IMPHAL, Jan 23: A public meeting was held today at Ibudhou Luwang Pokpa Lampak at Singajamei Chingamakha to protest against the killing of Maisnam Ratan Singh, s/o late M. Ibotombi Singh. Ratan was killed on Sunday in a bomb blast that left 4 others injured near the residence of the outgoing Assembly, Shri Irengbam Hemochandra Singh. Following the meting, a joint action committee was formed in connection with the incident. According to a press release from the JAC Convenor S. Shyama Devi, the meeting today resolved to appeal to relevant authorities for the family of the deceased and those injured to receive adequate compensation; to appeal to relevant authorities to bring about an amicable situation regarding the threat and ban on Congress party workers and to appeal for refraining from bomb attacks on public and civilian spaces.

IMPHAL, Jan 24: Troops of 31 AR arrested three smugglers and confiscated 175 kilograms of red sandal wood after launching an operation at Dalpatti in Moreh. The arrested persons were identified as Mahender, 24, son of Narayan and Mantosh, 30, son of Biren, both residents of Ward No 2, Moreh, and a Myanmar national, Bylay, son of MA Jat, from Tamu.

Elsewhere, a combined team of 27 A and 28 AR apprehended six Bangladesh nationals who were staying without valid documents at Lilong Bazar during a joint operation yesterday. They have been identified as Md Qalim, Nur Alam, Md Inoz, Ali Johar, Zahir Hussalan, Zafar Hussain and Md Touchi and were handed over to Lilong police station.

IMPHAL, January 22: A cycle rally was organized today by Animal Gym, Khoyathong with the theme. “Life is wonderful without drugs.” The rally was flagged off by National power-lifter P. Robindro. RK Bishorjit an instructor with Animal Gym said that the rally was being organized with an aim to raise awareness amongst young people to stay away from drugs. He further said that the banners being used in course of the rally was aimed at spreading the message about staying away from drugs and to lead a life of disciplin.

IMPHAL, January 22:On the third day of Loktak Brigade Republic Day football tournament at Moirang College, Phubala Football Club defeated Kumbi Football Team one nil in a penalty shoot out. In the second match Nachao Football Club defeated Khordak Youth Organisation 4-1.

On the second day Kumbi Football Club defeated Regional Clubs Union,  Moirang 4-2 in a penalty shoot out. In the other match of the day, Modern Ideal, Thanga defeated Moirang Football Club by a solitary goal.

IMPHAL, January 21: The United Revolutionary Front, Manipur has banned the workings of the Trinamool Congress and the MSCP with immediate effect.

A press release by AK Pibarel, information and publicity secretary of the outfit claimed responsibility for the grenade attack carried out at the Khurai Sajor Leikai residence of Khurai a/c Trinammol candidate Leisangthem Yaima alias Sushildro yesterday.

The attack was carried out as a part of the boycott of the general election by the URF and the attack was carried out at Yaima’s residence for ignoring the dictat of the organisation and misleading the public, it said. The same will be tendered to the rest of Trinamool candidates  and the workings of the political party will be viewed seriously. Further, the Manipur State Congress Party have also been banned for not following the rules laid down by the URF, it said.

IMPHAL, January 21: The election of ZYF, Imphal West and Imphal East zones were held at the ZYF Head office in which Hounilung Panmei of Tarung was unanimously elected as chairman, D Stephen of Thuijang village as administrative secretary, R Henry of Thuijang as joint secretary and Rabi of Namthanlong village as information and publicity secretary of Imphal West.

For the ZYF Imphal East district zone, Nanda Kamei of Sawombung Namdai village was unanimously elected as chairman,  D Pourinlung of Taihu village as administrative secretary and G Pouhoilung as joint secretary.

Election notifications for ZYF Sadar Hills zone which was postponed and those for other ZYF zones which are pending election will be issued at the earliest, said a notification.

IMPHAL, January 21: 57 Mountain Division instructed by the Director General of Police Manipur , Ratnakar Baral to open temporary security posts at Khoupum (Tamenglong), Joujangtek (Churachandpur), Dolang Chiru (Bishnupur) following intelligence inputs of the presence of Zeliangrong Unified Front (ZUF) in combat dress which could resort to disruption of polls, extortion, threatening, kidnapping of candidates/workers, ambush/attack on security forces and planting IEDs. Intelligence sources further added that the deployment of 57 Mountain Division at the said areas have begun since there are likely to be clashes between ZUF and NSCN (IM) forces in the areas bordering Bishnupur, Churachandpur and Jiribam.

IMPHAL, January 21: Tongbram (O) Priyadarshini ,MPS  clarified against the publication on local newspapers that a sum Rs I Lakh was seized by a flying squad from her yesterday.  At a press meet held at Manipur Press Club today, she stated that the news published in the papers were baseless and it is an attempt to tarnish her reputation.

It was reported that Income Tax flying squad, set up to check extensive use of illegal money in the ensuing elections had seized Rs one lakh from her on January 19 and the said amount was for financing her husband who is contesting for the Thanga a/c namely Tongbram Robindro. While clarifying to the media the officer said that she was not involved in the case and warns that she will take legal help if the media person and the concern CEO do not clarify. She is at present serving as Assistant Commandant of Manipur Police Training College at Pangei in Imphal East District.
