CCpur district hospital unable to provide drinking water

LAMKA, March 27: Even when elections are round the corner, patients and their relatives and attendants at the Churachandpur District Hospital continue to suffer without proper provision of safe drinking

LAMKA, March 27: Even when elections are round the corner, patients and their relatives and attendants at the Churachandpur District Hospital continue to suffer without proper provision of safe drinking water and power.

An investigation into the incident had revealed that the infamous ISO certified CCpur District Hospital was indeed facing water supply shortage.

A woman from Thanlon A/C whose son is admitted at the hospital said the scarcity of water in the hospital has infact hit them hard.

People coming from far off places like themselves have to washed themselves and their clothes, which is very much a hard time considering the lack of proper supply of water, she lamented.

Several other patients agreed with her and echoed that since the water supposed to be provided at all wards was not coming, they had to go to the casualty department where there is a tank which is also almost running dry.

Meanwhile, water is not all that the hospital has failed to provide sufficiently.

Another patient party said that even though the solar panels are supposed to provide 24 hours, the hospital is getting only about 2 hours maximum.

The notice/information on display at the hospital wall however, says that the hospital is being provided power supply from three sources namely solar, electricity and generator.

Reliable sources revealed that the dedicated line promised by the state Health minister was ready but yet to function, as the wiring is yet to be completed, which can best be explained by the department concerned.

A hospital worker, on the condition of anonymity, said that there was a time they had to administer injection with the use of torch lights and candles which is not easy in case the patient is a child.

She further expressed that people are concerned about the roof of the children ward which was built in the early eighties collapsing.

In a silver lining for the hospital and patients, the hospital seems to be in a reliable condition on the oxygen front.

Interestingly the ultra sound in the district is supervised by a specialist from outside of the town.

A relative of the patient in the surgical ward complained that they had to wait for the doctor, who works in private clinics, to finish his unofficial assignments after which the doctors come to the hospital.

It was also found that the said doctor had taken leave, as of now, and many patients had to rush to Imphal.

Chakpikarong public demands road repair

CHAKPIKARONG, March 27: A mass rally in protest against the negligence of the government to repair Chandel to Chakpikarong Road via Sugnu was held today at Chakpikarong Sub-Divisional Headquarters.

The protest rally was organized by District Vigilance Committee, Chandel in collaboration with the Anal Naga Chiefs` Association (ANCA) Chakpikarong Sub-Division, Anal Lenruwl Tangpi Chakpikarong Branch and Chakpikarong Block Youth Wing.

The rally started from Chakpikarong Government High School where a large numbers of school students and villagers holding placards inscribed with the words “We want good road,” “No good road, no development” “We want equal development” etc. proceeded towards SDO Chakpikarong Office where a memorandum addressed to the Governor of Manipur was handed over through Chirom Somorendra, sub deputy collector (SDC), Chakpikarong.

While briefing media persons, Bd Betha, president of the District Vigilance Committee, Chandel said that the road stretch from Chandel to Chakpikarong via Sugnu has been neglected by the present state government and never repaired since 2004.

And in mid-2010, the responsibility for the construction and maintenance of the said road was handed over to the Border Road Task Force (BRTF) from State PWD.

However, the BRTF also has not taken up the work for construction and repairing of the said road till date, he said.

Therefore, he appealed to the Governor of the state and the central government for immediate intervention considering the suffering of the people of Chandel district in general and the people of Chakpikarong Sub-Division in particular.

Talking to the media, chairman of Anal ANCA RD Thumdang appealed for early construction of the road and went on to inform that out of 14/15 departments in Chakpikarong, only SDO/BDO office, police, CHC, forest and government High Schools are functioning and the rest had neither offices nor the officials found in the station.

Stating that irregular power supply had affected the student community, he stated and continued that completion of 33 KV power sub- station at Salluk village will help solve the problem, the chairman appealed the authority concerned to expedite the work.

Wages for full 100 days of MG-NRGES for 20-13 was also demanded.

Former chairman of ANCA Chakpikarong sub-division HL Thungam while addressing the media strongly criticized the Congress government and said that this government must not be voted to power again. A strong political Party like BJP should be voted, he said.

President of Anal Lenruwl Tangpi Chakpikarong Branch Hl Jeremiah also said the present government has done nothing to develop Chakpikarong. The public leaders have been repeatedly requested the government to address the pathetic condition of the only Community Health Centre of Chakpikarong, grievances of the teachers and students of Chakpikarong Karong govt high school but the govt has not heard the voice of the people.

KANGPOKPI, March 27: Alleging sticky development of Imphal Tamenglong Road commonly known as IT Road or Twilang Road, the Kuki Students` Organization Sadar Hills today urged the state government and other concerned authorities to complete the construction work before the monsoon season.

The KSO-SH today led an inspection team of the said road.

Speaking on the sideline, Thangminlen Kipgen, president KSO Sadar Hills said that the Imphal to Tamenglong road has been constructed under the North East Council but unfortunately the construction work could not progress as expected.

According to a well-placed source, the concerned department has been deducting six per cent of the funds which account for the sticky development of the work, he alleged.

The deduction of high percentage by the concerned department has drastically affected the contractor’s strategies in executing the work satisfactorily and on time, added the student body leader.

He urged the government as well as the concerned authority to consider the untold miseries faced by the people settled along the road during monsoon season and to initiate appreciable measures so as to render the concerned contractors to complete the construction work before the monsoon season arrive.

The student body also appeal to the concerned contractors to maintain quality in the construction work since the road will not be renovate even after a decade or so.

In the meantime the KSO Sadar Hills urged every individual including various UGs and particularly the general public of IT Road to render their fullest cooperation towards the contractors and workers involved in the construction work and restraint themselves from disturbing the persons involved in work.
