IMPHAL, November 24: 27 Sector Assam Rifles under the aegis of Red Shield Division seized seven tons of firewood being taken off with false transit documents from the area. The wood was loaded in a truck with regn number MN-01 5688 and was coming from Beheng to Singhat. 39 Assam Rifles while conducting a routine checks at its Bualkot check post intercepted the said truck at around 1430 hours on 22 Nov 11. The driver was identified as Mr L Kiran Joy where as the owner of the wood was identified as Mr. Shanti Kumar of Singhat, Churachandpur. The wood was later handed over to the Forest Ranger Officer at Singhat. The prompt reaction and nabbing of the illegal move to put a check on illegitimate supply of wood provided by 27 Sector Assam Rifles was well appreciated by the local populace and civil administration of the district added the released.

IMPHAL Nov 23: “Kishan Khet Mazdoor Congress is an integral part of the Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee” , a statement by its convenor Sheikh Noorul Hassan has stated.

It further stated that H Nabakumar is the chairman of the body and it has been brought to his notice that some individuals with vested interests has organized conventions in the name of the organization at Kshetrigao Rahmania Community Hall, this is an attempt to malign the Kishan Khet Mazdoor Congress, it said.

Though Kishan Khet Mazdoor Congress wants to take necessary action against these individuals who claim themselves as office bearers, the Kishan Khet sympathizers are helpless because they( the claimant of Kishan Khet Mazdoor Congress office bearers)are not the members of Indian National Congress party from any block Congress committee. It further appealed to all the Block Congress Committee and District Congress Committee to inform the Kishan Khet Mazdoor Congress, MPCC if they try to host any conventions in the name of the organization without the prior permission of the chairman and no press releases should be entertained except for those signed by its convenor Noorul Hassan, it said.

IMPHAL, Nov 23: Troops of 5/9 Gorkha Rifles of Logtak Brigade under Red Shield Division in a joint operation along with Bishnupur police commandos have apprehended five over ground workers of PREPAK from Toubal and Nambol on November 21 while they were carrying out extortion, claimed a PIB release.

The individuals revealed their identity as Mayanglambam Premi Devi 25, Mayanglambam Rajan Singh alias Thoiba, 32, Mayanglambam Bikram Singh, 30, Mayanglambam (N) Maibam Sushila Devi, 36 and Ngasepam (N) Thounaojam Thoibi Devi, 42, it further claimed.

The apprehendees were handed over to Bishnupur and Nambol police stations respectively, it stated.

IMPHAL, Nov 22: The state revenue department in a press release has informed that the next Public Hearing before the Committee on Re-organization of Administrative and Police District Boundaries in the state will be held on November 25 at 3:00 p.m. in the office chamber of the Chief Secretary, in the Old Secretariat.

It has further added that the committee will hear the following organizations in its next meeting scheduled: Sekmai Block Congress Committee (I), Imphal west; All Tribal Chiefs and Public Grievances Forum, Chandel, Manipur; Demand Committee on Upgradation of Pherzawl ADC and Naga Peoples’ Front.

The above listed organizations may contact under secretary (revenue), government of Manipur for their confirmation to appear before the committee, it added.

IMPHAL Nov 21: A notification from the executive engineer, W/S Maintenance Division Number II of the PHED has stated that the temporary bund of water intake point of the Porompat Water Treatment Plant is presently under repair. Further, water supplied from the plant to other reservoirs including Sanjenthong Officers Colony, JNIMS, Khurai reservoirs, Minuthong zonal reservoirs will be halted till repairs are complete.

IMPHAL, Nov 21: Unhappy over the government apathy towards development of the road stretch from Lamphel DC office to Langol game village, local clubs of the nearby areas have closed the road stretch from commuters from early this morning at around 9:30am indefinitely.

Supporters of the blockade have informed media persons that even though the people of the area have been appealing to the concerned authorities, the government has remained deaf to their appeals which have made the people to block the road.

There have been numerous accidents along the road due to the numerous pit holes, they informed.

IMPHAL November 21: The Manipur Library Association (MALA) in collaboration with a number of organizations successfully carried out a number of programs during the National Library Week Celebration (NLWC-2011) under the theme, “Read, Learn and Serve”.

The week long celebration started from November 14 at the department of library and Information Sciences, Manipur University and concluded yesterday at Manipur Dramatic Union hall. The first Mayangbam Anandamohan Singh Memorial Lecture synchronising with his birth centenary was held at the occasion. The lecture was chaired by Padmashri RK Jhalajit Singh and eminent persons of the state, Nongthombam Kunjamohan Singh and Dr. M KritiSingh and spoke on the theme “Literature, Society and Library”. A floral tribute was also given to the photograph of Shri Anandamohan Singh, a press release by Sohiarani Soubam, convenor of NLWC-2011 stated.

IMPHAL, Nov 20: A hand grenade was found this early morning near the residence of Horticulture director K Asang at Dingku road. The bomb was later picked up by a team of the Lamphel police at around 6 am. It can’t be ascertain as who or why the bomb was left, police informed.

IMPHAL, Nov 20: Khoupum Area Peace Forum organized a consultative leaders’ meeting of various Zeliangrong civil organization and social workers at Majorkhul Community Hall on November 19.

A release of the KAPF stated that the meeting deliberated over the prevailing tension arising out of armed confrontation between the cadres of NSCN (IM) and ZUF.

The meeting also decided to intervene into the violent conflict between the two groups. It also appealed to all to shun violence and propagate peace and harmony in Khoupum area.

IMPHAL, Nov 19: HD 59 Mountain Division under the theme of ‘Run for peace and unity’ sponsored the ‘First Ever in Senapati – The Great Marathon’ which was organised by Go Go Palz – Igniting People organisation.

The event was organised for the first time in Senapati with two categories. The open category was of 14 km, for which all participants gathered at the gate of 43 Assam Rifles, Lairoching. The start point for the 5 KM long second category which was made for gazetted officers, physically challenged persons, men above 40 years of age and women above 30 years of age was at Karong.

Army and Assam Rifles personnel from HQ 59 Mountain Brigade, 43 Assam Rifles and 5 Assam Rifles also participated in the marathon.

The second category of 5 KM was flagged off by Mr PK Jha, DC Senapati at Karong.

The great marathon culminated at Mini Stadium, Senapati. Brig AK Narula, Commander 59 Mountain Brigade distributed the prizes to the winners. In his speech, the commander lauded all participants and Go Go Palz organisation for the successful conduct of the grand event.
