IMPHAL, Dec 31: The 30th anniversary of the Daily eveninger ‘Kangleipaki Meira’ will be celebrated on January 2, 2012 at Manipur Press Club Imphal.

The anniversary celebration will be attended by commissioner Arts and Culture RK Nimai Singh and Human Rights Activists, advocate Khaidem Mani Singh as chief guest and president of the celebration respectively while other dignitaries including chief engineer CADA, K Manoranjan Singh and joint director DIPR A Balkrishna Sharma will attend as guest of honours.

The anniversary of the daily paper will be marked with the distributions of awards for best journalists from both print and electronic media selected by the said media house, according to a release of the editor.

IMPHAL, Dec 30: One person identified as Narangbam Dhiren, 46, s/o (late) Ibochou of Patsoi part II was killed in an accident inside the MIS Brickfield, Patsoi, this afternoon.

A source has informed that Dhiren works as a mason at the brickfield and he was killed by a Tata dipper, while going backwards. The driver failed to see Dhiren and crushed him under the dipper with regd no MN 05-3-0225.

While the driver managed to escape from the incident spot, enraged labourers of the brickfield burned the truck.

IMPHAL, dec 30: The proscribed People’s Revolutionary Party of Kangleipak (PREPAK), in a statement, clarified that the outfit has no connection whatsoever with one Thounaojam Brojen of Singjamei Thongam Leikai who was reported to be arrested by CDO Imphal west along with hand-grenades on December 26.

Terming the press statement issued by the SP Imphal west regarding the arresst of Brojen as baseless; the PREPAK statement has also clarified that the hand-grenades recovered by the CDO belong to the outfit but it was handed over to Brojen by a cadre of the outfit due to security reasons.

Stating that the hand-grenades were to be recovered by the outfit after sometime, it has further maintained that Brojen is not connected to the outfit in any circumstances.

IMPHAL, Dec 30: On the seventh day of the ongoing 20th Imphal Book Fair, altogether four books written by different writers were released by Sahitya Academy awardee N Kunjamohon Singh.

The books released today were Dr A Tejmani’s ‘Two values’, Ch Chonjon’s ‘Sheireng’ and ‘Sheireng amashung tungee polloi’ and Irabot Ningthouja’s ‘Kangleipakki meihouronda Kangla’.

Another programme held today was reading out of short stories by 12 Sahitya Academy awardees.

IMPHAL, Dec 26: Imphal west district commandos today recovered 10 hand grenades from a private residence.

The owner of the house has been identified as one Th Brojen of Singjamei Thongam Leikai.

A reliable source has informed that the said individual is the proprietor of an Iron scrap shop located at Singjamei Bazar near Kumar Pharmacy.

According to a reliable source, acting on a tip off from a reliable source, Imphal west district cdos this morning recovered 10 hand grenades from the residence on one Th Brojen of Singjamei Thongam Leikai.

The concerned police has registered a case in this regard.

IMPHAL, Dec 26: Following the imposition of the election model code of conduct in the state, the JAC of AMTUC and AMGEO have suspended their cease work strike.

A statement of the JAC has said that the cease work strike of the employees which started on October 24, 2011 have been suspended immediately till further notice.

In the meantime, the Council of Teacher’s Association, (COTA), in a statement issued today has said that the striking teachers from primary to higher secondary lecturers would not perform duty in the upcoming 10th Manipur legislative assembly election. The decision in this respect was arrived during a meeting held today, the release added.

IMPHAL, Dec 26: At least two persons including a student were killed during two separate road accidents in the state today.

In the first incident, a motorist was killed at the spot when he was knocked down by a speeding mini truck.

The incident happened this afternoon at around 1.30pm, at Nongren Mayai Leikai, under Lamlai police station in Imphal east.

The deceased person has been identified as James Tangkhul, 30 of Nongdam Tangkhul village, Imphal east.

The other accident happened this afternoon around 1.45pm at Khagempalli, a Tata truck loaded with rice knocked down a motor cycle borne student of the St. Robert higher secondary school, Canchipur. The student identified as Md Salman Hussain of Lilong died at the spot.

IMPHAL, December 26: A private residence was this morning razed to the ground with only one room left partly standing at thangmeiband Tarung Khul at around 7:15am.

The inferno also destroyed a Bajaj Pulsar completely.

The house belongs to Rashong Panmei, 85, village chief of Tarung khul.

According to family sources, property worth around Rs 8 lakhs was destroyed during the fire.

The family further stated that the fire could have been started from an electric short circuit.

A press release by NajiranBegum,publicity secretary of the association  mentions that violence and crime towards women and children are on the rise in the state and the government has failed to take up effective measures to curb and bring down the crime rate.

The association appeals the government to strengthen the Manipur State Commission for Women so that the body may effectively address the tragedies incurred by the womenfolk, it said.
