Imphal, Jan 20: BJP President Nitin Gadkari released the Party’s Vision Document for Manipur at a public meeting in Imphal here this evening. ‘Manipur Marching Ahead’ a 45 page document will be widely circulated before the voting day.
State BJP President Shantikumar said that the BJP aspires for an ideal Manipur society that is free from violence, terror, intimidation, threat and coercion as well as from poverty, unemployment, literacy, diseases and ignorance. It further mentions that the “BJP is committed to bring the people out of the present state of hopelessness and despair, giving them a society that they deserve.”
Among other things, this Vision Document has presented a number of innovative ideas about infrastructure development. It talks about developing the Imphal air-port as a modern International air-port as well as enhancing connectivity between valley and hill areas by building a tunneled roadway from the proposed Imphal Railway station to Lamding. Exploring the possibility of using non-conventional energy sources for power generation in a big way, setting up mini-Special Economic Zones in tribal areas, creating an independent Loktak Development Authority, setting up food processing centres at Jiribam, Loktak, Moirang and Kakching and promoting manufacturing of non-timber forest products are some of the new ideas that have found a place in this vision document. On the front of tourism, it has mentioned setting up of Tourists Service Centres and introducing Home Stay on Bed and Breakfast basis. It has also mentioned using geo-satellite mapping technology for preventing degradation of catchment areas.
Referring to the resolve of making Imphal as the sports capital of India, it also mentions the setting up of a Sports University as well as Govindji University of Arts and Culture at Moirang, besides exploring the possibilities of starting centres of the Delhi based National School of Drama (NSD) and Pune based Film and Television Institute of India (FTII).
