Manipur’s other ‘Iron Lady’

In the 2012 Manipur assembly election, when Chief Minister Ibobi Singh decided to contest from two constituencies — his own Khangabok and Thoubal — he was at the pinnacle of his chequered career that began as a petty contractor. His greatest deed of bravery was to successfully prevent NSCN(IM) general-secretary Th Muivah from entering Manipur in 2010 to visit his native village Somdal in Ukhrul district. This despite the fact that the Centre had requested him to arrange security arrangement for Muivah’s visit.

Be happy to be happy coz you want to be happy

Are you bored of this kind of life? For me, yes. I am bored. But every time I try to find happiness, sadness nurtures me and cuddles me to worries. Now I know why? Every time a child comes to your house, are you not happy? You do stupid things together, he is just happy for no reason. Then when you are being so happy with him, some stupid senior will come and tell you, “Don’t teach stupid things to the child, and teach him properly.” What do you want to be in life? A happy person. Therefore, are you supposed to teach the child or learn from the child? Think readers.

Now, call it ‘Messpur’

The more apt term to describe Manipur today would be to call it ‘Messpur’. Earlier I had used the term “functional anarchy” to describe the state, but that appears to have lost its relevance now. The state seems to have withered away before the revolution and it appears that there is nobody in charge although siren-wailing VIPs continue to criss-cross the state at any given moment of time.

If one of your legs and thighs has sudden appearance of swelling, redness and raised temperature and you feel difficulty while walking, this may be an indication of a very serious condition called Deep Vein Thrombosis (DVT). The lack of exercise, avoidance of long walk, sitting long hours in front of computers and use of contraceptives or hormones by ladies, do play a significant role in the recent rapid rise in incidences of Deep Vein Thrombosis. Besides, use of fashionable high-heeled sandals and shoes do increase the risk of Deep Vein Thrombosis especially among modern, educated and young ladies.

A paradigm shift in India’s development approach : A boon or a bane

With the achievement of independence in 1947, the Indian leaders’ biggest concern was all round development of the country. Nation-building, after the tedious job of state building under the astuteness of Sardar Vallabhai Patel, the iron man of India, was not going to be an easy task. It had to be achieved under a specific socio-political system.

RBI’s silence on demonetisation raises questions on its independence

It has been 13 days since Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 notes were demonetised. Since November 8, when Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced the policy in a late evening television address, millions have lost precious work hours to queue up at banks to exchange their old notes. Workers have been plunged into distress as wage payments have been delayed, states are bracing for a drop in food production as farmers are unable to access crop loans and the supply of commodities in rural markets has plummeted.

An open letter to United Naga Council…

Tears welcomed the news: her husband went to city for work and he sent his wife the money to maintain the family but the neighbour ahead of their house stopped them because they hate the neighbour behind them. Can any of the readers answer me, what is the fault of the family living in the middle?
