IMPHAL, May 30: The recent series of incidents of assaults, molestation as well as racial discrimination against the people from the north-eastern states in the major cities where a good numbers of students and working professional are populated has largely affected to the students communities said Anthony Moirangthem, president, Manipur Students’ Association of Pune (MSAP) speaking to the media the Manipur Press Club, today. Anthony said that they have submitted a memorandum on May 19 to the Governor of Manipur, Chief Minister, Deputy Chief Minister and Education minister in this regard. He further said that MSAP strongly appealed to the authorities concerned of the Manipur state Government and Central Government to take immediate steps in the major cities to end the racial discrimination and take serious action against racial labeling. He opined that the history and unique culture of the northeast should be included at the school level education curriculum of other states and central boards. He further maintained that due to the law and order situation in the state there has been mass exodus of the students to other states. In this regard there is need for hostels, particularly for working women professionals with proper security, he added.

IMPHAL, July 24: The Street Vendors’ licence holders today around 11 am dispersed vendors without licence for selling their wares at Khwairamband according to Potsangbam Shyamashakhi Devi, president of Khwairamband Keithel Lambi-Mataida Potpham Phambi Lup during a press conference at Manipur Press Club today.

The lup has further demanded the Imphal Municipal Council to provide details of the licence card holders and number of licence holders at the earliest.

She further said that the attitude of licence holders towards the non-license holders is disgraceful and demeaning, even though they are all trying to earn some money and the only difference is that they hold licence, she added.

She further lamented the action of state government remaining as spectator to the incident.

The government should take the issue seriously and should provide proper place for the street vendors on the first floor of the two buildings of Ima Market, she said.

She express that the place provided by the government at Sana Keithel in an improper area which is not a suitable place to sell wares and earn for livelihood.

IMPHAL, April 4: Popular artist Tapta is set for a North East India Musical Tour to spread love peace and togetherness. This was announced by by Nelson Elangbam, Managing Director of the North East Brother Entertainment Pvt Limited  during a press meet at the Manipur Press Club today.

The tour with the theme of “Reaching the Brotherhood once lost” will start on April 8, 2013 at 10 am from Kangla and will be flagged off by M Prithiviraj, Parliamentary Secretary, Tourism and YAS.

The 20 member team will travel to several destinations in the North East and send out a message of love, peace and togetherness.

The team will be leaving Manipur on April 8 and Tapta North East tour will start from Wapokpi on April 10th; Karaikandi on April 11th; Aizawl on April 13th; Shillong April 14th and will conclude on April 19th at BOAT in Imphal.

Manipur, IMPHAL, February 3: A one day seminar on “Shak-henbi Changdamnabagi Ihou/Ichel da Khunai sigi Meetyeng” was held today at Manipur Press Club jointly organized by Apunba Manipur Kanba Lup (AMKIL); Ching-Tam United Women`s Association (CHITUWA); Kangleipak Lamjing Apunba Meiralup (KANGLAMEI);  Poirei Leimarol Meira Paibi Apunba Manipur (PLMPAM) and Women Association for Civic Action Kangleipak (WACAK). The theme loosely translated would mean `Societal response to the culture of beauty contests`.

Dr Dhanabir Laishram, said that it is not right to completely ban beauty contests but instead it should be organized by assigning a dress code.

Validating this call, Dr Ch Shilaramani, Associate Professor, DM College of Arts said that beauty contest should be organized in the state after a dress code is decided by conducting a conference of hill and valley peoples.

Dr N Pramodini, Director Women Study Centre, MU pointed out that girls taking part in various beauty contests are used as commodities.

Film Maker Ningthouja Lancha meanwhile said that beauty contests are being organized by a particular company for the marketing purpose of its products like garments, cosmetic etc. and also in some countries it is organized for such like purposes of promoting something, but that it serves no purpose whatsoever in Manipur.
