IMPHAL, June 4: The 1st State level Festival of contemporary Plays which started since April 22, organised by the Manipur State Kala Academy, Imphal under the aegis of Ministry of Tourism and Culture was held its valedictory function today at JN Danqce Academy in the presence of Lok Sabha MP Dr. T. IMPHAL, June 7: Altogether seven suspects of the proscribed PLA have been arrested from Guwahati, Assam, in the wee hour today by a combined team of Assam Police and 128 CRPF battalion.Reports said that the PLA suspects were arrested from Rangoli apartment, situated at Christian Basti, under the Guwahati Police station at around 3 am. The individuals have been identified to be S. Kunjabihari, 52, Saphaba Mangang, 33, L. Modhu Singh, 54, L. Joychandra, 32, HP. Singh, 43, K. Deni Singh, 40, and Lairenlakpam Irabot, 52.Five mobile handsets including some cash were recovered from the arrested individuals, it said.However detailed information of the arrest could not be acquired and it was reported that further investigation was going on in full swing.

IMPHAL, June 12: The Medical Directorate government of Manipur has informed that all the candidates who appeared in the MBBS/BDS entrance examination, 2011 on Sunday will be awarded with four marks as grace mark following error committed on four questions.

The questions includes series A, question No.90, series B Question NO. 85, Series C question No. 80 and Series D question 100, it said.

The Entrance test for admission to the MBBS/BDS for the session 2011 was successfully conducted in all 11 centres located in the greater Imphal areas today under tight security arrangment.

IMPHAL June 16: Childline Manipur in a press release by its director Sharaju has stated that through timely action initiated by Childline, the lives of 5 boys have been saved.

It stated that on specific information that the boys hailing from Ithing and Karang were about to be taken to Chennai sans consent of the responsible authorities, the boys were rescued at Sekmai with the help of state police and they were handed over to the Child Welfare Committee of Bishnupur District.

The statement appealed the public to intimate Childline if such similar suspicious activities occur in future.

IMPHAL, June 18: Two police constables of Imphal West Police identified as S Suranjoy and Gegarin Yumnam have been selected to undergo the course on “Computer Application and CIPA Software Aplication from June 20 to July 9 next month at the North Eastern Police Academy Shilong.

SP Imphal West in pursuance of the recent DGP order in this regard the official order was issued for the release of said two personnel of Imphal West from June 16 afternoon and both personnel were also advised to report the Director, North Eastern Police Academy Meghalaya on June 19.

IMPHAL, June 21: S.S.Khaplang, chairman of the National Socialist Council of Nagaland, has expelled Khole Konyak from the post of commander-in-chief, Naga army with effect from today, informed a statement issued by P. Tikhak, spokesperson, NSCN/GPRN.

It said that gen. Konyak is expelled from the party for his anti party activities, who had in recent past joint hands with the break away group led by Kitovi Zhimomi. He is replaced by an incumbent Kumchok as the commander-in-chief, Naga Army, it added.

Kumchok joined the Naga army in the year 1965, and has served in different capacities. He will be assisted by the senior commander of the Naga Army brigadier Nyemlang Konyak as general staff officer- I (GSO-I) and another senior army officer brigadier Ponglem as GSO-II with immediate effect, further informed the statement.

The central committee members are Paliba, Imocha, Yaikhomba, Sunil, Ningthi, Irei, Rajen and Rakesh. The selected district committee members are Chamba, Sagar,Jiten, Boby, Nonocha, Eshingchaoba, Kesho, Shilheiba, LAngam,Yaima and Tayaima.

IMPHAL, June 28: Major General Bonoy Poonam, VSM has arrived at Leimakhong Army headquarter today to take over command of the Red Shield Division from Maj. Gen. DS Hooda.

In the meantime during the formal handing over of the post of commander of Red Shield Division today, Maj Gen DS Hooda GOC 57 Mt.Div expressed his gratitude to the state government, the state police and other security officials, IGAR (S), media houses and NGOs for their unstinted support.

IMPHAL, June 1: Two NSCN (IM) Cadres were apprehended by troops of Red Shield Division with weapons at Manipur, Nagaland border near village Khunphung under Tamei subdivision. They were identified as self styled lieutenant Amo and self styled private Awangbo. Two AK 56 rifles, 35 live rounds, four detonators and 250 gms of plastic explosive were recovered from the apprehended cadres.  

The apprehended cadres were handed over to Police at Imphal West Police Station added the release.

Self styled Lieutenant Amo was apprehended by troops on 06 July last year and handed over to Police in Imphal. But he jumped bail and went back to join NSCN (IM).

In another operation, troops of Red Shield division recovered an arms cache from gen area Yang Khullen in Senapati district. The arms cache that was buried underground consisted of a 12 bore single barrel rifle, six live 8mm rounds, three Chinese grenades and two HE 36 grenades. The recovery was later handed over to Police Station, Mao added the release.

IMPHAL, July 4: Many tribal bodies have condemned the reported manhandling of a person mistaking him to be the general secretary of Committee on Protection of Tribal Areas Manipur (COPTAM) by miscreants on June 28 at around 2 pm at North AOC.

The Tangkhul Aze Katamnao Long (TAKL) in a statement has maintained that attack was not a wise move. While stating that the body does not appreciate the attack it strongly condemned the act branding it as inhumanities activities and urged not to repeat in the future.

The student’s bodies asked the government of Manipur to intervene into the matter in time.

The Thadou Students’ Association (TSA) Chandel district has also strongly condemned the act and has asked the state government to bear the responsibility for any unwanted incidents and problems relating to the matter.

In the meantime the Kuki Students’ Organisation (KSO) while condemning the incident has said that the government knows if the tribal body investigate deeply they may be deployed by the state government and asserted that the government should find out the culprit.

It asked the state government to be the sole responsible for all untoward incidents relating to the demands and movements of the COPTAM.

IMPHAL, July 7: A jawan of the Sashastra Sima Bal (SSB) was found dead inside a room of hotel Royal located at North AOC, Imphal in the morning today.

The victim was identified as one Ngahani Hounu, 38, s/o Henry of Kamjong Bungpang Khunou, Ukhrul.

Police sources said that the deceased was posted at UP and came to Imphal on July 5 on leave and had been staying at Royal hotel since then.

Hotel staff broke open the door to his room when he failed to response, said the police.

The cause of death is yet to be ascertained till the filing of this report and the police have registered a case in connection with the incident.

The corpse of the victim has been handed over to the family after post mortem.

IMPHAL, July 23: The landslide on the western side of Heibok Ching at Langthabal in Imphal West district further buried a house today apart from a fish farm and rice mill that were buried by the same landslide on Friday.

The buried house belongs to RK Nobinsana of Naran Konjil Mayai Leikai.

According to the owner, the landslide happened today and buried some parts of his house which is at a distance of about 15 feet from the hillock.

He also demanded the authorities concerned to take up necessary action to prevent such disaster in the future.

IMPHAL, July 27: The foundation day off Central Reserve Police Force was celebrated by 69 Bn CRPF at Mantripukhri Headquarters today.

A release of DC 69 Bn CRPF stated that the erstwhile Crown Representative Police established by the British on July 27, 1939 was renamed as Central Reserve Police Force on December 28, 1949 by enacting the CRPF Act, 1949.

The foundation day celebration was marked by organizing inter-company games and sports, cultural programmes followed by a grand feast.

Speaking at the function, deputy commandant RV Philip highlighted the achievements of the battalion. The battalion has done commendable job in securing NH-53 during the two- month long economic blockade in 2010. The battalion has continued to do the same by providing full proof security to vital installations in Imphal city and escorting civil/FCI convoy plying on NH-39.
