IMPHAL, January 20: SMS of KVK Chandel, Th Sonamani Singh has been appointed as the micro observer of Chandel constituency for the ensuing assembly elections while inspector of customs preventive force, Moreh, Leichungnung and superintendent of land customs, Moreh, LL Mate were appointed to the same post for Tengnoupal constituency. The returning officer of Chandel district, Th Chittaranjan stated that they will be functioning under the central observers.

Jayanta was charged with distributing pamphlets threatening to block their names from selection as beneficiaries for various schemes and annulling their membership if they did not vote for the MSCP candidate.

IMPHAL, January 20: A joint team comprising of Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB), Imphal; 39 AR; Customs division Imphal; NAB Manipur; Churachandpur police and AMADA Manipur have destroyed 300 acres (approx) of illicit poppy cultivation in Thinghat and other adjoining areas to Myanmar in Churachandpur district said a press note.

The approximate cost value of the destroyed poppy cultivation in a three day operation would be worth Rs.3.6 crores in the illicit market said the release.

IMPHAL, January 20: A team of Imphal East Commandoes arrested two UNPC cadres namely, Johnah Barian Tak @ Lingdai @ Adam (34) s/o Late B.T. Lengjing of Noney Oklong Village and Abija Barain @ T.R. Barain (32) /o Khangchujin Barian of Ijeirong village from the eastern side of Lamlong bridge according to a police press release from the Superintendent of Police, Imphal East. It further mentioned that upon further verification, Johnah Barain (Sl. No. 1) disclosed that he joined UNPC in 2008 through a person identified as S/S Chirman Pearson Tangkhul and that he is now holding the rank of General Secretary of UNPC while Abija Barain disclosed that he joined the outfit through Johnah Barian Take. They further disclosed that they were involved in extorting money from the general public, government official besides transportation of arms and ammunition and recruiting young boys to the outfit.
