New Delhi, Sept 21: Manipur Bhavan in New Delhi shared the joyous moment of Manipuris that happened when the Oriental English School team lifted the Subroto Cup in the inaugural Girls Under-17 category of the Subroto Cup International Football Tournament by scoring 1-0 against the Government Mizo High School in the final meet on Thursday at Dr. Ambedkar Stadium in the national capital.
Resident Commissioner of Manipur Bhavan Rakesh Ranjan congratulated all the players of the victorious team and the team coach R. K. Amusana and the team Manager R. K. Sulochana in a solemn gathering at the Manipur Bhavan Conference Hall here this morning.
Rakesh Ranjan further lauded the Manipur girls’ team, “The Oriental English School team created history by becoming Manipur’s first girls’ team to win the trophy at the Subroto Cup International Tournament.” He extended his best wishes to the players for their future career in the women’s football.
The only game of the final match came at 36th minute when M. K. Kashmina headed home from a free kick. After the goal, oriental English School , Keibi fortified their half and played out their remaining time to emerge the champion.
Kashmina , who had also represented India at the U-13 level said that she was overwhelmed that she could provide the team a reason to celebrate.
The team Coach RK Amusana gave full credit to the team for the success and said that they executed the specific plans for the game. She said that Manipuri girls had a tough fight with Nagaland team in the semi-final and Mizoram team, because the players of Nagaland and Mizoram were physically stronger than the Manipur players. Most of the Manipur players were of 13 or 14 ages and were reading in Class VII and VIII, he added. She also reported that the authority of the Air Force School, Subroto Park in Dhaula Kuan, New Delhi had collected the data of the players of the victorious team for admission into the School free of cost. She hoped that some three or four students might have been selected for it.
In the tournament, Oriental English School , Keibi bagged the prestigious Subroto Trophy with prize money of Rs two lakhs. Lingneikim Kips of Keithelmanbi won the Best Player of the tournament with prize money of Rs. 25, 000/-. Yamaha Company also offered her a Motor Bike. R. K. Amusana won the Best Coach of the tournament with prize money of Rs 25,000/-.
The players of the Manipur teams were I. Sunibala (Goal keeper), P. Bedarani Goal keeper), T. Ranjita (Captain), K.Tony, K.Pinky, Lalam Haokip, S. Zinnia, S. Ranjana, Ph.Anjali, Diana, Lingneikim Kips, P.Omita, M.Arti, Kh. Janda, S. Ajabita and M.K.Kashmina.
Subroto Cup, which began in 1960, is one of the oldest tournament in the country and boasts of participation from over 20,000 schools across the country. This year Subroto Cup scaled new heights with inclusion of all India U-17 girls event besides U-14 boys event and U-17 boys event. For the first time, 17 schools representing all regions of the country vied for the girls title. One girls’ team from Afghanistan was also in action in the girls category.
The Manipur team will leave Delhi tomorrow and will reach Imphal on September 26 or 27.

MNS:- President of India Pranab Mukherjee will flag off the 1st North East India on top of the world (Mt. Everest) expedition from the Forecourt of Rastrapati Bhavan, New Delhi on 20th March 2013 at 1200 Hours. This is as per the confirmation from the communication dated: 15* September 2012 received from the office of the President of India.
Shri 0. Ibobi Singh, Chief Minister, Manipur is the Chief Patron of the expedition along with Shri. D.S. Poonia; Chief Secretary, Government of Manipur as the Chef de- Mission.
The First North East India on top of the World (Mt. Everest) Expedition is the first ever Mt. Everest expedition comprising of team members from North East India. The team members comprises resident of North East India. This mission is to be funded by NEC, Shillong under the abled guidance of Planning Department, Government of Manipur and executed under the leadership and command of Manipur Mountaineering and Trekking Association (MMTA), Manipur.
The significance of the First North East India on top of the world (Mt. Everest) Expedition is;
This is the first Expedition comprising exclusively of the Mountaineers
of North East India.
Mrs. Anshu Jamsenpa, the first lady from Arunachal Pradesh, who has
scaled Mt. Everest twice in the history is part of the climber Team to
create history for the third time.
Mr. N. Chinkheinganba, 15 year old boy, on completion of the
expedition will be the youngest to scale the Mt. Everest.
First expedition to be executed under the leadership of a State
Government.
Currently the participants are on a pre- Everest expedition to Mt. Papsura Peak (6445 meter) of Himachal Himalaya.

Imphal, Sep 15 UNA: A three Day Seminar on the Development of Sports in the North Eastern State kicked off today at Manipur Film Development Cooperation (MFDC) . Chief Minister of Manipur O. Ibobi Singh inaugurated it.
In the opening function of the Seminar, London Olympic 2012, bronze medalist in 51 kg women boxing Mary Kom was awarded with Rs.40 lakh and Rs. 5 lakh each were given to the Olympians of the northeastern states by the Manipur Olympic Association and The Youth Affairs and sports department government of Manipur under the sponsorship of Northeastern Council (NEC).
The inaugural function was attended by, O. Ibobi Singh Chief Minister, Manipur, Paban Singh Ghatowar Union Minister of state and in-charge of DoNER/ Chairman NEC, and Bijoy Koijam president Manipur Olympic Association as chief guest president and guest of honor. Dr. Meinya and Thangso Baite, MPS council of cabinet ministers, MLAs and high ranking officials attended the function.Two Olympians from Sikkim and Assam however could not attend the function as their flights reached Imphal late.
Expressing his gratitude to the Union Minister and Chairman, NEC for providing resource for the event and consenting to grace this function, Chief Minister O. Ibobi Singh said Manipur is now emerging as powerhouse in sports in the country. Organisation of seminar and felicitation of the Olympians jointly organized in Imphal is a welcome gesture.
Chief Minister further said that we have so far been content doing well at the national level. But recent London Olympic has raised the bar. We now aim for International level successes. Rio Olympics in 2016 will have to be a special target. We have to carve out our place in certain disciplines that are most suitable to us, such as, Archery, Boxing, Weightlifting and contact games etc.
Manipur has always been proud of producing Olympians, Arjuna Awardees, Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna, Dronacharya and Dhyanchand Awardees. And it is proud to add another distinction, the Olympic medalist with Mary Kom winning a bronze medal in London Olympic. And “I am confident that this would only be the beginning and more will follow in future”.
Today, all sportspersons are needed to pay attention to the basic challenges at a more fundamental level in a state where there is talent in Sports the opportunities would need to be broader based. Our young ones need to be exposed to sport facilities and in an environment where committed coaches and sportsperson are accessible. Despite our apparent successes so far, many have also been denied the opportunities added the CM.
Chief minister further said in view to broad base promotion of sports, government of Manipur has taken up to establishment of Mini-sports complex in all the Hill district head quarter and in valley areas, under the financed of DoNer, NLCPR and under Plan through SPA.
Manipur is gifted with talented football players both boys and girls, and so, the state has been moving the NEC for establishment of a Regional Football Academy in Manipur. The Academy could be moulded into a centre of excellence in football and fulfill a genuine need of the footballers of the North East.
Ibobi, Ghatowar , Bijoy also handed over a cheque to the London Olympians of the North East state and further handed over gifts (Laptop) sponsored by the Sara Jeevan Staff Welfare Association to Manipur Olympians. And further receipt the Jarkhand National games medalist with cash award of Rs. 17 lakh and below.
The opening of seminar was attended by all the Olympians of the North Eastern state.

MNS:- A high level eight member delegation led by Shri Abul Kalam Azad, Minister of Culture and Information, Republic of Bangladesh called on Kumari Selja, Minister of Culture and HUPA here today. During their half-an-hour meeting both the dignitaries exchanged views on further strengthening cultural ties between the two countries. India and Bangladesh share close historical, cultural and ethnic links. The cultural agreement between the two countries was first signed in Dhaka in December, 1972. They appreciated the successful implementation of a number of articles listed in the current Cultural Exchange Programme for the years 2010-12 between India and Bangladesh which was signed on 11th January, 2010 in New Delhi in the presence of the Prime Ministers of the two countries when the Prime Minister of Bangladesh Sheikh Hasina paid a State Visit to India.
The two ministers further exchanged ideas about capacity building and trainings of the officers and technical staff from Bangladesh in conservation and management of archaeological sites. It was agreed that both sides should increase the cultural exchanges between India and Bangladesh. For this purpose the Joint Commission as per article 31 of the current Cultural Exchange Programme (CEP) should be activated so as to meet frequently to review the progress of the implementation of the CEP. Both sides also agreed to strengthen institution-to-institution coordination in the fields of conservation and restoration, drama, literature, fine arts and performing arts etc., apart from exchanging exhibitions. The delegation from Bangladesh expressed interest in the visit of a team led by DG, ASI to Bangladesh to do a training needs assessment on priority.
The visiting dignitary invited Culture Minister Kumari Selja to pay a visit to Bangladesh. The latter invited Shri Azad to the Culture Ministers Conference proposed to be held in New Delhi in February, 2013.
Shri Abul Kalam Azad, along with his 7 delegates, will now proceed to Kolkata for the presentation of replicas of the Padma and Chapola Boats on 12th September, 2012 to Visva Bharati University in Shantiniketan and Rabindra Bharati University in Kolkata.
The Padma boat, along with the Kuthibari in Silaidaha in Bangladesh’s Kusthia district, in intrinsic to Tagore’s creative output, agree scholars. The poet is known to have used the houseboat regularly as a retreat in between his managerial duties at the family estate intermittently for a decade from 1890. On this Boat, Tagore began his English translation of ‘Gitanjali’. ‘Malini’ was also written in during this period.
The Chapala was a dinghy attached to the Padma. The poet used it to travel into narrow strips of water where the barge couldn’t go.
The present visit comes in the wake of the recently concluded 150th birth anniversary commemoration of Rabindranath Tagore.

Imphal, Sep 2 : 28 Assam Rifles of 9 Sector under the aegis of HQ IGAR(South) is organising an Inter Club Open Archery Championship for men at Khuman Lampak Sports Complex, Imphal from 07 to 09 Sept 2012.
The competition will be organized in three categories on the basis of open scoring for Recurve, Compound and Indian Round. Only four archers in each category will be allowed to participate from a club. The categories are Indian Round,50mx2 (total 36 arrows),Individual elimination round and Team event. Recurve Division, 70 Mtr x 2 (total arrows) Individual elimination round and Team event. Compound Division,50 mtr x 2 (total 36 arrows)Individual elimination round.
Recurve and Compound Division matches will be conducted under FITA rules whereas Indian Round will be conducted as per the rules of Archery Association of India.Gold, Silver and Bronze medals for each individual alongwith cash prizes, overall champions and runner up trophy will be given only for Indian Round category. 25 Sports persons were conferred Arjuna Awards for the year 2012, in recognition of their outstanding achievements in the respective field of sports. The Award carries a statuettes, citations and enhanced cash prize of Rs 5 lakh each. The Sports persons are as follows:
Three sportspersons from Manipur got Arjuna awards. They were Laishram Bombayla Devi , Ng. Sonia Chanu and M. Bimoljit Singh. Jagraj Singh Mann (Athletics ), Shri Gundeep Kumar ( Hockey) , Shri Vinod Kumar ( Wrestling) and Shri Sukhbir Singh Tokas ( Para-Sports) were conferred Dhyan Chand Awards for the year 2012 for their contribution to sports by their performance and efforts to promote the sports. The award carries a statuettes, citations and cash prize of Rs 5 lakh each.
With a view to recognize, the contribution made to sports development by entities other than sportspersons and coaches, the Government had instituted in 2009, a new award “Rashtriya Khel Protsahan Puruskar”, which has four categories, namely, community sports development, promotion of sports academies of excellence, support to elite sportspersons and employment to sportspersons.
The Steel Authority of India Ltd. (SAIL) was conferred “Rashtriya Khel Protsahan Puruskar” for the year 2012 under the category of Community Sports Identification and Nurturing of Budding Young Talent . Railway Sports Promotion Board (RSPB) received the award under the category of Financial Support for Sports Excellence . Services Sports Control Board (SSCB) also received the Rashtriya Khel Protsahan Puruskar” for Establishment Management of Sports Academics of Excellence whereas Air India Sports Promotion Board got the award under Employment of Sportspersons and Sports Welfare Measures. Entities selected for Rashtriya Khel Protsahan Puruskar were given Trophy and Citation.
The President also conferred Tenzing Norgay National Adventure Awards for the year 2011 to recognize the contribution and performance of the awardees in the field of adventure sports. Col. Anand Swaroop, SM and Sub. Rajendra Singh Jalal were given award for Land Adventure. Ms. Bhakti Sharma for Water Adventure and Shri Mandip Singh Soin received Life Time Achievement award. The award carries cash prize of Rs 5 lakh and Bronze Statuette along with a citation. Other Arjuna awardees include, Deepika Kumari , Sudha Singh ,. Kavita Ramdas Raut, Ashwani Ponnappa , Parupalli Kashyap,,. Aditya S. Mehta . Vikas Krishan Yuvraj Singh . Sardar Singh.

Imphal, Aug 27: Kh Kothajit Singh, a member of Indian Hockey contingent in the recently concluded London Olympics, 2012 was given a cash incentive award of Rs. 20 lakhs by the State Government today.
Chief Minister Shri O. Ibobi Singh who also holds the additional portfolio of Youth Affairs & Sports presented the cheque of the Rs 20 lakhs to Kh. Kothajit Singh in a function held in the Office chamber of the Chief Minister’s Secretariat, Imphal.
Speaking on the occasion, the Chief Minister said that the government had to accord Olympian status to the hockey player from the State Kh, Kothajit since he had been qualified for the Indian Hockey team for London Olympics. He expressed his unhappiness for Kothajit’s exclusion in the reception ceremony of the London Olympians.
Manipur Olympic Association President Bijoy Koijam, YAS Director H. Deleep Singh, Former Olympian and Manipur Hockey President Ksh. Thoiba Singh, Posterial Hockey Academy Imphal Secretary Ksh. Romesh Singh, father of Kh. Kothajit Kh. Dhananjoy Singh and officials of Sports department were present on the occasion.
The State Government on Aug 19 last felicitated Mary Kom, who won Bronze medal in Women’s Boxing (51 Kg) and awarded her Rs 75 lakhs and she was also promoted to SP , Manipur Police. Other State Olympians namely Laishram Devendro, Laishram Bombayla and Ngangbam Soniya were awarded Rs 20 lakhs each.

Thousands of persons took part in the function. Gifts were presented to Mary Kom and cultural programmes organised. Phungzathang Tonsing, Minister, Dr Chaltonlien Amo, MLA, TN Haokip MLA members of the ADC were also present.
Meanwhile a PIB DW release said a grand Home Coming Reception for MC Mary Kom, an Olympic Bronze Medalist was organized at Churachandpur, her home town to give the most befitting felicitations for her outstanding achievement under the aegis of Churachandpur district Administration on 26 Aug 12. Thousands of people from all section of society turned out to have atleast a glimpse of their daughter and the Nation’s pride during the grand reception programme.
Commander 27 Sector Assam Rifles in his address to the gathering hailed Mary Kom for her massive achievement and the glory which she won for the country and herself. From a humble background to world champion, she has set a milestone for herself in the arena of world boxing. Five time world champion and an awardee of the most prestigious ‘Rajiv Khel Ratna Award’ with an Olympic medal just to name a few, Mary Kom truly is MAGNIFICENT, he added. The Commander also exhorted the gathering especially the younger generation to draw an inspiration and follow the shinning example set by her. The Commander on behalf of 27 Sector Assam Rifles presented her with momento of Assam Rifles.

IMPHAL, August 25 NNN: Manipur Police Department today felicitated the five Manipuri Olympians at a grand reception ceremony organised at the 1st Manipur Rifles Banquet Hall, Imphal.
Addressing the felicitation function, Manipur Home Minister Gaikhangam noted Olympics is the highest international sports event in the world and that the five Manipuris participated in the London Olympics 2012. This participation is very important indeed, he said.
Receiving medals in the games is not only the importance of the event but introducing Manipur to the world is more important, Gaikhangam stressed. He also underlined the need of proper discipline to become a good sportsperson. The Home Minster attended at the event as chief guest.
Manipur DGP Y Joykumar, attending the function as president said there is no place for caste, creed and religion in the field of sports lauding the five Olympians that they have brought laurels to the state by making known the state to the world.
The Manipur police wanted to encourage the Olympians by giving them some present to them from the Manipur police Sports fund and it would render support to the future Olympians of the state, the DGP asserted.
At the function, Rs 5 lakh was given to boxer Mary Kom and Rs 1 lakh each to archer Bombayla, weightlifter Sonia, boxer Devendro and hockey player Kothajit.
