IMPHAL, July 18: A differently abled man from Phabokchao Awang Leikai under Mayang Imphal Police Station has accused the Officer-in- Charge of the Police Station of conniving with a man from his locality in harassing and intimidating him.

Th Ranjit, the victim, stated in a press conference called by State Platform of Disable People Organisations Manipur (SPDPO) at the Manipur Press Club today that he passed a channel adjacent to a pool on July 8 at around 10 am while Thokchom Sunil, son of Th Babudhon Singh, of his locality was also taking a bath inside the pool.

“After returning to my house, Sunil entered into the house and accused me of dropping some unknown substance into the pool which he insisted I must pick up from the pool,” Ranjit said.

An hour later on the same day, Sunil again came to my house and tried to beat me by wrongly accusing me of pouring some poisonous liquid into the pool, he added.

“At around 2.30 pm on July 9, when I went to meet the O.C of Mayang Imphal PS, he forcibly took my signature and directed me to confess. He also demanded a sum of Rs 35,000 as compensation,” Ranjit said while narrating his ordeal.

The victim said that he was threatened in the police station that he will be hung to death without any proper investigation by the OC.

The OC also threatened him that if he didn’t pay the compensation he would be kept in jail for the rest of his life and may be killed by hanging, added the victim.
