IMPHAL, August 5: Chief Minister O Ibobi has conveyed his best wishes for the speedy recovery of health of Sonia Gandhi, chairperson UPA and president of the All India Congress Committee.
In a letter sent on August 5, the Chief Minister has stated that there were extreme concerns in the state on learning of Sonia Gandhi’s medical conditions which necessitated surgical treatment in the United States, stated a release of the secretary to Chief Minister.
It has also added that there is great satisfaction to know that she is recovering following successful surgery.
The Chief Minister has conveyed his best wishes for a speedy recovery from the ailment and a good health and long life, added the release.

IMPHAL August 5: Manipur Artist Touring Drama Party’s Bisharjan, a Manipuri adaptation of a play written by Rabindranath Tagore was premiered today at the Manipur Dramatic Union hall located at Yaiskul in Imphal east.
A ceremonial function was held prior to the premier show this afternoon. Dr. K. Sobita Devi, director Art and Culture, government of Manipur, Ksh. Ibohal Singh, president MDU and G. Gourakishwor, director, Hueiyen Lanlong Thangta Association graced the function as the chief guest, guest of Honour and president of the function respectively. Bisharjan, a production of Manipur Artist Touring Drama Party was sponsored by the Ministry of Culture, government of India, New Delhi, under its Tagore commemoration grant scheme. The play directed by E. Joykumar Singh, is revolved around social discrimination and victimization of common people by high and mighty in our society. The play is translated to Manipuri from its original text by Khomdram Dhanachandra.

The educated unemployed youths of our state have bestowed some faith in the state government after the declaration of recruitment result of 503 graduate teachers under Rashtriya Madhyamik Shikshya Abhiyan (RMSA). Although the recruitment process was not that proficient, the result could be written in golden letters in the history of the state. It has been a notion that government jobs in the state are purchasable at a certain specific rate, say ten lakh rupees for some grade-I post or five lakh for grade-II. Majority of our youths remain dejected while only some fortunate could procure jobs by paying the requisite amount. This has been in vogue for quite a long time. However, the RMSA result could be regarded as a “revolutionary” step taken up by the state government towards establishing confidence among the educated unemployed youths. Many proficient youths have been selected as graduate teachers without spending a single paise. We have much faith in them that they will work with dedication to bring a radical change in the education scenario of the state unlike the previous years. Among those successful candidates, many possess master’s degree with consistent good academic records besides the prerequisite qualification of B.Ed. Notably some candidates are also PhD degree holders who are well-qualified to teach at the university level. This new recruitment policy has indeed rejuvenated hope and aspiration among the youths. Many might have languished if they were not given such opportunity this time.
The dark side of this new recruitment policy is that malpractices are still going on in some examination centres in far-flung areas. Mass copying, impersonation etc. are very much prevalent in these centres. Quite often students from urban areas moved to these centres and turned up with flying colours in examinations. In the midst of such practices, those successful candidates cannot be judged exactly as “qualified teachers”. There may possibly be many candidates who have scored high marks using all sorts of unfair means. Nevertheless, such recruitment policy is a step towards curtailing “corruption” in the most controversial department of education (schools).
It will be more appropriate if the authorities concerned formulate more proficient recruitment policy free from corruption and nepotism. The youths are the backbone of the society and hence healthy competition must be encouraged among them. Corruption has really disturbed the minds of our youths. This has been going on for quite a long time. Our society may perish soon if the youths are made to go this way. The government cannot alone fulfill all needful things for the youths, but then things like corruption free job recruitment will at least give a ray of hope to them. Only RMSA will not work. There should be transparency in every competitive and job recruitment examination. RMSA recruitment should be an exemplary approach. The youths have much greater expectations than this.
The government should better keep up the aspiration of the youths by ensuring corruption free competitive examinations. The RMSA result is just a trailer. The full picture is yet to be presented by the government. This trailer has lit up the faces of many youths who have nearly lost faith in the present system. The government should think seriously on this matter. Corruption can be rooted out if the government employees are recruited in a more transparent manner. The newly recruited teachers of RMSA will think twice before moving way from their responsibilities. The buyer-seller type of relationship between the government and the employees will eventually come to an end if the recruitment is made purely on merit basis. The youths will surely welcome the change with great expectations from the government.

IMPHAL August 5: A Drawing and Essay writing competition was held today in connection with the 32nd foundation day observation of Young Voluntary Organization at the community hall at Wangkhei Puja Lampak, Imphal east.
A ceremonial function was held in the morning wherein S. Tomchou Singh, retd. chief conservator of forest, and L.C Ruhinikumar, president, Y.V.O. graced the function as the chief guest and president respectively.
The drawing competition was conducted in two categories while the essay competition was open to all.
Pooja Aheibam d/o Aheibam Nabakumar of Kongba Kshetri Leikai and a student of Kendriya Vidyalaya School and S. Rohit Meitei s/o S. Ratankumar Sharma from Wankhei Tokpam Leirak student of Mega Manipur School bagged the first places in the KG to 4th standard and 5th upto 8th standard categories respectively.
Maibam Rakesh Singh, s/o M. Shyambabu from Thangmeiband Lairenhanjaba Leikai of Modern college Imphal was awarded the first place of the essay competition that was held side by side with the drawing competition.

Trafficking of women and children has become very common and is a fast growing criminal activity in the world, the same as arms and drugs trafficking. Nowadays, human trafficking is a global problem including India. It is the right time to take it seriously by involving everyone including government and nongovernmental organizations to prevent and stop women and child-trafficking.
Human trafficking can mean the recruitment, transportation, transfer of persons through the use of force or other forms of coercion, abduction, fraud, deception or taking advantage of a person`s vulnerability. Payment of money or other benefits for getting the consent of a person who has a control over another person for the purpose of exploitation. This exploitation include at a minimum, prostitution or other forms of sexual exploitation, forced labour, slavery or practices similar to slavery, servitude or removal of organs.
As per a report from the United States of America, between 600,000 (six lakhs) to 800,000 (eight lakhs) men, women and children are trafficked across international borders each year. According to United Nations Organisation (UNO) and International Labour Organisation (ILO), more than one million children alone are trafficked annually and including men, women and children more than two million people are trafficked every year.
The ILO estimates that such kind of trafficking raises profits of $32 billion (thirty two billion US dollar) a year. It further estimates that $ 32 billion (Thirty two billion US dollar) per year is made from sexual exploitation of women and children. In India too a large number of children are trafficked not only for sex trade but also for non-sex exploitations, which include servitude of various kinds such as domestic labour, industrial labour and agricultural labour. Sixty percent of the victims of trafficked children are below 18 (eighteen) years of age.
According to National Human Rights Commission report, the number of women and children trafficked for sex work in India is stated to be between seven lakhs to one million. The said people are between fifteen to twenty years of age. According to a rough estimate made by a Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO) called End Children`s Prostitution in Asian Tourism, there are around two million prostitutes in India out of which twenty percent are minors. A study conducted in the year 1992 estimates that about twenty thousand girls are being transported from one part of the country to any other country.
Lastly but not the least, the following are the answers to the questions who are involved in women and children trafficking and what are to be done to stop the trafficking crime. According to many noted speakers at the seminars on women and children trafficking, people from all sections such as politicians, government employees, NGOs, businessmen and simple villagers are involved in this trafficking. At a seminar, one expert Christian speaker reported that even some Christian pastors who are theologians are involved in this trafficking business. As mentioned above, this trafficking of women and children are carried on by means of deception, persuasion, bribery and force. The traffickers deceived even the parents of women and children by saying that they would be provided with job and free education. The members present at the seminar resolved that awareness campaigns have to be launched in every local clubs, village authorities, Christian churches for better understanding of the problem and to stop handing over of their children to any person freely and easily. IMPHAL, Aug 5: Former staff of IFP and presently attached to NE TV, N. Bishorjit was attacked by some unidentified gunmen late last night near his house at Kwakeithel on his way back to his home from his present office.
According to the victim, the incident occured while he was returning home after finishing his normal duties from his present office located at Keishamthong area around 11 pm when two gunmen coming in a car shot at him. However, he escaped unhurt.
He was reporedly returning home in a two wheeler last night when two unidentified gunmen fired at him twice at Airport road in Imphal but fortunately, the bullets missed him. The journo has no idea why he was attacked and by whom.
Meanwhile, an emergency meeting of editors and the leaders of All Manipur Working Journalist Union condemned the attack on N Bishorjit.

LAMKA, August 4: A woman identified as Chingkhandim, 55, Churachandpur died this evening at around 1 pm from electric shock at her home.
A local source has identified the woman as a lady havildar presently attached with the CCpur police station and to be survived by a son working with the Assam Regiment and a daughter.
The source has further stated that, the woman had been busy polishing the floor of her house but when she was cleaning the floor under their refrigerator, she was shocked by an electric current and fainted at the spot.
She was taken to the district hospital but was already dead before reaching the hospital, the source added.
The family has been living at her police quarters, added the release.

IMPHAL August 4: the All Manipur NGOs Forum, Imphal in a press conference held today at it office located in place compound strongly condemned the Monday bomb blast at Sangakpham bazaar that claimed five lives including two innocent school going students.
The forum demanded that the central and state government to initiate a thorough investigations and punished those culprits behind the blast. The forum also demanded that the government to take up actions to shift the office of ADC to its respective constituencies by providing sufficient security measures. The forum said that for some vested political conveniences indulgence in violent activities is very unfortunate and appealed the concerned authorities to abstain from terrorizing civilians in the future.
