IMPHAL, Aug 7: All Manipur Students’ Union (AMSU) has appealed to the authorities concerned to resolve the present crisis of Sadar Hills and ensure that the blockade on the national highways is lifted in the interests of the people of the state. A release of the AMSU stated that the national highways have been used by some organizations as a tool to fulfill some of their vested interests. The central as well as state government should set up highway protection force to ensure that no disturbance is given to the transportation of essential commodities, it added.

IMPHAL, Aug 19: The combine team of district police commandos of Thoubal and personnel of 42 AR apprehended one active cadre of the militant outfit KCP (MC) identified as Moirnagthem Kiran Singh alias Mocha, 25, s/o late M Mohen Singh ofWangjing Hodamba Canteen Awang Leikai on August 18 evening around 6.30 pm during a search operation conducted at Pallel bazaar area.

According to an official release of the SP Thoubal, K Jayanta Singh, MPS, the combined security team have bean able to seized two live rounds of 9mm ammunitions, one demand letter of KCP (MC), one mobile phone having SIM No. 8575730149 from the possession of the arrested person.

IMPHAL August 19:  A one day capacity building programme on violence against women was held today at Loyalakpa community hall in Thinungei, Bishnupur district.

The one awareness programme was organized by the Accredited Social Health Activists (ASHA) of Thinungei under the aegis of Women Action Development, Palace compound.

The programme was presided over by L. Ibopishak Singh, pradhan, Thinungei Gram Panchayet while Kh. Sorojini Devi, member, Thinungei, Zilla Parisad graced the function as the chief guest.

Sobita Mangsatabam, secretary WAD and advocate Soibam Hemanta Singh were also present during the function as the resource persons.

The cadre is identified as one SS/L Cpl Luwanthem Jackson alias Umphaba Singh, 24, s/o L. Nabachandra Singh of Yairipok Kak Mayai. He have been handed over to the Imphal West police station, informed a statement of the PRO IGAR (S).

IMPHAL August 28: The 69th Battalion of CRPF this evening organized Iftar Party at the Battalion’s compound located at Mantripukhri in Imphal.

The function held on the eve of Ramjan was attended by its commandant U.B. Mishra as the chief guest.

During the function, Mishra handed over a sum of Rs. 16500 and 700 dresses to the poor children of the village of Kasimpur, Jiribam sub division. Some villagers from Kasimpur were present at the function.

The amounts along with the dresses were contributed by the personnel of the 69th Battalion.

IMPHAL, Sept 18: The NSCN-K/ GPRN, Zeliangrong Region has refuted the claimed made by the Imphal West district police commandos of arresting a cadre of the outfit stating that the individual has nothing to do with the outfit.

A statement issued by the outfit’s region chairman R. Adon, the two individuals identified as Tengkaoranmei Joy s/o TR. Tantong of Taodaijang and Gonsenlung Rongmei alias Agang is in no way related to the outfits civil administration nor in army wing even though the Imphal west police have claimed to arrest them from Bimol hotel as NSCN (K) cadres.

It has further stated that the two are frauds who had been trying to tarnish the image of the outfit. It further asserted that the outfit would not sit silent until the duo clarifies. Moreover it strongly warned (public/civilian) those who are loitering around, using the name of the outfit to mend their ways or face the worst consequences without a warning.

Itanagar, April 4(MIC): The All Arunachal Pradesh Students’’ Union (AAPSU) has expressed concern over the reported move of Nagaland People’s Front (NPF) to launch its unit in the state. AAPSU president Takam Tatung in a communiqué today urged NPF to refrain from dividing people of Arunachal on communal line.
“The move of NPF to form its party unit in Arunachal is unacceptable to the people of Arunachal,” he said. Questioning the motive behind the move, Tatung said, “NPF is planning to start its state unit claiming that Nagas live in Tirap and Changlang districts.” But as per our knowledge, all the tribes living in these two districts are Arunachalee tribals and have nothing to do with Nagas of Nagaland or Manipur.

IMPHAL, April 8: The Directorate of Civil Defence, Government of Manipur has informed that, the admit card for the written examination for the recruitment to the post of Women Civil Defence Demonstrator shall be isuued from April 11 to April 15 this month from Room No. 150, Ministers`™ Block, New Secretariat, Imphal from 10 an till 4 pm.

The official notification issued by the staff officer of state Directorate of Civil Defence, mentioned that, those candidates, who have not yet submitted two passport size photographs attested by a gazetted officer should immediately do so, failing which admit cards shall not be issued to them and the written examination shall be held at Manipur Public Service Commission (MPSC) Examination hall, North AOC, Imphal from 10 am till 12 on April 16 this month, the official order added.

IMPHAL, April 11: Miscreant exploded a bomb at residence of Md Nasir 45 s/o Md Ali of Lilong bazaar, a primary teacher of district council Tamenglong located at Lilong bazaar last night around 10 pm under Lilong police station.
According to police source, the bomb exploded in the courtyard of the residence however there was no report of casualties except inflicting damage of some properties.
The motive behind the attack could not be confirmed and police has registered a case in connection with the incident.

IMPHAL, April 15: A musical night was organised by 16 MARATHA LI to promote peace and goodwill in Manipur at Gothal (Bishenpur) on 23 January 2011.  The program was a grand success and was attended by hundreds of villagers from surrounding villages of THANGJING area.  The program included band concert and musical performance by local artists.  The event symbolised the excellent rapport shared between army and the local population of the area.  The local village chiefs expressed their gratitude to the Army for organising the musical evening and emphasised that such a program was not held in this area after the ethnic clashes in the nineties.  The program concluded with the Commanding Officer,  Col MC Aiyappa of 16 MARATHA LI   giving away the prizes to the deserving artists.  Finally he wished the public a peaceful and prosperous year.

IMPHAL, April 18: Properties worth over 2 lakhs have been destroyed during a sudden fire that broke out in a house at Arapti Maning Leikai yesterday mid-night around 11.30 pm.
According to an official report, the fire which was suspected to have broke out from electric short circuit caused complete damages to a house belonging to one Yumkhaibam Lata Devi, 37, daughter of Y Kulla of Arapti Maning Leikai.
A poultry unit affixed to the house was also completely destroyed by the fire last night, however there were no report of human casualty.

IMPHAL April 22: The Artist Society Manipur has declared two awards for the third annual art exhibition. The awards are Art Society Manipur Award 2011 and (L) Aribam Jandhabi Devi memorial art award. The Award carries a citation, a shawl and cash amount of Rs 5000 each.
The state arts exhibition will be inaugurated by RK Nimai Singh, Commisioner, art and culture as the chief guest on April 28. The awards will be presented on the day.
This year’s Art Society Manipur annual art award 2011 will be awarded to Robin Khaba for his sculpture in wood titled ‘Red in Centre’ and the award for Aribam Jandhabi Devi memorial award (every two alternate years) will be given to Shijagurumayum Imobi sharma for his oil colour and acrylic painting titled ‘A pilgrim’.
The exhibition will be opned to public for five days from 11 am till 5in the evening at Manipur State Art Gallery, Konung Lampak, the release added.
