“Ningol Chakouba is an important fraternity marker”

Works minister Thongam Biswajit Singh said that only peace can bring development to a society, and the important event of Ningol Chakouba can be an important marker in promoting peace in the state.

He was speaking at the 24th Eikhoigi Iche-Ichalsingbu Ningshingba Numit “Ningol Chak-Kouba” at the Iboyaima Sumang Leela Shanglen, Palace Compound yesterday.

The function was organised jointly by four organisations namely All Manipur Ethnical Socio-Cultural Organisation (AMESCO), Naath Kanba Lup, Manipur State Shumang Leela Council and All Manipur Arts and Culture Students’ Union.

Every ethnicity needs to synchronise their individual concerns to work toward a peaceful society, he said. He said Andaman and Nicobar Islands is exemplary in this regard and they have shown how peace and development can result even amidst very diverse cultures.

“Manipur is also referred to as Ima Leibak and the reason it is referred thus is because of our Imas,” he noted. The Imas of Manipur are significant in our state and will always be respected, he added.

Consumer Affairs, Food & Public Distribution Minister Karam Shyam also attended the function.

A grand feast was also held as part of the function.

Representatives from different tribes and communities like Meitei Pangal, Zeliangrongs, Tangkhul, Maring, Thangal and others took part in the Ningol Chakouba celebration.
