IMPHAL, May 5: A press release of the Zomi Re-unification Front has clarified that the ZRF is no longer under the fold of the Kuki National Organisation since long. It said, the ZRF is one of the constituent members of the United Peoples’ Front ever since it left KNO and that the outfit is also one of the signatories of the Suspension of Operation with the government.

The release has also lamented the alleged high-handedness of a certain official of the 46 AR who has been targeting the group.

IMPHAL, May 5: Kangla Facebook Group and Blooming Manipur jointly organized a cleaning exercise of the Ima keithel today.

A joint statement said Ima keithel is associated with our history and that it is the duty of the people to keep it neat and clean.

Pointing out that film posters should not be pasted on the walls of the Ima keithel, the joint statement expressed hope that the Film Forum Manipur will take a resolution to discourage the pasting of film posters on it. Others are also being appealed not to paste posters in the name of advertisement it added and appreciated Imphal Municipal Council for lending help in the cleaning exercise.

It also appreciated James Vaiphei and the young children of his children home for taking part in the cleaning drive today.

IMPHAL, May 4: The All Manipur Women Voluntary Association (AMAWOVA) organized an awareness campaign today at the Manipur Dramatic Union hall regarding the rising incidence of violence against women in the state.

Speaking at the awareness campaign, Shielaramani  Lecturer of Dhanamanjuri College said that since women have been identified as the weaker section of the society a long time back, there is the ever increasing number of crimes against them.

Even stern laws cannot eradicate crimes against women and only a proper education system can eradicate all such crimes, she said.

She continued that removing all gender biased texts from the school curriculum would also help a lot in the fight against the rising number of crimes against women.

Women should be careful of crimes committed by family members, security forces under the AFSPA and of discrimination and mental abuse at their workplaces, she said.

IMPHAL, May 4: The post mortem of the 18 year old student of Trio Standard English School who reportedly died after consuming poison at the school premises was conducted at the Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Science (JNIMS)`s morgue today in presence of a Magistrate with full video coverage. The dead body of the girl and still lying as an unclaimed body at the morgue as the family members of deceased girl are yet to take back the lifeless body.

The 18 year old, daughter of Angou Khan of Yairipok Houden Keirangbi is said to have committed suicide by consuming poison at the veranda of the school whose founder is the father of Abdul Razzak alias Boy (25), of Keirao Urup Salangthong Mayai Leikai  with whom the deceased had eloped a year back.

IMPHAL, May 5: Troops of 27 Sector under Red Shield Division apprehended two Zomi Revolutionary Front (ZRF) cadres on May 2, said a press release of the PIB (Defence Wing).

Based on intelligence from sources regarding the presence of ZRF cadres in the  general area of Bungmel village, Churachandpur district, an operation was launched by 46 Assam Rifles under 27 Sector/Red Shield Division, it said adding that the columns apprehended one ZRF cadre Rig Valte alias Rigsong (30), son of (L) Ginzalian Valte, resident of Elim Veng New Lamka, Churachandpur district.

Based on a quick on-spot interrogation of the cadre, a joint operation was launched which led to apprehension of another ZRF cadre Khamkhanlun alias Femendo (38), son of Kamzachin, New Lamka, it said and added that both apprehended individuals were later handed over to Imphal West Police Station.

IMPHAL, May 5: “On  May 4, a cadre of UNLF Army No 886 (Batch No 13) s/s Sgt maj Salam Kunjabihari alias Tharoiba, a resident of Khordak Awang Leikai, PO-Kumbi, PS-Kumbi, Bishnupur surrendered to the security forces of Red Shield Division at 3:30pm with one Point 22mm Rifle with Magazine”, claimed a PIB (Defence Wing) statement.

The individual revealed that he joined UNLF outfit in 2000 and was actively involved in money collection for the banned outfit from the general  area  of Kumbi.

IMPHAL, May 5: The All Tribal Students’ Union Manipur (ATSUM) and The Thadou Students’ Association, Sadar Hills (TSA-SH) have in separate releases strongly condemned the burning down of 36 houses at Silent village on May 3 by Seijang villagers.

“Although there is a bone of contention between the two villagers over a portion of land, the matter can be resolved amicably in a court of law,” said ATSUM in its release.    

The student body urged the state government especially the Tribal Affairs and Hills to extend maximum relief fund to the Sailen villagers for the lost incurred.  

Meanwhile, in a separate release, the Ethno Heritage Council (HERICOUN) has said that the Sailen village incident happened following a land dispute between the two neighbouring villages, Sailen and Sheijang and appealed not to make it a communal issue.     

HERICOUN in its release also demanded the state government to release the arrested five persons in regard to the incident without any conditions.
