BISHNUPUR, January 7: In connection with the alleged killing of Chaobi Bibi during the intervening night of January 5-6 inside her own house, a public meeting was held at Kwakta today.

The meeting was also attended by Moirang SDPO Raghumani, Tronglaobi Zilla Parishad member Bichand and social worker Md Nur Rahman.

Chaobi Bibi, 65 wife of (L) Ushmail of Kwakta Makha Leikai, Ward No 7 was allegedly killed inside her own house, and her belonging robbed.

Angered by the alleged killing and robbery, the locals had also held a public meeting on January 6 at 4 pm at the Kwakta playground and formed a JAC.

During the meeting it was resolved to condemn the act of killing Chaoba Bibi for a few things and to demand the Moirang police to take up a case and arrest the accused at the earliest.

The meeting had also decided that the police should recover the items lost from Bibi’s house for which a list of items missing was submitted to the police.

The culprits found involved in the killing will be ousted from the village and their properties will be turned into public properties, the meeting had also resolved.

The meeting had also resolved to demand a Rs 10 lakh compensation for the bereaved family.

Addressing a press conference today at the residence of Wangbal GP pradhan H Chandrakala Devi, chairman of the Thoubal CD Block Committee and pradhan of Khangabok part II GP, Kh Khoimei Singh charged the state government to suppressing the pradhans and members of the Thoubal CD block.

He further said that such suppression has created a gap between the PRI members and the people of the district.

The state government has not release the necessary funds for the implementation of the MGNREGA, he said before adding that approval for 39 days of work was sanctioned last year, even though the act guarantees 100 days of job in a year to the rural populace of the country.

He further said that the government had release funds on two counts for the approved 39 days first Rs 1.9 crore for two days and then Rs 5.98 crores for four days, he said.

He continued that the PRI representatives have been urging the government to release the funds for the remaining 33 days of work, but to no avail.

He also sought the attention of the Chief Minister in this regard and further requested him to release funds for 100 days in the interest of the Job Card holders of the unemployed rural populace.

During the meeting, the leaving of a bomb at the gate of the elected representative Chandrakala Devi, was also condemned terming it as an act of cowardice and further demanded clarification from all concerned at the earliest.

JIRIBAM, Jan 7: The body of a Junior Intelligence Officer of the Subsidiary Intelligence Bureau, Jiribam was fished out from the Jiri River today.

The officer has been identified as Thokchom Roneykumar Singh, 43, son of (L) Th Daiyomai Singh of Kalinagar part I, Jiribam.

The IFP had reported earlier that a JIO of the SIB had remained traceless since, January 1.

According to family members, Roney had left home on the night of January 1 and failed to return home, ever since.

After he failed to return the next day, locals launched a search operation, but failed to recover his body.

This noon, locals of Jirighat (Assam) reported the floating of a dead body on the Jiri River, following which, the Jiribam Police was informed.

SDM S Imosana Singh led a Jiri police team to fish out the body and kept the body with at the police.

However, the reason behind the death is yet to be ascertained.

JIRIBAM, January 7: A joint official verification meeting on the boundary dispute of Jiribam sub-division and Tamenglong district was held today at the guest house of PWD, Jiribam at 8:30 am.

During the meeting, officials of Tamenglong district was led by C Arthur, Deputy Commissioner, and included Joseph Paolin, ADM and Shantikumar Kabui SDO Tousem whereas the Jiribam team was led by Y Iboyaima Singh, additional Deputy Commissioner and included Imosana Singh SDC, Th Mani Singh ASSO, O Biken Singh, Mandal.

The meeting was also attended by officials of Directorate of Settlement led by Md Rashim uddin and his three officials.

The official team first visited Khadagor village and then Pangkotphai, Ngahmunphai, Phaituol and Tatbung areas.

The source of dispute was raised on the complaint of Khadagor, Pangkotphai, Ngahmunphai, Phaituol and Tatbung villagers.

They claimed that the land of Tamenglong district was encroached by Jiribam sub-division.

Based on their claim, the official team had visited all the specific disputed areas for the settlement of the boundary issue.

The verification of the disputed land was held as per land record of Department of settlement and on the physical position of the two districts.

Speaking to the media persons, Commanding Officer col HR Singh of 27 AR said that the operation Hornbill took place on the late night of Monday January 6, based on specific report.

During the operation, the 27AR seized a large number of arms and ammunition from NSCN (K) Camp, he said.

Further according to the AR officer, the seized items are two AK 47 Magazines; five 303 Riffles; two SLRs; one Carbine machine gun; 300 gms Gun Powder; three numbers of 7.62 mm live round; 20 combat dresses; six punch; three solar panels; six batteries and 49 fired case of ammunition, along with the party flag.

The AR team had also seized documents and some kitchen items.

Further according to the CO, the camp was approximately 500 feet by 300 feet and run by a self-style major namely Chamdam Kamei with nearly 20-25 cadres. Unfortunately, the cadres managed to escape taking advantage of dense forest, he said.

IMPHAL, January 7: Another 18 polling station has been added for the upcoming Parliamentary election in 2014, said O Nabakeshore CEO Manipur.

He said the aggregate of polling stations will be 2662 polling station and the new addition has been made for the conveniences of the voters to cast their votes. As per the guideline from the Election Commission the maximum voters at a polling station must be 1200 for urban areas and 1400 for rural areas. Further, the polling booths must be kept within a walking distances of two kilometres for any particular voter. In abeyance with the policy, 18 new polling stations were approved by the election commission of India, he added.

He added that in upcoming the Parliamentary election electronic voting machines (EVMs) will be used at both Inner and Outer constituencies. We have sufficient EVMs for the 2662 polling station with 15 percent reservation stock.

The first level checking of EVM machine has been completed with the participation of technical experts from Bharatya Electronic Ltd and concerned DC of each district at the strong room.

The second phase of checking will conduct before the process for filing of nomination commences.

He further announced that the new plastic voter card (PVC) will be issued for newly enrolled electors on or before January 23, 2014 and previous voters can apply for PVC too.

Union Minister to arrive in state

IMPHAL, Jan 7: The Union Minister of State for Agriculture and Food Processing Industries, Dr Charan Das Mahant will be arriving in Imphal on a two-day visit on coming January 10. After landing at Imphal airport in the afternoon, the minister along with a team from the agriculture ministry will visit Central Agriculture University, Iroishemba in the evening followed by a review meeting on RKVY/NHM/NMFP.

On the next day, the minister who has been declared as a state guest will visit Moirang and Loktak lake in the morning where he will interact with farmers and fishermen. He will also hold similar interaction with farmers of Imphal east farmer field (CAU) in the afternoon.
