IMPHAL, April 11: The construction site at Lamlongei to settle displaced Lei-Ingkhol people is a land of Lamlongei, and the villagers have claimed they have proof of ownership of the land. They are also therefore resisting the resettlement of Lei Ingkhol people, said Lei-Ingkhol Eviction Affected Rehabilitation and Development Committee, advisor Nigthoujam Hitombi today in a press meet at Manipur Press Club this afternoon.
She further said since Lei-Ingkhol people are also Manipuri what is the harm their settling on this land would cause anybody, including the Lamlongei peoples.
She also asked that what the motivation of the Lamlongei villagers against the rehabilitation of Lei-Ingkhol displaced people. Are they waiting for government compensation of land they claim as theirs, she further asked, urging the government to settle the issue amicably.
If the objection is about damage to eco system, this can be addressed and resolved together, she said.
