Twenty two Bangladeshi national who were arrested by police from Hatta on August 30 around 4.30 p.m. were produced before the court of chief Judicial Magistrate, Imphal east W. Tonen Meitei today and an order of the court sent them to central jail, Sajiwa.
The Bangladeshi nationals who are labour, thela puller and loha business have to undergo both RI and simple imprisonment of the minimum period of two years (out of which 20 days shall be RI and the rest shall be simple imprisonment) and with fine amounting to the minimum fine of Rs. 10,000 as provided under the Foreigners Act 1946 U/S 14-A for each of them and failing which to make payment, they shall undergo simple imprisonment of another six months in addition to the period of substantive sentence. It is made clear that the period of detention or undergone by the offenders during the tirial shall be set off against the terms of imprisonment imposed on them such connection.
