IMPHAL July 23 : All India Youth Federation, Manipur State Council appeals the state government to provide necessary relief to the flood affected families.

A release by joint secretary, S Sanglen states that the flood has caused immense damage to the livelihood of the farmers as the rice fields and fish farms have badly affected.

The flood situation is an annual occurrence and the state government needs to take up permanent measures to avoid similar recurrence in the interest of the general public, it said.

IMPHAL July 26: Through the initiative of councilor ward no. 6 of Khumbi Nagar panchayet, several relief materials were distributed to flood affected families of Khumbi a/c.

Nongmeithem Babudhon Singh, chairperson Kumbi Nagar panchayet today distributed 10kg of rice along with 1 kg pulses (dal) per families affected by flood at Khumbi a/c that were resulted from recent torrential rainfall.  Side by side several  mosquito nets of the flood affected families from ward no. 4, 5, 6, 7 and 8 of Khumbi a/c  were administered mosquitoes  repellent  solution this afternoon.

Addressing media persons during the distribution of relief materials and administering of mosquito repellant at Lai- achouba mandop located near Kumbi bazaar, Babudhon Singh said that the initiative was solely   taken up by the chairperson with the support of the department concerned of the government. He added that several families are affected by flood that resulted from heavy downpour since the recent couple of days. The distribution  of relief material and administering of disinfectant from mosquito was held at various places  of Kumbi a/c.

LAMKA, August 4: A woman identified as Chingkhandim, 55, Churachandpur died this evening at around 1 pm from electric shock at her home.

A local source has identified the woman as a lady havildar presently attached with the CCpur police station and to be survived by a son working with the Assam Regiment and a daughter.

The source has further stated that, the woman had been busy polishing the floor of her house but when she was cleaning the floor under their refrigerator, she was shocked by an electric current and fainted at the spot.

She was taken to the district hospital but was already dead before reaching the hospital, the source added.

The family has been living at her police quarters, added the release.

IMPHAL, August 7: The all Loktak Lake area Fishermen’s Union, Manipur has welcome the statement of the Chief Minister assuring to rectify the Loktak Lake (protection) Act, 2006. It further draws the attention of the authority concerned to rectify the clauses of the article 19, 20 and 31 in the interest of the fishermen and the people of the state, to ensure peaceful fishing and rearing of fish as usual. It asserted that the fishermen will not accept any form of alternative livelihood schemes until the Loktak Lake (Protection) act, 2006, is rectified to the convenience of the fishermen of the Loktak area. It alleged that the list of hut dweller compiled by the Loktak Development Authority (LDA) has less genuine dweller and urged the authority to introduce a separate act for the fishermen.

IMPHAL, Aug 19: Committee on Human Rights (COHR), Manipur has strongly condemned the highhandedness of VDF personnel which led to the death of Md Isad Ahamed by drowning at Khurai Chairen Thongkha.

A release of COHR stated that security personnel have been violating human rights in the state. The authorities concerned have failed to keep the security forces under control. The incident of Md Isad is unbecoming of a lawful state, it added.

IMPHAL August 24: Keirao unit of AMADA in a drive conducted at Keirao Mayai Leikai seized 18 strips of SP capsules from one Md Warish Kontha,21, s/o Md Islamuddin of the said locality.

A release by AMADA states that as the person was being held at the head office, brother in law of the individual,one Md Azis Shah alias Boycha,23,s/o Md Rafizuddin of Keirao Makting Mang Maya came to the head office to negotiate Warish to be released from custody. At the time,Azis Shah was also found having 5 SP capsules in his persons. Both drug addicts have been handed over to family members after counseling, it said.

As a good will gesture shown to the underprivileged families in connection with the forthcoming Ei-dul-Fitre, Bihari, under his leadership took up this initiatives at three locations of Khumidok and another two locations under Khabeishoi. IMPHAL, Aug 31: Some unidentified persons placed one Chinese hand grenade inside the office complex of Kangleipak Ngalhanba Lup this afternoon around 3.30 pm located at Lamshang bazaar under Lamshang police station.

The said hand grenade was discovered by the members of the Lup and later informed to the Lamshang Police and the said hand grenade was removed safely from the spot by the police this evening.

The motive behind the grenade attacked at the office of Kangleipak Kanna Lup is yet to ascertained, said a member of the organization.

IMPHAL, Sept 4: Altogether 77 self-help groups of Keirao area were given loan of Rs. 25, 000 each under the funding of Manipur Rural Bank and Punjab National Bank today.

The loan amount was distributed to the members of SHGs in a simple function held at Chura Lampak, Arapti Mamang Leikai.

The function was attended by Dr Kh Somorendro, director, Institute of Cooperative Management, Imphal and social worker MI Khan as the chief guest and president respectively.

Speaking at the function, Dr Somorendro urged the SHG members to utilize the loan amount in a proper way to bring utmost benefits to the socio-economic conditions of the society.

He also appealed to the members to be cooperative with one another.

Social worker MI Khan stated that it has been his long cherished desire to bring an upliftment to the socioeconomic condition of the women of Keirao.

He further appealed to the women to utilize the loan amount in a proper and efficient manner.

IMPHAL Sept 10:  The Zeliangrong Union (Assam, Manipur and Nagaland)has  appealed to the public not to create rumors which may affect the communal harmony in the state.

A release of the union stated that that an unfortunate incident took place on September 10 at Moidangpok along the NH 53 stretch. An Alto car (MNO IW-4837) and another van MNOIW-5569 was vandalized whereas the passengers inside were also verbally abused and assaulted. This is an unfortunate incident and the ZU condemns it.

The conflict was due to a rumor and the ZU had also confirmed it as false.

The economic blockade is imposed by the Kukis for their Sadar Hills demand, whereas the stance of the Nagas by imposing the counter blockade is that areas of Ukhrul,Tamenglong and Senapati belonging to Nagas have been included in the Sadar Hills.The Nagas are only opposing what is wrong and the counter blockade would be automatically removed after the Kukis have revoked their stance also,the statement by ZU general secretary K Poushinglung said.

IMPHAL, Sept 14: An official meeting of  the Strategic and Operation Group (SOG) constituted under the chairmanship of state chief secretary, DS Poonia has been summoned on September 17 at 11 am at his official chamber to discuss the security strategies to be taken up to counter the ongoing economic blockades along the National Highways imposed by Sadar Hills Districthood Demand Committee and UNC against the Sadar Hill districthood damand and upcoming agitations by Jiribam Districthood Demand Committee.

The proposed SOG meeting will be attended by the GOC, 57 Mt Div, IGAR (South), IGP CRPF (Manipur & Nagaland Sector), DIG, BSF (Manipur & Nagaland Sector), and Additional DGP (Intelligence) LM Khoute, IGP (L/O) Zone I, II, and Zone III and joint director SIB .

The meeting will discuss on effective security strategies to combat disturbances that have been created in the state due to the economic blockade along the national highways, the official source added.

IMPHAL, Sept 18: A rally highlighting the impacts of climate change was jointly organised today at Sagolmang Pukhao by Social Upliftment and Rural Education Manipur and All Pukhao People Development association Pukhao.

Around 500 people including students, local populace of Sagolmang and Pukhao took part in the rally which was held under the theme “To bring nice bridge on the atmosphere”.  The Rally was flag-off by Major IJ Singh, post commander 23 AR from Pukhao Iranpham and concluded at Sagolmang bazaar. A public meeting was also organised at Sagolmang bazaar wherein in many experts and resource persons gave speech on the climate change issue.

IMPHAL, Sept 21: Consumers’ Club Manipur has lambasted the state government for abnormal price hike of essential commodities in the aftermath of economic blockade imposed on the national highways. A release of CCM stated that the government fails to tackle the issue and as a result of such negligence the people of the state are suffering extremely. The price list framed by the state government is also without the approval of the consumers’ club.

The Consumers’ Club further appealed to the people to take cash memo and receipts while purchasing the essential commodities.
