IMPHAL, May 6: Anganwadi workers and helpers under the Social welfare department of Manipur government staged a protest demanding payment of due honorarium for 11 months.

The protest which began at around 11 a.m. was staged under the aegis of All Manipur Anganwadi workers and helpers union near 2nd MR gate, Imphal. Participants of the sit-in-protest also took out a short rally participated by around 500 Anganwadi workers and helpers calling for the payment of honorarium dues for 11 months, reinstatement of Anganwadi workers and helpers who were removed from their service as they were 60 years old and increase in retirement age to 65 years, provision of packets of khechri for children.

Representatives of the Union met with officials of the Social Welfare Department after the protest was staged till 1 p.m. At the meeting, the officials of the Department told the protestors the Director is out of station along with the concerned Minister AK Mirabai Devi and set to return on May 12. The officials assured the protestors that they will inform the said concerned authority on their return of the demands raised by the Union and urge them to fulfill the demands.
