Imphal Mar 23 MNS/ UNA: Former judge of the Chhattisgarh High Court, Justice Abhay Manohar Sapre was Saturday sworn in a chief justice of the new Manipur High Court which would be opened on Monday (March 25).
Manipur Governor, Gurbachan Jagat administered him as chief justice of Manipur High Court at the simple ceremony held at the Dubar hall of the Imphal Raj Bhavan. Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh, his council of ministers, top civil and police officers of the state government took part in the swearing in ceremony held at 10.27 am.
The first chief justice of the Manipur High Court was accorded by high court registrar and officer-1 during the swearing in ceremony.
After the oath taking ceremony, the chief justice said that it was a good step to have a separate high court of its own. He further sought cooperation of the people hoping that delivering justice to the people of the state would be sped up with the setting up the new high court.
After the swearing in ceremony of the chief justice, it was followed by oath taking ceremony of former advocate general of Manipur, Justice Nameirakpam Koteshwor as judge at 1 pm. He was administered the oath of office by the new chief justice Justice Abhay Manohar Sapre.
Speaking to media person after the oath taking ceremony, justice Koteshwor expressed hope that under the guidance of the chief justice Abhay Manohar Sapre the people of state would fine a significant judiciary process and burden of pending cases in the high court would be lessen.
He further hoped that remaining three judges which the Union ministry of law and justice had cleared the desk would be appointed at the earliest.
With the chief justice assumed his office from today, Manipur has its own high court, a long cherished dream of people of Manipur having high court of its own.
The formal opening ceremony of the historic event of opening of Manipur High Court would take place on Monday (March 25). Union law and justice minister Ashwani Kumar and Chief Justice of India Altamas Kabir, would inaugurate the high court on this day.
