IMPHAL, January 20: Commandant of 33 AR, N Bhardwaj inaugurated the Republic Day football tournament at Moirang today. Principal of Moirang College, Sunder Kumar was the guest of honour at the function. Team from Kumbi, Moirang Khunou, Thanga, Komlakhong, Gothal, Ningthoukhong and Noney are participating at the tournament which concludes on January 25.

Today, Colonel Bhardwaj also distributed sports items to clubs of Thanga Heisnam, Keibul Lamjao, Moirang Khunou and Laphupat Tera villages as part of military civic action programme undertaken by the unit under the aegis of Loktak Brigade of Red Shield Division.

The approximate cost value of the destroyed poppy cultivation in a three day operation would be worth Rs.3.6 crores in the illicit market said the release.

Barain (32) /o Khangchujin Barian of Ijeirong village from the eastern side of Lamlong bridge according to a police press release from the Superintendent of Police, Imphal East. It further mentioned that upon further verification, Johnah Barain (Sl. No. 1) disclosed that he joined UNPC in 2008 through a person identified as S/S Chirman Pearson Tangkhul and that he is now holding the rank of General Secretary of UNPC while Abija Barain disclosed that he joined the outfit through Johnah Barian Take. They further disclosed that they were involved in extorting money from the general public, government official besides transportation of arms and ammunition and recruiting young boys to the outfit.
