IMPHAL, Nov 27: The books “Manipuri Costumes Through Ages” authored by Mutua Bahadur and “Puwarida Kanglei Natki Machak” authored by Longjam Arun were released today in a function held at Ema Mini Hall, Keishampat, Imphal.

Dr RK Nimai, commissioner of art and culture, K Sundergopal, managing director, MGI, Mandalay were the chief guest and president of the function respectively.

Speaking at the function, Dr RK Nimai stated that the books will serve the people understanding the rich cultural aspects of the state.

IMPHAL, Nov 27: A four member delegation of Janata Dal (United) Manipur unit led by its president M. Tombi Singh will leave Imphal for New Delhi in connection with the issue of ‘Supra state body’.

M Tombi in a telephonic conversation informed that the team will apprise the national leaders including JD (U) national president, Sarat Yadav, national general secretary Tyagi and opposition leader Susma Swaraj.

Through the central leaders, the JD (U) Manipur would pressure to give written clarification from the home minister on the issue of ‘Supra state body’, he said.

Further he informed that the delegate would also raise the issue of prolonged economic blockade imposed on the National Highways of the state.

The observation was attended by RK. Ranendrajit former-Editor of Freedom, as chief guest, Ima Sakhi Devi-president AMKIL as guest of hounour and Soibam Ongbi Momon Leima-(AMTCANL), functional president.

The Tammi Chingmi Apunba Nupi Lup was established in the year 1993, with the objective to fight the Armed Forces Special Powers Act, 1958 and other inhuman activities in the state.

Various competitions of singing, spot painting, choreography, will also be organized as a part of the observation at the Malsawm Initiative, LFS Campus on December 2 at 3 pm.

IMPHAL, November 26: The Naga People’s Organization (NPO) has appealed for safe release of KT Joseph of Purul Village who was abducted by unknown persons on November 22 at Imphal.

A release of the NPO stated that the organization or individuals responsible for his abduction should release him as soon as possible in kind consideration of the aggrieved family members.

It may be noted that, KT Joseph is serving as private assistant to education and sports minister DD Thaisii. He was kidnapped on November 22 near Fisheries Office Lamphalpat by some unidentified persons belonging to some revolutionary groups. His daughter and helper who were also abducted were released without any harm at Kangpokpi on the day of the incident. But even after five days of captivity, the victim is yet to be released. His whereabouts is still yet to be ascertained, the release added.

IMPHAL, Nov 25: Troops of 27 Assam Rifles of 9 Sector under IGAR (S) launched operation at Sekmaijin area and apprehended one KYKL cadre today. The cadre is identified as no. 2452 s/s Sgt Major Huidrom Premchand alias Bobo alias Chandan alias James, s/o Gaojao of Sekmaijin Mamang Leikai, stated a release of PRO IGAR (South).

Meanwhile, a release of the Imphal east SPhas stated that two KCP (KK Nganba) cadres identified as Yaikhom Anil alias Chinglemba, 25, s/o Y Deven Meitei of Terapokpi  near phaknung Sangomsang and Thoudam Noren Singh, 34, s/o th Shamungou Singh of Chngarel Tejpur were arrested from Koirengei Bazar on November 23.

NEW DELHI, nov 24: A man has slapped agriculture minister Sharad Pawar in the face, apparently to draw attention to rising food prices.

Sharad Pawar was talking to reporters at a political function Thursday when the man attacked him. TV news reports said the man was shouting slogans about rising food prices.

Television footage showed the man brandishing a knife as he was dragged away by security officials and Pawar`s aides. CNN-IBN TV reported that he was detained by police.

Pawar was not seriously hurt.

Such incidents have become increasingly common in India, where ministers and other officials have had shoes thrown at them and their offices ransacked by angry citizens.

The incidents have usually been over political decisions, corruption and real or perceived injustices.

The graduation ceremony was graced by former vice chancellor and Khurai MLA, Dr. Ng. Bijoy Singh as the chief guest, Dr. Rajkumar Ranjan-director college development council, Manipur University and Prof. N Iboton Singh dean of college of Central Agriculture University, Manipur as the guests of honour while Prof. Ramesh Murthy director Sikkim Manipal University-DE attended as functional president.

Altogether 120 students of BCA, MBA, MCA, BBA, PGDCA were handed over with the graduation certificate by the dignitaries.
