IMPHAL, Dec 27 MNS NNN: Bandh supporters of UNC burnt down two trucks carrying rice near office of district Council, Senapati this early morning around 12.30 a.m.
The trucks left Dimapur for Manipur when the bandh supporters stopped the trucks and burnt down by pouring petrol.
One truck was badly damaged while the other was partly damaged as Senapati Police, 109th battalion, fire service rushed the area and control the fire.
CD cassettes of Manipur film, tyres were burnt down in Naga dominated areas.
At Chandel, Senapati the bandh was total. All shops, business establishment were closed down.
Meanwhile the bandh called from last midnight to six p.m. today to protest against the Chandel incident concluded peacefully however all normal lives were paralyzed due to the bandh. Vehicles including auto rickshaws were off the road. Khwairamband Keithel wore a deserted look.Two rice loaded trucks of FCI were torched by bandh supporters in front of the office of Senapati District Council just after midnight Thursday. The incident occurred during the 72-hour bandh imposed by United Naga Council ( UNC ) in Naga dominated areas in Manipur.
Meanwhile, another 18-hour Manipur general strike jointly enforced by the Film Forum Manipur (FFM), Manipur State Shumang Leela Council (MSSLC) and social organizations ended peacefully at 6 pm.
During the course of the bandh imposed by the United Naga Council demanding “Alternative Arrangement” for the Nagas outside the Government of Manipur, volunteers of the council set on fire to two rice loaded trucks near the office of Senapati District Council, Senapati district around 12:15 am, police sources said.
The trucks belonging to FCI were transporting rice from Dimapur and they were on their way towards Imphal when the incident happened. The vehicles were completely charred in the fire.
A case has been registered at the Senapati Police Station regarding the incident, a police source said.
The bandh call given by UNC affected normal life in the hill districts of the state. At Chandel bazaar, bandh supporters burned CD cassettes of Manipuri digital films and songs. They also blocked roads burning tyres and piling up of boulders.
In the four hill districts, Government establishments, educational institutions both private and Government were closed due to the strike. Business activities were also paralyzed due to the bandh. Inter-state passenger bus service and movement of other vehicles on the two National Highways leading to the state were stopped due to the strike.
However, in the valley districts, the 18-hour Manipur bandh jointly imposed by FFM, MSSLC and social organizations evoked a near total response but it ended without any untoward incident.
Roads in Imphal wore a deserted look during the bandh. The strike was imposed from last midnight till 6 pm. However, the state Government clamped curfew in all the valley districts of Manipur from 6 am to 6 pm to counter the strike.
The strike totally affected normal life. Business establishments, educational institutions and Government offices and private establishments were closed due to the bandh. All kinds of vehicles were also off the road.
The 18-hour bandh marked the end of the indefinite Manipur bandh called by FFM and MSSLC in collaboration with various NGOs in the state in protest against the Chandel incident wherein film artiste Kh Momoko was allegedly molested and assaulted by Livingstone, a self-styled Lt Col of NSCN-IM at a musical event.
The indefinite bandh, started from December 21 midnight.

IMPHAL, Dec 27 MNS NNN: Enquiry into the killing of TV journalist Th Dwijamani has started on Thursday with a three-member High Power Committee constituted by Manipur Government conducting a spot inquiry at Thangmeiband Sinam Leikai in Imphal West where the scribe died in the police firing incident.
Thursday’s investigation was carried out by the High Power Committee consisting of Dr J Suresh Babu, Principal Secretary, Home, LM Khoute, Additional Director General of Police and A Mobi, president, All Manipur Working Journalists’ Union.
The team examined the spot where the Prime Time TV correspondent who was also the stringer of DDK, Guwahati died after the Manipur police personnel opened fire to the agitators. The commission also examined the charred vehicle and other materials lying at the spot.
Dwijamani was killed in the police firing on December 23 during the indefinite general strike imposed by Film Forum Manipur and Manipur State Shumang Leela Council in collaboration with various social organizations in Manipur protesting against the Chandel incident wherein film artiste Kh Momoko was assaulted by a self-styled Lt Col of NSCN-IM at a musical event on December 18.
The journalist was covering the bandh when the fatal incident took place.
Earlier in the day, the High Power Committee held two consecutive sittings at the office of the Principal Secretary, Manipur Secretariat.
During the sittings, three police personnel, nine VDF personnel and another journalist gave their testimonies in connection with the killing of Dwijamani, official sources said. The committee will submit its report to the state Government within a week, the sources added.
The High Power Committee was formed by the state Government after it signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the AMWJU on December 23 evening.
