IMPHAL, April 9: 27 Sector Assam Rifles under the aegis of Red Shield Division organized a rural health and awareness camp at Saidon village for the people of Thingchom Tuitophui and Saidon in CC Pur district on 07 Apr 2011. The medical camp was inaugurated by Col JS Mundi CO, 1/11 Gorkha Rifles. The village chief Mr Thanga thanked the Army for conduct of the medical camp for the villagers. The aim was to provide free medical cover and educate the local population on the importance of hygiene & sanitation. Over 580 locals were treated and provided with free medicines during the camp. The Army also adopted the area for guiding and creating social awareness among the children. The populace of the area appreciated the efforts of the medical camp and suggested that more such camps be organized.

IMPHAL, April 16: 23 Assam Rifles of 10 Sector under HQ IGAR (South) established Stitching and Weaving Centre for Women at Khamanlok Kuki, Senapati district under AR Military Civic Action Project. The inauguration ceremony was attended by the populace of the area in which the above centre was handed over to the village authority of Khamanlok Kuki. Village authority and women society of the area appreciated the efforts for establishing such project for the welfare of women of the remote area.

IMPHAL, April 19: The chairmen of the Tamenglong district ADC has appealed has clarified that DRDA Tamenglong office could not be opened in the district headquarter due to disturbances given ADC chairmen and councillors by some youths claiming to be UNC.
A statement issued by the chairmen ADC Tamenglong said DRDA office could not be opened in Tamenglong as UNC members forced elected councillors to leave the district headquarter when the chairmen himself and some councillors called for a meeting on March 5 at Tamenglong.
The ADC chairmen also appeal general public to extend cooperation and help in successful operation of District Council in the district.

The cloths which are believed to be woven by thoibi at Ngangkhalawai should be preserve in the museum said M. Prithviraj, MLA, Moirang A/C, in his presidential speech of a book release function held at Chingu Thangjing Leikon, Moirang, Bishnupur dist.The book titled Leisemlon, Moirang Thangjing Haroarol was written by Moirangthem Raghumani. On the sideline of this book release function, M. Prithviraj expressed his concern that the artifacts of Thoibi could be loss in oblivion, if necessary steps are not taken to preserve it.Tongbram Mangibabu, MLA, Thanga A/C graced the function as the chief guest and K.Sushila, deputy director, Manipur state archives as the guest of honour. IMPHL, May 11: 16 MARATHA Light Infantry under LOGTAK Brigade, over the past one week has been instrumental in providing bulldozer efforts through 9 Engr Regt to connect the remote villages of Henglep Sub Division with NH-02.  The track which has been completed with the joint efforts of the local villagers from Ukha and surrounding area, fulfills a long standing aspiration of the villagers by providing connectivity across the Thangjing ridge.  The area in the past, due to its remoteness, inaccessibility and lack of development has been used for illegal Poppy & Ganja cultivation and for safe sanctuaries by insurgent groups .The new road will not only improve the security environment but will also pave way for more economic development of the area by providing more alternatives to the locals.  The help extended by the army has been welcomed wholeheartedly by the local chiefs association and the general public and they have volunteered to help in the maintenance of the road in the future, in a press released.

IMPHAL May 18: The motive behind the state government policy to give in to the wills and whims of the ministers in power has been clearly indicated by the recent approval of the state cabinet to compensate minister DD Thaisii on his lost of properties during an attack on his resident located at Senapati district HQ by suspected activist of anti ADC election, 2010 in the hill districts during the wee hours of June 2, 2010.

According to an official source, the state cabinet in its recent sitting has approved to accord an amount of Rs. 96,04,449 as compensation claimed by the minister for destruction and damage caused to his residential buiding during the arson.

IMPHAL, May 21: The last rite of 4 year old Thiyam Robiroy of Bishnupur, who was found dead hanged in a suspicious manner, has been performed amidst a tearful scene today.
The lifeless body of the boy was claimed by the family this afternoon from RIMS mortuary amidst controversy surrounding the dead. The family members and JAC claiming the dead as a murder has already urged the government to book the culprits involved in the incident within seven days starting from May 20 failing which they warned to take up certain forms of agitation.   
Thiyam Robiroy alias Ton, 4 s/o Th Rocky of Ningthoukhong Kha Khunou Ward No.4. was found dead hanging at the compound of the Ibudhou Thangarel Haraobung under Bishnupur police on May 18 afternoon. Strangulation signs was found at the victim’s neck besides both his hands and legs being tied, sparking an extreme outcry not only from the family but from various sections.
