Imphal. May 7NNN : The government of Manipur was accused of not paying necessary attention to the tension regarding land dispute in Chandel district of Manipur.
Speaking to media persons in its office at Kwakeithel, Imphal, the president of All Manipur United Clubs Organization (AMUCO), KT Rahaman said that tension between two neighbouring villages inhabited by Aimol and Maring tribes near Pallel bazaar in Chandel district has been brewing since May 5 over land disputes between the two villages.
The situation has deteriorated every passing day leading to quarrels, blocking of roads, cutting water supply pipes and even firing of guns which may lead to unfortunate and unwanted incidents disrupting the peaceful atmosphere of the area in particular and the state in general, said the president of AMUCO.
Appealing to the state government to take appropriate and immediate steps to defuse the strained relations between the two communities before any untoward and undesirable incident occurs, AMUCO president said the situation demands urgent positive action from the side of the state government to bring back peace through an amiable solution to the trouble.
Saying that all communities living in different parts of Manipur should live in peace and harmony, Rahaman also appealed to the two communities to hold peaceful negotiations and try to bring about a cordial agreement to solve the problem.
He went on to say AMUCO exists for integrity, peace and harmony of the people of Manipur and a team of AMUCO had met the villagers of both the communities to try to bring them to negotiate a compromise so that peace and harmony can be maintained to avoid any communal flare up.

Imphal, May 7 NNN: American rock band Fire House took the young Manipuris to the wonderland for a while.
Sweat, dust, shouts and rocking to the full-fire fury by the hypnotised crowd marked the show of Fire House in the violent filled state capital Imphal on Sunday evening.
From early afternoon people started conglomerating at Hatta Kangjeibung in Imphal, the venue where the American rock band was to rock. Though they knew the show would start after dusk, the wait at home could no longer held them.Just after the local bands had the warm-up session, the American band swiftly took control of the stage, the crowd and of course the whole two hour-show had transformed Hapta Kangjeibung into the wild world of American ambience for the crowd.Everyone was rocking. The modestly attired ‘respectable’ ladies who were brought by the brothers and husbands could no longer resist themselves but to join the crowd’s sway rocking and singing away to the songs of the Fire House. Literally speaking, the jumping feet of thousands of people had kicked up thickening dust but the ‘VIPs’ and many high ranking bureaucrats did not mind as they too were already intoxicated by the Fire House music–they were rocking to the fullest. A young MLA just standing behind the media gallery was seen raising his hands while singing to the loudest of his voice with the American rock band. He had come with his family.
The only hiccups were the occasional tussles between the security personnel and certain over enthusiastic fans of the Fire House. A man was seen slapped and kicked by security men for wild behaviour in the vicinity of the VIPs and their families. He was pushed back after he was disciplined. But the man forgot about the thrash he was meted out by the men in uniform. He continued to rock after removing his shirt. But all these incidents, no one did bother. The crowd was too busy with the Fire House and the rockings.”I love you the people of Manipur. We are here tonight for you Imphal,” was what one of the band members announced. The crowd simultaneously responded to the announcement and the thousands and thousands of hands were seen waving in the air to the high decibel Fire House music.
“I came all the way from Tamenglong only to join the American band concert on live,” said Athuina Gangmei. According to reports, large number of people from Senapati, Ukhrul, Chandel and Churachandpur too rushed in at Hapta Kangjeibung for the show. ‘I used to see them only in the TV shows but now I have witnessed in real,” said contented S Alex, a college student from Ukhrul.
At around 8:45 pm, the band members of the band wished good night to the madding crowd. But the crowd did not accept it. They want more. The band obliged.

Guwahati, May 7 NNN: A tussle between a 21 year old Assamese boy and his family members for sex change has become an unprecedented episode. The final nail in the drama has been the Bombay High Court’s green signal in favour of the boy to undergo sex change.
Bidhan Barua, the 21 year old student has been given a green signal on Monday by the court to have his way. However, the relatives of Barua said they were hurt by the court’s decision.
Bidhan Barua alias Swati claimed himself to be a female trapped in a man’s body. In the this regard, Barua had petitioned the Bombay High Court after his parents allegedly thwarted his sex reassignment surgery at Mumbai’s Saifee Hospital on April 17. The Guwahati-based parents had traced Bidhan, their youngest
son to Mumbai and had allegedly threatened the doctors against changing his gender.
The 21-year old Assamese boy, in his petition contended that he always felt he was born with the wrong sex and used to dress like girls much to the dislike of his parents, who used to beat him up.
Bidhan Barua also said that his intention to undergo the operation was to marry his partner, a flight lieutenant in the Indian Air Force. Last week, the high court had rebuked Bidhan for writing to the Chief Justice and other authorities threatening to commit suicide if it did not hear his petition immediately and restrain his parents from prohibiting him. The chastising raised hopes of Bidhan’s father Supti Ranjan Barua that his son would remain a male. However, the court’s observation that Bidhan was an adult and had the right to take decisions about his life, came “as a shock”.
“How can the court come to a conclusion so fast? We are a joint family and as this is a sensitive issue we have to discuss and take a collective decision on something that that has ashamed us. We will keep all options open including challenging the court’s observation,” Supti Ranjan, an employee of Northeast Frontier Railway in Guwahati said Monday evening.
Other members of his family said they would move the Supreme Court if necessary. They added that disowning Bidhan could be an option.

A protest rally to protest against the killing of Richard Loitam, Uripok and O. Laaba, Yumnam Leikai was taken out in Imphal city today.
The protesters after assembling at AMSU H/Q situated at DM College complex took out the rally however police intercepted them near MG Avenue. The students tried to forcibly proceed further and shouted various slogans.
After that they returned towards the turning of Khuyathong and stood there with slogans. There too, the police team again came and an altercation followed. The protesters then assembled at AMSU H/Q where a meeting was held and decided future course of action.
Meanwhile over 300 people from different walks of life and many organizations yesterday came out to protest at Besant Nagar, Chennai, against the brutal murder of Richard Loitam. The protestors demanded that the Karnataka Government bring out the culprits and justice be brought to the grieving family as well as to the society. It also called upon the Karnataka government to take action against the Acharya NRV school of Architecture management for their negligence, false accusation and the cover-up in the death of Richard Loitam.
The gathering stood in silence and prayed for two minutes for the departed soul. Slogans were shouted, banners and placards put up by the participants
Sarungbam Bonny a student said , “It says India is the biggest democratic country. But here, it is suppressing the minorities, hiding the truth, discrimination and so on. Is it not sowing seeds for unwanted tyranny?
Are we living in a democratic country or some Facist country?”
Dilbir Soram (Associate Engineer, Caterpillar) said “Almost one month has passed but the college is still hiding the merciless murder. What is the college upto? Are they fearing reputatiuon loss?”
Vicky (Senior Software Engineer, TCS) said “ We beared the freedom struggle together believing we are brothers and sisters. But why such an act of injustice ? We demand justice and only justice”
Seema Shijagurumayum (Product Manager, Redington India Ltd) said “This collective voice will not die down till the justice is granted. We are here as a human being feeling for another human being. Richard Loitam was a 19 year old student from Manipur, who was a Architecture student (1st Year) at Archarya NRV School of Architecture, Bangalore. On the afternoon of 18th April, 2012 .Richard was found dead on his hostel room bed in a pool of blood with multiple injuries to his body and bleeding from his eyes, nose, mouth and ears. The signs on his body, which can still be seen in photographs, bear clear and distinctive signs which could have come only from being assaulted and battered. However, many conflicting reasons have been assigned as the cause of his death even before the details of the post mortem are made available, which raises concern and worry that certain vested interest individuals might not want the exact cause of death to come out and are trying to cover up the whole issue. Richard’s parents who are devastated by the irreplaceable loss are convinced that their son died of campus violence as there are indications and witness accounts of Richard having an altercation with other students on the evening of 17th April, the night before his death. Accordingly, they approached the authorities of the Institute to carry out a thorough, fair and transparent investigation so that justice is done and the culprits, if any, are brought to book.
Even after the passage of reasonable time, the authorities of Acharya NRV School of Architecture, Bangalore did nothing of significance, thereby prompting the parents of Richard to approach the police for help. The local police have not done a proper investigation into the matter, nor has the college authorities co-operated with the investigation thereby giving a sense of frustration and restlessness to the family and near ones of Richard.
The protest campaign was organized by volunteers of Justice for Loitam Richard Group Chennai.

In the first incident, a pedestrian identified as Koijam Ibungo alias Sashikumar, 38 of Khurai Chaithabi Leirak was mowed down by a Tata truck bearing registration no MN 01 5532 on the morning of April 6 at around 9am.
The incident happened at Khurai Nandeibam Leikai.
Meanwhile, in another road mishap a man travelling on top of a firewood-laden Tata Mini truck fell down and died on the spot. The man has been identified as Mingjathang, 40 of Sagolmang.
The incident happened at Ingourok under Tengoupal PS, Chandel district.

Srinagar, May 7(ANI): Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Monday said that the Armed Forces Special Power Act (AFSPA) would soon be revoked from areas where the presence of the Army is not required.
“I believe that in the months ahead you will definitely see forward movement on the selective revocation of the Armed Forces Special Power Act (AFSPA) from parts of the state,” Abdullah told mediapersons, while presiding over the civil secretariat here.
Mehbooba Mufti, chief of People’s Democratic Party (PDP), had recently accused the government of not having the political will to have the controversial Act repealed.
This was Abdullah’s first day at office since the secretariat’s shifting from the winter capital Jammu.
“After the span of six months, the secretariat has started functioning in Srinagar and we have come here with a hope that the coming six months would be beneficial for the people and we get the support of people like last year,” he said.
Referred to as the ‘Durbar Move’ in local lexicon, this annual century-old tradition reportedly costs the state exchequer over Rs. 100 million annually.
Abdullah said the government will try to honour the commitments it has made to the people.
“We would try our level best to fulfill the promises and commitments made by the government. Efforts would be made so that there is no laxity on the part of the government and we are able to maintain peace and order in the state,” Abdullah added.
Srinagar is located 300 kilometers north of Jammu. The state government secretariat shifts every spring and autumn between the two capitals in conformity with changing weather patterns.
