IMPHAL, July 18: Applications in the prescribed forms obtainable from the concerned District Industries Centre (DIC) of each district and Handicrafts Section of Directorate of Commerce & Industries, Lamphelpat are invited from intending ex-trainees of Handicrafts who have undergone training for a period of not less than 5 months from the Government Training Centres/Institutes for availing of financial assistance under the State Government`s scheme for “Assistance to Individual Artisans” for the year, 2013-2014, according to a notification of the Directorate of Commerce & Industry.

The notification further said that the application dully completed alongwith the relevant documents should be submitted to the concerned DIC or Director, Com & Ind, Lamphelpat, Manipur adding the last date of submission of the applications is August16, 2013 and the applications submitted after 1 6th August, 2013 shall not be entertained, it said.

General Managers (DICs) should forward the applications submitted by the applicants on or before August 20, 2013 further adding that application form can also be downloaded from the Departmental website www.dcimanipur.gov.in, it said.

IMPHAL, July 18: The Indo-Japan Friendship Association, Manipur has today said in a press release that a Children Drawing Competition will be organised on August 4, 2013 in commemoration of Hiroshima Day 2013 while adding that the ten best paintings will be sent to Hiroshima Japan for the 28th International Children`s Peace Drawing Competition 2013.

Last year two children viz. one Annei Moirangthem of Maria Montessori, School, and Oinam Poireiton of Kendriya Vidyalaya, Lamphelpat were selected for awards and the same will be distributed on August 6 the Hiroshima Day Function. Participants should be born between April 2, 1998 to April 1, 2007. There will be three Prizes of Rs. 5000/-, Rs. 3000/- and Rs. 2000/-. Students may collect the application form from the office of the Japan Information Centre at Thangmeiband Athletic Union (THAU) on payment of Rs. 20/-. Completed/Fulfilled form should be submitted along with a fee of Rs. 300/- to on or before July 3, 2013, it said.

IMPHAL, July 18: The Manipur MBBS/BDS 2013 Entrance Examination Parent/Guardians Association has today said in a press release that the case filing to Supreme Court against the notification of Medical Council of India (MCI) to conduct MBBS/BDS entrance under NEET filed by 115 petitioners was today given a ruling by the apex court. The Supreme Court observed in the ruling that the MCI sponsored exam under one nation one exam is against the spirit of Indian Constitution, it said.

The press release further said that today’s three members’ bench ruling maintained that MCI notification had violated article 19, 25, 26, 29 and 30 of Indian Constituency and it continued that the ruling does not cover those colleges and institutions whose admission processes have already finished, it said.

The parents /guardians are urging to the Govt of Manipur to act in accordance with ruling of the Supreme Court in the interest of the disheartened MBBS/BDS aspirants, it further said.

LAMKA, July 17: The two extortionists who were arrested by a team of Churachandpur police yesterday while they were reportedly in the process of extorting a sum of Rs 70,000 from the DRDA office located next to DC CCpur, turn out to be juveniles and have now been sent to a juvenile home today, said an official source.

The two boys were acting on their own though they claimed to be under compulsion from some armed groups, the source added.

IMPHAL, July 18: The Senepati District Drivers Welfare Union (SDDWU) and The Surface Transport Hill Area Driver Welfare Union (STHADWU) has condemned in the strongest terms the alleged murder  of Ashikho Kreni, an active member of the union on July 16 at Kigwema, Nagaland, informed a joint press release.

The SDDWU & STHADWU further appealed to the concerned authority and department to expedite the process of booking the perpetrators so as to impede such act in future for the security and safety of drivers along the highway, failing which the SDDWU& STHADWU will be constrained to take its own course of action, it said.

IMPHAL, July 18: A total of 400 litres of contraband local liquor was destroyed today by personnel of Nambol Police in the presence of the Nambol Excise department officials and the meira paibis of Nambol area at Nambol Bazar under Bishnupur District Today at around 4pm.

Addressing media persons at the spot, Officer in Charge of Nambol Police L Premchand said that under instruction from the Superintendent of Police, Bishnupur to check the vendors in Nambol and its surrounding area to see if any of the vendors were selling country made liquor.

Following the instruction from the SP, police had been conducting checking at several areas including Nambol Thiyam, Mekola, Leimapokpam, Nambol Kha Jiri, Lairenjam, Irengbam and Nambol Phoijing.

He further said that the work has been taken up by the police to control and prevent a type of crime in the area as many report of crime were reported to be committed after consuming the liquor in the state.

IMPHAL, July 18: Following instruction of the Bishnupur SP to check the growing numbers of road accidents and loss of vehicles in Nambol and its surrounding areas, Nambol police has been carrying out special drives in the area and have collected fines amounting to Rs 45600 from 60 vehicles for driving without registration numbers, licence and proper documents of the vehicles.

Speaking to media persons at the officer chamber of the Nambol Police station L Premchand Officer In Charge Nambol Police said that the drive to the check vehicles lifting and road mishaps in the area have been conducted since the past six days.

He said till today around 60 vehicles’ have been challaned and collected a total sum of Rs 45,600 under the Motor vehicles Act 192.

He said the collected fines and challan will be handed over to the District Transport office.

He appealed to the people to get their vehicles registered and also not to drive their vehicles  without registration.

LAMKA, July 18: A retired Wing Commander in the Indian Air Force and and an Ex-member of Manipur Public Service Commission, Govt.of Manipur, Wg.Cdr. Lamkhohen Misao, fondly called “Koko” meaning elder brother in Burmese language has passed away yesterday evening.

Wg.Commander Lamkhohen Misao is survived by his wife Neijalam Misao, 3 daughters, one son, one grand-son and a son-in-law.

Late. Retd.Wg.Cdr. Lamkhohen Misao was the first Indian Air Force Officer among the Kuki community.

He completed his graduation in History Honours in 1966 from DM College, Imphal. In the same year, he went to become the first Indian Air Force Officer amongst the Kukis. After his retirement, he was appointed as a member of Manipur Public Service Commission by the Government of Manipur for a term of three(3) years.

He was also the founding member and first General Secretary of Kuki Students` Organization, Manipur. Retd.Wg.Cdr. Lamkhohen Misao`s burial ceremony was conducted today at his home town Kangpokpi where the local MLA Nemcha Kipgen, Ex-MLA Thangminlen Kipgen, Haokholal Hangshing, Chairman ADC Sadar Hills, Kuki Inpi New Delhi and many other dignitaries and representatives of civil organizations also attended.
