IMPHAL, April 22:  The Sora Village Authority, other civil organisations and student bodies have lifted the bandh imposed in the area since April 21 against the alleged rape of a class VIII student girl from the mid-night of April 22.

The village authority has said that the bandh has been temporarily lifted considering the Khongjom Day celebration.

The release further said that the bandh will continue again after Khongjom Day i.e from April 24.

The body has further appealed to the concerned authority to punish the accused Md Rahaman alias Namba of Sangaipham Charapurda at the earliest.

The speaker said that the battle against the British in the year 1891 despite knowing it was a losing battle, shows the strength and bravery of our forefathers.

It only shows their love for their motherland and the sacrifices made by Paona Major, Chinglensana and other brave Martyrs at the battle of Anglo-Manipur at Khongjom should never be forgotten, he said.

Just like the brave martyrs, people of Manipur should help in building up a developed and peaceful society, said the Speaker.

The search operation was conducted at Kheba Ching and its surrounding village as part of a security measure taken up ahead of the Khongjom Day celebration.

The same team of police personnel conducted another special drive against selling of liquor in various places of Kongjam area and seized around 200 litres of Local Made liquored during the special drive today evening.

IMPHAL, April 21: Co accused in the Baby Lungnila Elizabeth murder case Laishram Suresh was today remanded to judicial custody till May 3 by Chief Judicial Magistrate, Imphal West RK Memcha.

He was produced before the CJM by the CBI Special Branch.

Following his arrest on April 16 evening from the Sangaiprou area, Laishram Suresh alias Biren alias Nabakeshor 45 son of (L) Thambalngou of Pukhao Naharup at present staying at Nongmaikhong was in the custody remand of the CBI since April 17.

His was arrested a week after another co-accused Heisnam Premi Devi was arrested on April 9 from the RIMS campus.

He will be produced before the court again on May 3.

Another co-accused in the Baby Lungnila Elizabeth murder case against whom the CBI has announced a wanted tag of Rs One lakh identified as Ngamkhotinlal Lhouvum alias Ngamphu alias King is still at large.

IMPHAL, April 21: A rally condemning the killing of Athokpam Ranbir son of (L) Ghanashyam of Wangkhei Ningtham Pukhri Mapal was taken out today.

Ranbir was found dead on April 12 at Wangkhei Yonglan Leirak with head injuries from the gate of his friend who had called him out of his house the previous night.

The rally was taken around Wangkhei Ningthem Pukhri mapal and Andro Parking. However, on reaching Palace gate, a police team made the protestors to turn back.

The protestors demanded accused Loken should be hanged till death.

Unless Loken is punished, it will encourage further such crimes in the state, lamented a protestor.

IMPHAL, April 21: The Election Commission of India has declared under sub-section (2) of Section 58 of the Representation of the People Act, 1951 that the poll held on April 17 last in polling station of 31/1 Moijing of the Thoubal assembly constituency of the No. 1 Inner Manipur Parliamentary Constituency to be void and appointed April 22, 2014 as the date and fixed the hours from 7 am to 4 pm for taking fresh poll of the said polling station in accordance with the Commission’s instruction contained in the chapter XIII of the Handbook for Returning Officers, said it in a press release issued by CEO Manipur.

In this connection, the concerned Returning Officer and police department have been directed to make necessary arrangement for the fresh poll, the release further mentioned.

IMPHAL, April 21: Parents of the girl whose doctored pictures were allegedly uploaded on a social networking site has claimed that the pictures were uploaded with full knowledge of the parents of the accused.

Addressing a press conference, the father of the girl said that the parents were fully aware of the uploading of the pictures and should be put in jail along with their son.

He said the allegations that a tiffin box having poisoned food inside the jail cell of the accused is totally baseless and unfounded.

Since the pictures have been uploaded, his daughter has been mentally harassed and now with the issue being reported by newpapers, she is suffering from fear psychosis, he said.
