JIRIBAM, July 20: The 16th N Pattama Devi Memorial Meng Kang tournament 2013 organised by the All Jiribam Sport Association (AJSA) has today concluded with a final match played between Yaipha Lamjing Club, Dibong Khunou and Yaow Club, Champanagar.

The Yaipha Lamjing Club won the final match at 19-11 while Yaow Club took the prize of runners up. The Yaol Club won the toss of the final match thereby selected the side of their choice and its opponent Yaipha Lamjing Club had kick started the game.

The Kang tournament was participated by six teams viz, Yaol Club Champanar, MNC Ningthembam, Yaipha Lamjing Club Dibong Khunou, Echel Club Dibong, KYC Kalinagar respectively.

The best Lamtha of the final match was got by Th Gunadhor Singh of Yaipha Lamjing Club with a score of twelve while Th Ranjan Singh of Yaipha Lamjing Club got best Chekphei with score of fifteen.

The function of the final match was presided by the president of AJSA while Addl SP of Jiribam O Menjor Sing MPS as Chief Guest. The tournament was donated by N Rajbehari Singh of Jiribam IB Leikai in memory of his mother.

While presenting Budget for the year 2013-14 in the Assembly on July 18, the Chief Minister, who is also Minister in-charge of Finance, acknowledged that the “press and media have come a long way in Nagaland, and they continue to play a constructive role. “I must specially compliment them for their comprehensive coverage of the proceedings of the Assembly sessions, thereby taking the business of this august House to our constituents,” he stated.

IMPHAL, July 19: JAC formed in connection with the alleged kidnapping and rape of a college girl has today said in a press release that the case of kidnapping of the girl, consequent raping  has come to an end after having disclosed the rapists by one Md Itocha alias Rafish of Changamdabi Mathak Sagollou in the night of July 14, 2013 at 9:00 pm.

The alleged culprits who were disclosed by Md Itocha are identified as one Md Taj Khan, one Md Aboy alias Sahid of Yairipok Singa along  with one Mirajan Bibi while adding that the said Md Itocha was handed over to DGP of Manipur through the MLA of Andro assembly constituency, it said.

The press release further urged the concerned authority for a speedy and prompt justice to the interest of the victim girl in particular and in view of soaring cases of rape in the state.

IMPHAL, July 19: An office memorandum signed by secretary State Transport Authority has notified and directed that no application for grant of fresh contract carriage permits for operation of Intermediate Public Transport (IPT) in the State of Manipur shall be considered and granted as provided under section 74 of the M.V. Act `1988 and grant of permits (contract carriage permits) is suspended temporarily till further notice in all the offices of Secretary, State Transport Authority (STA) & Regional Transport Authorities (RTAs), Manipur till the final publication of the Draft Manipur State Transport Policy and subsequent conduct of the following surveys/studies of major Corridors/Arterial Roads including important IVRs connecting Imphal city centre, with District /Sub Divisional Hqs/Places of Importance in the State of Manipur envisaged to be carried out by the Department of Transport, Government of Manipur with the support of District Traffic Control Police Authorities, Town Planning Department, Planning & D

IMPHAL, July 19: Locals of Nungoi Litan Makhong during a public meeting yesterday  formed a JAC in relation to the reported rape of a nine year old girl by a 20 year old neighbor on July 17.

The formation of the JAC was today announced today at the AMSU headquarters during a press meet.

Speaking to media persons, spokesperson N Sorojini appealed to the concerned police departments and forensics to conduct their investigation and examinations properly.

She further demanded that accused Leimapokpam Athemba, 20 son of L Amarjeet of Wabagai Hiyanglam should be interrogated and punished according to the law of the land.

IMPHAL, July 18: Applications in the prescribed forms obtainable from the concerned District Industries Centre (DIC) of each district and Handicrafts Section of Directorate of Commerce & Industries, Lamphelpat are invited from intending ex-trainees of Handicrafts who have undergone training for a period of not less than 5 months from the Government Training Centres/Institutes for availing of financial assistance under the State Government`s scheme for “Assistance to Individual Artisans” for the year, 2013-2014, according to a notification of the Directorate of Commerce & Industry.

The notification further said that the application dully completed alongwith the relevant documents should be submitted to the concerned DIC or Director, Com & Ind, Lamphelpat, Manipur adding the last date of submission of the applications is August16, 2013 and the applications submitted after 1 6th August, 2013 shall not be entertained, it said.

General Managers (DICs) should forward the applications submitted by the applicants on or before August 20, 2013 further adding that application form can also be downloaded from the Departmental website www.dcimanipur.gov.in, it said.

IMPHAL, July 18: The Manipur MBBS/BDS 2013 Entrance Examination Parent/Guardians Association has today said in a press release that the case filing to Supreme Court against the notification of Medical Council of India (MCI) to conduct MBBS/BDS entrance under NEET filed by 115 petitioners was today given a ruling by the apex court. The Supreme Court observed in the ruling that the MCI sponsored exam under one nation one exam is against the spirit of Indian Constitution, it said.

The press release further said that today’s three members’ bench ruling maintained that MCI notification had violated article 19, 25, 26, 29 and 30 of Indian Constituency and it continued that the ruling does not cover those colleges and institutions whose admission processes have already finished, it said.

The parents /guardians are urging to the Govt of Manipur to act in accordance with ruling of the Supreme Court in the interest of the disheartened MBBS/BDS aspirants, it further said.

LAMKA, July 17: The two extortionists who were arrested by a team of Churachandpur police yesterday while they were reportedly in the process of extorting a sum of Rs 70,000 from the DRDA office located next to DC CCpur, turn out to be juveniles and have now been sent to a juvenile home today, said an official source.

The two boys were acting on their own though they claimed to be under compulsion from some armed groups, the source added.

IMPHAL, July 18: The Senepati District Drivers Welfare Union (SDDWU) and The Surface Transport Hill Area Driver Welfare Union (STHADWU) has condemned in the strongest terms the alleged murder  of Ashikho Kreni, an active member of the union on July 16 at Kigwema, Nagaland, informed a joint press release.

The SDDWU & STHADWU further appealed to the concerned authority and department to expedite the process of booking the perpetrators so as to impede such act in future for the security and safety of drivers along the highway, failing which the SDDWU& STHADWU will be constrained to take its own course of action, it said.

IMPHAL, July 18: A total of 400 litres of contraband local liquor was destroyed today by personnel of Nambol Police in the presence of the Nambol Excise department officials and the meira paibis of Nambol area at Nambol Bazar under Bishnupur District Today at around 4pm.

Addressing media persons at the spot, Officer in Charge of Nambol Police L Premchand said that under instruction from the Superintendent of Police, Bishnupur to check the vendors in Nambol and its surrounding area to see if any of the vendors were selling country made liquor.

Following the instruction from the SP, police had been conducting checking at several areas including Nambol Thiyam, Mekola, Leimapokpam, Nambol Kha Jiri, Lairenjam, Irengbam and Nambol Phoijing.

He further said that the work has been taken up by the police to control and prevent a type of crime in the area as many report of crime were reported to be committed after consuming the liquor in the state.
