The Last Emperor – Loka, the great Andamanese king

Golat, that is the boy in the photo. As I write this I hope he has many daughters and sons and countless grandchildren of the same age as he appears in the photo. This is possible because this photo was taken 37 years ago.

Sorrow- Its simply yours!

The well -known journalist Shree Venkatram passed away last week. I recall when I’d first met her , almost three decades back , what had struck was her smile ….a warm smile spread out on her face . And now , when I’d last met her , just a day before she passed away, her face once again looked radiant with a serene smile spread on her face .

Whether someone has been a victim of political violence, intergroup conflict, torture, personal loss or abuse, the core experience is trauma. These events leave deep scars on our psyche, which continues to bleed for a lifetime, filling us with pain, hatred, mistrust and rage. Life seems to be fraught with darkness and one finds survival difficult. The victims of trauma often wonder why life has been so cruel to them and what they did to invite this misery. Usually, they believe that they are hapless sufferers and that their past will continue to haunt them. However, this apathy can change if one adopts a spiritual attitude. Rumi said that the wound is the place where the light enters you. This effectively means that if we can manage to be receptive to divine light despite being in a devastated state, the light will enter our being and resurrect us.
