IMPHAL, June 17: A sit-in-protest was staged with Thoubal District Council CPI organising the protest under campaign committee Manipur state council CPI at Khangabok New Market against the state government.

Various forms agitations to be taken up by CPI were declared during the sit in protest.

Kh Surchand, convenor of the campaign committee, ex-Miniter N Mangi, chairman, ex-Minister M Nara Singh, ex-Minster Kh Tomba Singh, Sharat Singh, secretary of Thoubal District Council, Kh Mera Tombi Devi, President of All Manipur Wangjing Tentha Areas Committe, Y. Jiban Sing spoke during the sit-in-protest.

IMPHAL, June 17: A press release from Students’ Union of Kangleipak (SUK) said that one month free spoken English coaching class for classes VI – X was initiated under the aegis of Students’ Union of Kangleipak (SUK), Laphupat Tera, Branch at the Malem Maheikol English school, Laphupat Tera on June 17.

The coaching class aims to cultivate a students’ better society of distinction and tremendous spirit. 150 students from 10 schools attended the coaching class, it said.

IMPHAL, June 16: The proscribed Maoist Communist Party, Manipur has in a press statement signed by its publicity and propaganda secretary Nonglen Meitei urged the concerned Imphal Urban Cooperative Bank (IUCB) officials to admit their wrong doings and try not to repeat it again instead of trying to cover it up.

The recent clarification made by the bank officials in regard with the issue of the recruitment of 17 staffs of the bank where eight is allegedly near relatives of eight officials of the bank, is an attempt to fool the people when it is crystal clear that there are irregularities in the recruitment process, the statement maintained.

While pointing out various irregularities in the promotion, transfer and recruitment of staffs in the bank, the statement further said that if the officials concerned instead of admitting their wrong doings try to cover it up, MCP, Manipur will bring out more such irregularities of the past including an earlier issue of recruitment of 23 staffs of the bank.

IMPHAL, June 16: The members of Manipur Library Association (MALA) staged a sit in protest at Keisampat Lairembi community hall today demanding implementation of the Manipur Public Libraries Act 1988 organised by Manipur Library Association (MALA).

Speaking to media persons K Chaoba, founder secretary MALA said library is a place where we can acquire knowledge and it is very helpful to the students.

He alleged that the government of the state didn’t take any initiative for the welfare of library because it is a non-profitable sector.

He further said that the sit in protest is organised demanding appointment of librarians for colleges.

The library should be improved in the schools and the books should be up to date with the syllabus so that the students can refer to it and schools, colleges, higher secondary where there is no library must open one as soon as possible.

MALA’s demand also include establishment of Department of Public Library Service and to appoint a new director, to established library in each districts so that they people can get the library advantages, in every hill district library should established.

IMPHAL, June 16: The proscribed UNLF has in a press statement signed by its publicity officer M Shakhen said that the UNLF cadre Army no 2289 Laishram Raju alias Ereikanba (22), who according to PIB (DF) statement have surrendered to the Red Shield Division is a deserter who had secretly run away from his designated camp ‘242 Bn’ on December 31, 2011.

UNLF in its statement have also denied any connection with the above mentioned person after he ran away from the said camp or the arms recovered from him.

IMPHAL, June 16: The 18th June Observation Committee has said in a press release that it gratefully acknowledges the cleaning and beautification service in and around the vicinity of  Kekrupat where the valiant martyrs who laid down their lives in a bid to protect territorial integrity of Manipur were cremated being taken up by the public, clubs, organisations, associations, meira paibis, forums etc.

It has also expressed confidence that the general public of the state will take a great role in preserving the memorial complex at Kekrupat in the future.

However, the observation committee appealed to all concerned not to clean the area by mounting the memorials to martyrs where floral tributes are paid and not to do anything that may  give a wrong impression of the sacred place.

L Kanhai Meitei, secretary UDA has said for organizing counseling session, selection of a stream for the students of class X and XII is compulsory and added that a right choice will help them in winning laurels while mentioning the role of guardians/parents in the process of selecting a right stream. IMPHAL, June 16: A press release from Manipur Judo Association said that the second meeting of the nineteen-member Executive committee of the Manipur Judo Association was held at Hotel Imphal on June 15 so as to constitute an organising committee of the sub-junior national Judo championship, 2013, Imphal to be held from August 31 to September 4. Minister of Works, Kh Ratankumar, S. Indrakumar and A. Sachikumar are the President, Secretary and Treasurer of the Manipur Judo Association for the term 2013 – 17.
 
It continued that Kh Ratankumar and S. Indrakumar have been designated as Organising Chairman and Secretary of the organising committee while M. Prithviraj Singh, Parliamentary Secretary (sports), Vungzagin Valte, Parliamentary Secretary (Finance), K. Meghachandra, patron in-chief (Manipur Judo Association) will head the four sub- committees on Finance, Accommodation, Media and Transport.
 
Manipur Judo Association appealed to civil organisations of the state to support and not to create any sort of disturbances like general strike and bandhs on these days.

 IMPHAL, June 16: A press release issued by the Minuthong Hatta Social Welfare Union said that a Tata truck ran over two persons at the traffic crossing in front of Porompat Police station at 8:30 p.m. on June 8 and one victim was killed on the spot while the other victim is being hospitalised at Shija hospital. It appealed to the Imphal East Police to recover the truck involved in the incident failing which the club will launch stringent agitations along with students’ organisations and other clubs and organisations.
