Education – The way I see it

Teaching is an ever evolving process. Traditional system of education has become old school. Nowadays teaching has become a creative and interactive vocation with many technical aides contributing to the process. As per my opinion, education is “Preparing a learner for a better tomorrow”. Even though, I, being a novice in the podium of education put forward my humble views in the process of education viz-a-viz the teaching-learning process.

Indian democracy on the verge?

Samarjit Kambam Parliamentary democracy in India is hailed as one of the largest democracy in the world. This may deem theoretically sound, yet functionally, this system is permeated with many ills that are eating into the very vital foundations of its being. Euthanasia – An anathema or a blessing in disguise?

“Death may be the greatest of all human blessings” – Socrates
The Supreme Court’s opening up of the Euthanasia debate asking for opinion from states and union territories alongwith the Times of India launching an online campaign in line, a year back, with the apex court’s decision to throw the issue open for debate can be considered a bold initiative. Now that the apex court wants government and legislature to examine the issue, it is expected that the matter be pursued with more vigour and thrust till it comes to a tangible result.

Every day is a New Year’s day

No two days are ever alike. Generally, a ‘day’ is considered as the period from sunrise to sunset, but universally 24 hours maketh a day. A day may be viewed from different perspectives i.e from the individual point of view, geographical, natural and from various other angles. Viewing from the personal level, a person may wake up with a headache, toothache or back pain which he had not encountered the previous day. A person who was alive and kicking may die the next day due to accident or other incident beyond his control as nobody can break the armour of fate.

2016 : A year that isn’t a year

Samarjit Kambam
Only two days are left for the year 2016 to come to an end, counting today. The year of 2016 heralded with a promising start but the ending is comparable to a nightmare. More like watching a movie that has a happy beginning with a tragic ending, only that it is happening in real life. In fact, the promising beginning is having in store a compromising end. Trust deficit and widening of rifts among ethnic groups, rearing up of the ugly head of communalism with intensified degree, things going on communal lines viz-a-viz. Unemployment reaching an all-time high. Drug trafficking climbing up the charts, rapes and molestation remaining a regular affair, pathetic governance, the UNC’s unending economic blockade taking the common people for a ride leaving the state in a state of doldrums with the central government’s demonetization adding to the woes manifold.

Ringing the bell of apprehension

In Manipur, things have gone too far, almost upto the point where everything spiral out of control, bringing out to the fore the fear from the psyche of the common people about an impending civil war scenario. Its deep, real deep. And its on the verge.

Manipur is like a mini-world with umpteen ethnic groups of different dialects castes, creeds and diverse religions. It, therefore, is a sensitive State where issues crop up every now and then from amongst the multifarious ethnic groups. Being a pluralistic state, it is also a pain in the neck of the state government to tackle new issues cropping up everyday. Other than running the administrative machinery, it is also one paramount task of the state government to look into the issues of different communities and indigenous groups of Manipur so that no flare-up of communalism and hatred amongst the assorted indigenous groups do not take place. The various civil societies operating in Manipur are duty bound to strive for peace among the different communities and diverse ethnic groups of the state.

Power of submission

Submission is one of the most misunderstood words in English. It is often perceived as opposite of domination. Submission for most of the people simply means surrender to somebody’s authority, where one looses even one’s identity. Let me explain with an example. When we listen to a concert, if we are involved with ourselves more than listening, will we be able to enjoy the music?

Driverless cars – The new kids on the block

Imagine checking your e-mails or reading a novel of your favourite writer or virtual gaming all the way as you lounge, leg extended to your total comfort in front of the steering wheel with your car cruising smoothly below the speed limit on the highway without you bothering a damn about what’s happening in front of you. If you are a lactating mother and your hubby’s away for a business trip with the baby sitter not turning up for the day but you still have to go to your mother’s or to one of your best friend’s residence wouldn’t you feel completely at ease as your car steers all by itself while you breastfeed your little angel till you reach your destination. Imagine, you are more than 70, a diabetic senior citizen, feeble, fingers trembling, having osteo-arthritis, ignored by your kids but still have to go the extra miles, wouldn’t it be a boon for you if your car drives by itself till you reach your destination with you snoozing all along the way.

India’s poor show at Olympics – China has the answer

While the Indian media is beating behind the bush or deliberately remaining numb, the Chinese state media had already listed out the reasons it believes are behind the poor show of India in every Olympics and most particularly the recently concluded one at Rio. These are: lack of infrastructure, poor health, poverty, girls not being allowed to participate in sports, boys being coaxed into becoming doctors and engineers, the popularity of cricket over other sports, India’s fading hockey glory and lack of information about the Olympics in rural areas.
