Imphal, Nov 12 : The Kuki State Demand Committee has called indefinite blockade in six roads leading to Imphal from Nov 15 onwards to demand separate state for Kuki carved out of Manipur. S George Guite, Secretary of the Committee said the blockade is part of a mass movement beginning 5 PM of November 15.
All national and state highways passing through Kuki-inhabited areas will be blocked and it will continue until the government of India gives a written assurance, that political dialogue between the Government of India and the Kuki people represented by the KSDC and Kuki Militant organizations presently under SoO (suspension of operation ) agreement with the Government of India will begin on a predetermined date to deliberate on Kuki political demand for a separate statehood.
It will also launch ‘Quit Kuki Lands’ movement against India if timely heed is not paid it was stated. Chairman of the Committee Hejang Haokip and Gen Secy , H Benjamin Mate also submitted a memorandum to Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh today regarding the matter. It was informed that from 1992 to 1997 the NSCN(IM) allegedly killed over 900 Kuki and uprooted 350 villages displacing over 50,000 people. It was stated that the Kuki felt insulted as the government started holding talks with NSCN(IM) which is responsible for the killings and various crimes.
The boundaries of Manipur were not drawn on ethnic ground and it negated the claim of the NSCN(IM) that five of the six hill districts in Manipur are dominated by Naga.
It also said the majority Meitei community has throttled the developments of the Kuki. It also asserted that Kuki had its own political entity.
