IMPHAL, Jan 17: Following apprehensions over disturbance to public and other unlawful activities in Imphal East, the District Magistrate has notified that Section 11 of the code of criminal procedure will be enforced over the entire district, including Jiribam. A press statement from the office of District Magistrate, Imphal East has notified that no more than the assembly of 5 persons which is likely to turn unlawful in the area will be allowed and that there will be prohibition of carrying of sticks, stones, firearms and weapons of any descriptions or objects which can be used as offensive weapons from 6 am of 17 January, 2012 till 6 am of 16 February, 2012. Permission would have to be obtained for processions, public meeting, rally etc within the schedule area, added the release.

IMPHAL, Jan 16: Troops of 15 Assam Rifles arrested one cadre each of the proscribed UNLF and KCP (MC) today, according to a press release from IG AR (South). The release identified the UNLF cadre as Phuritsabam Ghambeishing Singh, 42, of Salungpham Mayai Leikai and the KCP cadre as s/s Cpl Keisham Doren Meitei, 38, son of Keisham Mera Meitei of Salungpham Maning Leikai. Both of them have reportedly been handed over to Thoubal police.

IMPHAL, Jan 16: The All Manipur Students’ Union (AMSU) has called for a one day consultation of the parents and guardians of students enrolled in private schools and educational institutions, Mission and Catholic schools on January 18, 2012.

In a press release, AMSU has stated that the consultative meet will focus on the anomaly in the admission and monthly tuition fees being charged in private and mission schools in the state.

The meeting will be held at Ema Kongthokhanbi Sanglen at 11.00 am stated the release, which also requested for parents and guardians of the said students to attend the meet and state their viewpoints.

IMPHAL ,January 15:  A joint meeting of the standing committee members of the All Manipur Working Journalist Union, AMWJU, and editors of different media houses in  a meeting held at Manipur Press Club today condemned the action of the state police personnel in forcibly taking away press material which was scheduled for release.

AMWJU general secretary S Sujeshor said the material scheduled for release was subject to editing rights and the editors of the media houses know their duty well.

It should be left to the media for uprooting the various ills affecting the state, a statement by AMWJU president  A Mubi states.

IMPHAL, Jan 15: On the occasion of Army Day 5/9 GR of Loktak Bde under Red Shield Division organized a Know Your Army Mela at Kwakta Football Ground.  The event showcased display of arms and equipment used by Army. 

An information centre for recruitment into Army and Central Armd Police Force was set up to motivate the youth to join the Army & Paramilitary Forces. A medical camp was also established for the populace. The highlight of the event was a enthralling music concert by the Phillora Jazz Band, the local population also enjoyed various games and food stalls put up for them. 

The occasion was graced by all civil luminaries of Moirang, Kwakta, Saiton, Gothal and surrounding areas.  The testimony to the popularity of the event was marked by the attendance of about 8000 people.  The event brought the Indian Army closer to the people of Manipur.

IMPHAL, January 14: Suspected CorCom activists exploded an IED near the residence of one Lourembam Nabachandra at Yumnam Leikai Nambul Mapal near KETAWN embroidery centre today evening at around 6 pm.

According to reports, there was no electricity at the area at the time and a loud explosion was heard.

Later, a slight crater was found near the riverbank adjoining Nabachandra’s residence. Other than splinters causing some damages to his car parked near the riverbank, there were no casualties. Nanchandra is a contractor by profession and a staunch worker ofSingjamei MLA and speaker of the assembly, Irengbam Hemochandra.

IMPHAL, January 13: Acting on the strong directive from the Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India, a troop of 43 Assam Rifles under the aegis of 59 Mountain Brigade, Red Shield Division intercepted five active cadres of KRA at Lungtin village, Saikul yesterday. They were found violating the SoO ground rules by venturing away from their designated camp. The identity of the apprehended cadres are Pvt Thathang Singsit, Pvt Thangpoi Singsit, Pvt Mangminhou Misao, Pvt Ginpu Vaiphei and Pvt Lamcha Hao.  The cadres were in possession of two AK-56 Rifles, one 7.62 MM SLR, one Carbine (US made), one G-3 Rifle, one Radio set (Kenwood), 200 rounds AK-56 (7.62 MM), 40  rounds SLR (7.62 MM), 50 rounds Carbine (9 MM), 10 rounds G-3 Rif (7.62 MM) among other equipment.  The individuals, along with the weapons and ammunition, were handed over to Imphal West Police.

The DC Ukhrul Sudhan R. IAS while briefing the media highlighted the “do`s and don`ts” quoting the media stricture laid down by the Election Commission of India (ECI) particularly based on the point-stricture of no “Paid News”.

IMPHAL, January 13: Thoubal district police assisted by commandos arrested one KYKL cadre at Thoubal Ningombam Utha Leikai on January 11 at around 10.05 pm. The person is identified as ThokchomIngobi Singh,42, of HaokhaMamangLeikai. One hand grenade was seized from his possession.

On the same day at around 12.55 pm, a team of Imphal East commandos arrested one KCP(MTF) cadre, Kh. Tomba Meitei alias Angamba, 30, of KamengKhunjao from Minuthong bridge. One 9mm pistol with two live rounds were seized from his possession.

On verification, he dislosed of being an active member of the organization and working under the command of one KhongbantabamKanta of KamengKhunjao, police said.

Along with a two minute silence observed in the memory of the departed, court work of the District and Sessions judge, Manipur East and Manipur West, Special Court (ND and PS), revenue Tribunal and Family Court and other subordinate courts remained suspended for today. The Thoubal and Bishnupur Bar Associations also observed the condolence meeting, a statement by U Kol Singh, District and Sessions Judge, Manipur East said.
