IMPHAL, July 27: Protesting the report of a New Delhi based magazine about the Al Qaida recruiting Muslim youth from the State, several Muslim organisations have sought clarification on the report.

The All Manipur Muslims Development Organisation, Pangal Students’ organisation and the All Manipur Muslim Welfare Association today jointly called a press meet at the Manipur Press Club on the issue.

Speaking to the media, advisors to AMMDO and All Manipur United Club Organisation, KT Rahman today strongly condemned the publisher of the Delhi based monthly magazine ‘First Word’ Sujit Chakraborty and sought clarification on the news report, terming it baseless and fabricated.

He said since the report was published, several organisations had surveyed and cross-checked the report and found it to be untrue.

The news has not only disturbed the peaceful atmosphere of the Muslim community in the State, especially in Lilong area, but it is also humiliating and unfortunate at the same time for the community, he asserted.

Although, the State Home minister had declared that there are no traces of the Al Qaeda in the State, the government should not remain silent on the issue, but take up actions against the publisher of the magazine, so that such baseless and unfounded reports are not repeated in the future, he said.

The government is meant to ensure peace and welfare of the public and the State and be committed to its responsibilities, he said before urging that the government need to assert that the report was published with a wrong propaganda.

AMMDO, PSO, AMMWA jointly appealed to the government to take up action in time.

The Muslim bodies have also decided to take legal action against Surjit Chakraborty, the bodies said.

He further appealed to the State government to implement the Inner Line Permit in the State at the earliest.
