New Delhi, December 8: President of India Pranab Mukherjee gave away National Cooperative Development Corporation awards for Cooperative Excellence– 2012 to 27 agricultural primary cooperatives from different States of the country at a glittering function held at Rashtrapati Bhavan here today. Union Minister for Agriculture & Food Processing Industries, Sharad Pawar, Ministers of State for Agriculture Charan Das Mahant, and Tariq Anwar and other dignitaries and cooperators were also present on this occasion.
Pranab Mukherjee congratulated the best performing societies selected from each State for conferment of NCDC Biennial Awards. The President observed that these awards would inspire other cooperative societies in the country to perform better in the days ahead. He stated that the United Nations declared 2012 as the International Year of Cooperatives to increase public awareness about cooperatives and to promote the formation and growth of the cooperatives.
This year’s recipients of National Level Awards are Dakhin Rampur Gaon Panchayat Samabay Samity Ltd., Distt. Kamrup, Assam under Cooperatively Least Developed States category; Mulukanoor Women’s Cooperative Dairy Vishwandapuri, Distt. Karimnagar, Andhra Pradesh under Cooperatively Under-developed States category; and Samarth Sahakari Sakhar Karkhana Ltd., Ankushnagar, Distt. Jalna, Maharashtra under Cooperatively Developed States category.
In the glittering function, Arambam Renu Devi, Secretary of the Renu Handloom & Handicrafts Cooperative Society Ltd, Imphal East District received the NCDC Award 2012 for the State of Manipur from the President of India. The award carries Rs. 50,000/- and a memento.
The Renu Handloom and handicrafts Cooperative Society Ltd which was registered in 1992. It has achieved business turnover of Rs 47.56 lakhs with the grade of ‘A’ Class. It has 100 members out of which 97 p.c. are women. The society is primarily engaged in production of handloom and embroidery items, training on embroidery, and traning on handloom and design workshop. Its products include bed sheet, curtains, ladies shawl, cushion cover, table cover, muffler, mosquito net and hand bags. As a part of social welfare activities, the Society provides free accommodation and skill upgradation training to its members.
Thirty seven years old Arambam Renu , a resident of Mantripukhri said that she took part in a 6-month training programme on embroidery organized by the District Industries Centre, Imphal, when she was 16 years old. She stood first in the final examination of the training programme and got an embroidery machine and a sum of Rs 18,000/- from the DIC, Imphal. Initially, she started the embroidery works at home and expanded the business bit by bit and then, formed a society. In the year 2002-03, the society got a loan amounting to Rs 1.80 lakhs from the Manipur State Cooperative Bank and the number of the machines increased by 12. After getting another loan amounting to Rs 18 lakhs, she constructed a work shed and a showroom at Mantripukhri. The society had a branch at Moirang. Its products were exported to foreign countries like USA and Italy.
