IMPHAL, January 17: The Joint Action Committee formed in connection with the alleged mob killing of Md Firoj alias Amu has announced a 24-hour-bandh along the Thoubal stretch of the National Highway 2 from 6am of January 18 to 6am of January 19.
The JAC has demanded the case regarding the alleged killing of Md Firoj alias Amu, 28 S/o Late Noordin from Lilong Mayai Leikai to be handed over to an independent investigation agency like the CBI, arrest of the culprits at the earliest, ex-gratia of Rs 10 lakhs to the family and a suitable government job to a family member and to bring out the truth in the incident within three days.
Speaking to media persons at the Manipur Press Club today, JAC convenor Kh Zakir Hussain said religious activities and emergency services will be exempted from the purview of the bandh.
Muslim Council Manipur, MCM secretary Haji Arafat Ali said the council also supports the bandh.
Amu was an innocent labourer who was staying at the Telipati area he said and further alleged that Amu was killed in a suspicious manner at Khangabok.
Amu has left behind his wife and four children.
The JAC along with the MCM had also submitted a memorandum with five demands to the State deputy Chief Minister who is also the Home minister, director general of police and the SP Thoubal.
Setting three days for the authorities to find the truth and produce it before the public, Ali said the dead body will not be claimed until the demand is met.
Meanwhile, a sit in protest was also staged at Telipati today demanding arrest of the culprits involved.
