation, the release said adding the local MLA was asked to inform government about local people’s resentment.

IMPHAL, June 18: 28 Assam Rifles, Lilong post save a snake bite victim on June 17 at Lilong Nungei.

According to a release of the AR at around 3:30 pm on June 17,  Md Nazir, 25, s/o late Sanakhamba, resident of Lilong Nungei was bitten by a venomonus snake while he was working in a paddy  field. He was immediately brought to the Lilong Post of 28 Assam Rifles at 4:30pm on June 17, where he was immediately attended to and was given first aid by nursing staff of the post.

Immediate rescue and timely treatment yielded in saving the life of the person who was in a dire state added the release.

IMPHAL, June 25: A 42 year old man was yesterday evening lynched by a mob after he was allegedly caught attempting to rape a 13 year old minor, at Hundung Junction of Ukhrul.

The deceased is identified as one Chansui Luithui, 42, s/o (L) Remember Luithui of Lamtang village, Ukhrul district.

Sources have identified the individual as a headmaster of a school in Ukhrul.

He was nabbed from Ukhrul Jail road by the locals after he was found taking away a girl, added the source.

The source further mentioned that he was killed by the mob even as he was being paraded before the villagers at the Hundung junction, Ukhrul district last night.

IMPHAL, June 30: The All India Youth Federation, (AIYF) Manipur state council, has urged the government to promulgate fixed rate fare for all vehicles plying in the state.

The federation in a press communiqué stated that it is unfortunate that with no official fixation of fare the private passenger vehicles servicing in the state are charging the passengers at their own will.

It pointed out that there are many vehicles charging 10 rupees within 0 km.

It has further drawn the attention of the government and the concerned authority to regulate a genuine fare for all the vehicles in consideration with the current average economy and bind all the vehicles to comply with it.

It contended that charging passengers with the rate of individual capacity taking advantages of the passenger’s helplessness is liable to take action upon per the law.

It urged the authority concerned to give clarification in this regard and also to take up necessary measures to control the menace.

MOREH, July 4: Following erratic service of the BSNL services at Moreh, irate customers of the border town came out in droves to complain to the BSNL office and after finding out that there was no one at the office to attend to their grievances burnt SIM cards and other materials near the Moreh Bazar today morning in protest.

The BSNL which is one of the main service providers to Moreh residents for mobile and internet services has remained nonfunctional for the past week, affecting trade and commerce in Moreh town which conducts business to the tune of crores daily.

Local customers of the network said that repeated complaints regarding the erratic services, have fallen on deaf ears.

IMPHAL July 23: The Manipur Naga Revolutionary Front (MNRF) in a release by its publicity secretary Max Stone clarifies that the outfit is not involved in abduction of one Nilo Singh and another JCB driver. The duo was abducted in between Yeasom village and Natyang Kuki village when they were working for road repairs at Chandrakhong, under Kasom sub division.

It said that those behind the abduction should refrain from using the name of the outfit which has been creating confusion to the concerned. It is an attempt to malign the image of the outfit, it stated.
