HEIROK, April 26: Observing that local youth clubs should always distance themselves from politics, Education minister M Okendro exhorted the clubs to reach out to the people about the various development programes taken up by the government in their respective jurisdictions.
He said local clubs should strive for the welfare of the people without paying heed to influence from any section.
The minister was attending Yaoshang Sports Prize Distribution 2015 of the Divine Nongpok Ningthou Youth Club, Heirok Part II Devi Mandop Leikai at the premises of the club at Heirok, Thoubal district today.
Speaking as chief guest, Okendro asserted that local clubs should shoulder the responsibility of organizing various programmes related to boosting human resources apart from guiding youths on the right path.
If clubs render their duties of an ideal club then development and prosperity will come in their respective areas. However, they should refrain from taking laws into their own hands in the name of performing duties as unwarranted incident may arises thereof, he said.
He further said that construction work for `Ningsing Khul`™, a model village set up at Heirok is in full swing while adding that a target has been set to inaugurate the model village by December 7 of this year.
Around 300 people with four persons aged above 40 years each from the BPL families of the total 75 Wards under Heirok Constituency will be accommodated in the model village. The government is also discussing to provide suitable vocational jobs to them in order to sustain their livelihood, said Okendro who is the local MLA.
Announcing that the Wangpokpi Bridge constructed at Heirok Kabo Leikai will be constructed on December 7, the Minister maintained that the difficulties faced by the people regarding travelling from Heirok Part II to Part III will be solved with the inauguration of the bridge.
He also said that each of the 21 clubs of Heirok had been handed over with a development programme as a trial basis to bring development in their respective areas while adding that the government is closely monitoring the works to maintain its quality control.
In collaboration with Ibotombi Memorial Trust, meritorious students of the constituency, who were selected for pursuing MBBS course, have been provided a financial assistance of Rs 50, 000 each, Okendro said.
Editor of Naharolgi Thoudang, Khoirom Loyalakpa who was present at the occasion as guest of honour stated that the role of local clubs in bringing about positive changes in the society is of paramount importance.
He said that clubs should perform independently for betterment of the people without any affiliation to any political forum.
Saying that clubs are also shouldering responsibility of producing talented sportspersons from their respective areas by organizing sports events from to time, he expressed that the concerned authority of the areas should extend assistance to the clubs in this regard.
Today`™s function was also attended by Pradhan of Heirok Part II Gram Panchayat as president and principal of Heirok Higher Secondary School, Rajmohan as guest of honour.
