IMPHAL, June 8: The district Magistrate Imphal East district has clamped prohibitory order under Cr.P.C 144 in the entire Imphal East district from 6 am of June 9 until further notice.
The district Magistrate, M. Lakshmikumar Singh, in his order has prohibited assembly of five or more persons which is likely to turn unlawful in the district and also carrying of sticks, stones, firearms and weapons of any description or objects which can be used as offensive weapons.
The order however stated that the prohibitory shall not apply to Government agencies involved in the enforcement of law and order and the maintenance of essential services.
It informed that persons who want to take out processions for marriages, funeral and religious purposes etc. within the district are asked to apply for permission and refrain from taking out procession until permission is obtained.

IMPHAL, June 13: At least two persons, a motorcyclist and a cylist, were killed in two separate road mishaps which occurred along Tiddim road today.

In the first incident, a motorcylist succumbed to his injuries after being given brief treatment at Shija Hospitals, Langol as he was hit by a mini passenger vehicle along Tiddim road this morning.

Sources said the incident occurred at Thingugei Makha Leikai under Moirang police station around 9.30am this morning.

The deceased has been identified as Laishram Birchandra s/o late Biramangol of Ningthoukhong Mathak Leikai.

In another road mishap today at around 2.50 pm which occurred at Thouda Bhabok Leikai, Imphal, a cyclist succumbed to his injuries after he was hit by a speeding passenger bus plying between Imphal and Churachandpur.

The identity of the deceased is yet to be ascertained.

Lamphel police have retrieved the dead body of from the spot and deposited it at the RIMS Mortuary for identification.

IMPHAL June 17: Socail activist L Yaima and members of Khurai Kendra Development Committee distributed rice and other edible items to the flood affected families of Kangjam Leirak and Hingol Lamhang under Khurai assembly constituency today.

The activist distributed five kilograms of rice and pulses to 75 flood affected families.

Aheibam Mema Devi, a local resident of Kangjam Leirak said that the inundated road conditions of the low lying areas has never been addressed, and by timely intervention of the social activist by making drainages have provided immense relief to the populace.

MOREH, June 19: Brigadier Upendra Dwivedi, Commander 26 Sector Assam Rifles interacted with the community leaders, members of the Chamber of Commerce and media persons of Moreh on June 19 at battalion headquarters of the 31 Assam Rifles here.

On the onset of the interaction, the army officer congratulated the people of Moreh for maintaining spirit of unity and harmony when everyone else is fighting for individualistic, selfish goals.

Upendra observed that harmony amongst the people of Moreh, is key to the peace and tranquility which has been restored allowing trade and commerce to flourish.

The Commander reassured that in the fight against terrorism and for the better future of the border town, the people of Moreh will always find Assam Rifles standing right beside them providing assistance and security. IMPHAL June 23: The BSNL Manipur has opened a new customer service centre at Sangaiporou Telephone exchange, beside the IOC oil pump at Airport Road on June 20.

The service centre is set to provide the 3rd single window multi service counter where various facilities and information pertaining to BSNL shall be made available.

Further, BSNL is planning to set up another two service centers at Kuman Lampak and Canchipur (Manipur University) exchange in the current year to facilitate BSNL services, a press release from the assistant director of Marketing (BSNL) said.

IMPHAL, June 29: An awareness campaign on pre conception and pre-natal diagnostic techniques (regulation and prevention of misuse) Act 1994 (PNDT ACT) was held today at the conference hall of Meitei Council Moreh (MCM) organised by the PNDT division Directorate of Social Welfare Government of Manipur.

IMPHAL, July 2: Troops of 23 Assam Rifles has claimed to have arrested a cadre of the proscribed KCP (MC) Lamyanba Khuman cadre while conducting a search operation in the general area of Leitanpokpi at around 10:30 pm yesterday.

According to a pro statement the arrested cadre is identified as one s/s sgt. Salam Ibohal alias Rochy alias Lion Sing, 42, s/o (L) Manglenjao of Leitanpokpi Mayai Leikai.

He has been handed over to the Lamlao police station, said a statement of the PRO IGAR (S).

IMPHAL, July 8: The Naga People’s Organization (NPO) has strongly condemned the attempt to assault the general secretary of COPTAM by some unidentified persons on June, 28 at North AOC, Imphal. 

In a statement the president, NPO, M. L Markson, stated that the act of causing harm to tribal leaders by any communal forces is uncalled for and unjustifiable. It is an attempt by some anti-tribal elements to sabotage the genuine efforts and demand of the tribal rights in Manipur, it charged.

The NPO demanded the state government to book those responsible at the earliest without which safety of the tribal leaders will not be compromised.

In the meantime endorsing the movement of the COPTAM, the NPO expressed that such acts could be an attempt to derail the tribal movement against the state government’s policy to deny rights of the tribal in Manipur, added the statement.

IMPHAL, July 19: An assistant engineer of the DDK Imphal reportedly drown yesterday in a pond at Waiton, Imphal east.
Police source has said that the engineer identified as Wahengbam Roshni Kanta, 55, s/o Samananda of Wahengbam Leikai Lairenbi Awang had left home early morning yesterday at around 5 am to attend to his farm house located at Waiton, Imphal east district.

However on his way to his farm, he met two of his friends of which one has been identified as Thounaojam Inaoba, 45, s/o Mangi of Waiton Makha Leikai.

The trio further decided to go to Inaoba’s fishfarm for fishing where he was reported to have drowned. He was rushed to the JNIMS, however was declared brought dead, added the police source.

The dead body has been handed over to the family after post mortem and a case has been registered at the Heingang police station in connection with the incident.

Meanwhile the other friend who accompanied the victim to the fish farm is yet to be identified till the filling of this report.

The participants will be imparted training on basic course on disaster management and various techniques on first aid, search and rescue and guidelines to prepare disaster management plan for safety of the students and teachers, a release said.

IMPHAL, July 28: A 44 yrs old  Elangbam Kunja, of Nityai Khangabok Part III Lamlong Bazaar (Thoubal) was bitten by a venomous snake on his Right leg while working at his home and brought to 15 Assam Rifles of 9 Sector under HQ IGAR (South) unit Hospital at around 7 AM on 28 July 2011 in a critical condition.

The released said, the unit Medical team immediately provided anti-venom vaccine. Patient’s condition had gone worse due to the effect of the venom in his tissues. The patient was kept under observation with help of cardio respiratory monitor. As a result, the condition of the patient was stabilized said a release.

IMPHAL, Aug 5: Former staff of IFP and  presently attached to NE TV, N. Bishorjit was attacked by some unidentified gunmen late last night near his house at Kwakeithel on his way back  to his home from his present office.

According to the victim, the incident occured while he was returning home after finishing his normal duties from his present office located at Keishamthong  area around 11 pm when two gunmen coming in a car shot at him. However, he escaped unhurt.

He was reporedly returning home in a two wheeler last night when two unidentified gunmen fired at him twice at Airport road in Imphal but fortunately, the bullets missed him. The journo has no idea why he was attacked and by whom.

Meanwhile, an emergency meeting of editors and the leaders of All Manipur Working Journalist Union condemned the attack on N Bishorjit.
