Imphal Municipal Council’s cleanliness drive needs to be supported by all for it aims at cleaning Nambul River. The importance of Nambul River need not be stressed again and again. When Imphal is in spate the only river that will drain away flood water is Nambul River. Hence Nambul was included in the list of major rivers of the country. The Union Government shows generosity when the state Government seeks fund for saving Nambul river. The Union Government shows readiness to infuse fund for construction of retaining walls along the course of the river. Under the Brahmaputra project a huge amount of money was spent in the construction of the retaining walls. More will come after the state Government have sent utilisation certificate to the Ministry concerned. Regrettably the water of the river has become unusable as human refuses are dumped into the river by the river side dweller. The human refuses are then taken down by the river for final deposition at the Loktak lake. The lake is now filled by filthy materials that include plastic bags. In the very near future the lake too may vanish unless massive effort is made to deepen the lake. Like other thinking men those in Imphal Municipal council understand that serious attention should be given to removing dirt and garbage from Imphal area and dump at low lying area, which has been identified as dumping site by the Government. The warning that had been sounded by the Municipal council authority against non registration of household and shops with the NGOs engaged in the collection of the refuses from different parts of the state capital indicates that large number of citizens in the state capital are still refusing to register with the NGOs. This is not a good trend. All should come out voluntarily and register with the NGOs. In doing so they can consider themselves a part of the save river water campaign. It is shame we cannot protect the river running in our midst very near our home. Moreover the absence of water bodies in the crowded areas will increase dependence on river water for multiple uses. The drive for enrolment should start from Khwairamband bazaar areas where every shop throws out more refuses than they sell. Dirts pile up in front of shops. Such types of dirts are not to be seen in other metropolitan cities of the country. A lesson can be learnt from them. An official of the council can be sent to such metropolitan cities to learn the art of managing with the dirt. Whatever the case may be why we should wait for someone to dictate on how to throw away the dirts and refuses from our home. Vehicles are running in every lane and by-lane for carrying away the refuses away from your home. They will happily oblige to do the service because they get something out of their humanitarian service. Enrol from today and feel the happiness of being a part of the cleanliness drive. Since the garbage collection campaign was started one or two decades back by the NGOs the Nambul river water has become little bit cleaner even during the dry season. The drive must continue.

Imphal, Mar 2 : Political parties staged a sit-in against drug traffickers in front of MPP today. Representatives of MPP, MSCP, CPI (M), AITC, NCP, BSP Shiva Sena, AIFB, JDS and JDU took part in the protest. O. Joy, former MLA said, the deputy HM Gaikhangam’s statements on the seizure of drugs from airport and Chandel incident and removal of SIU was an irresponsible statement.
He does not know whether concerned PS informed the matter to govt. in connection with the incident. Did the state government made laws to curb drug trafficking he asked. The government should take up necessary actions in this connection. He expressed his dissatisfactions as concerned authority did not the real owner of drugs. Why did the personnel of Narcotics fail to know them.
He was of the view that GOI and state govt. should take up measures to ban drug trafficking in Manipur. Dr. M. Nara said, laws became non functional as the laws were not implemented properly It is just like violating state’s laws. He lauded police team for arresting drug traffickers.
Talking to reporters on the sidelines of the demonstration, senior MPP leader O Joy said that the sit-in protest was organized against the unrestrained drug trafficking in Manipur which has the potentials to imperil future generations in the state. He said, “You have heard about the recent seizure of huge quantity of psychotropic drugs along with six individuals, including Ajay Chowdhury, a Col-rank PRO of Manipur Army at Pallel in Chandel district by police and also you know that there are further large amount of illegal drugs which are yet to be seized in the state.”
He said that it is most likely that several top officials of the state are being engrossed in drug trafficking because of the fact that the law enforcement agencies are often turned out to be incompetent to arrest the kingpins after seizing such contrabands. The MPP stalwart also commented that now the three grave challenges being faced by Manipur are drug trafficking issue, corruption issue and political clash.
He stressed that the issue of drug is very important seeing that once a person is hit by drug abuse then he or she has to lead a painful life. Considering this, the state Government should take a major role in tackling drug menace, Joy suggested and said agency like the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) be assigned to hunt for all the drug cartels in the state.
In addition to this, the Civil Aviation ministry should be urged to keep vigil on the alleged uncontrolled Imphal Airport where most of the drugs seizure incidents are being taken place, he further suggested. Most of the leaders participating at the protest spoke on the issue of drug trafficking in Manipur.

IMPHAL, Mar 2 NNN : The people in Churachandpur will organise a huge function in honour of Ms. Neicha Doungel popularly known as Ncy Doungel on March 13 at Kholmun Playground, Churachandpur.
Ncy Doungel is a composer, lyricist and singer hails from Manipur south district Churachandpur. She was awarded the prestigious Mother Teresa Excellence Award at Sapphire Hall, Hotel Senator, Kolkata on February 24 in recognition of her works.
Ms Ncy Doungel’s Jaila-Ai Committee will organise the March 13 event in honour of the composer.
“Ai” is a Kuki traditional ritual performed when a person achieve a rare feat in his or her field of activities. Ms. Ncy Doungel has composed more than 550 songs till date and she deserves all the accolades for her unstinted contribution to Kuki music and literature and the “Ai” Ceremony will be performed to commemorate her rare and outstanding achievements.
Ms Ncy Doungel’s Jaila-Ai Committee member Seoboi Haokip said that Ms. Neicha Doungel popularly known as Ncy Doungel needs no introduction among the music lovers, the imprint she stamped in the hearts of many Lovers speaks it all. She was born in a small Village in Henglep Sub Division of Churachandpur district in the year 13th March 1963 to a poor parent Mr. (L) Lunkhohao Doungel & Mrs. Lamnem Doungel and began her early days of education in Mission Compound Churachandpur. “Music is a medicine to the mind”, even today her songs and music remains an oasis for the broken Hearts and the young and old lovers alike. Her early days romantic Life face a setback when the romance with her dream Lover ended which ignite her passions and love for Romantic Songs. Later she went on to compose many patriotic and country songs also. Bad times, Good times, happy times or any times, name it she has a song for every one for any occasion and for any mood
Born and brought up in a poor family, she had to face many colossal obstacles to pursue her passion. If there is one thing which keeps her away from succumbing to hardships she faced, it is her determination and her love and passion for music. She released her first Album “Vankhopi” in the year 1988 and since then there was no looking back. She went on to create records after records and today she has become the most successful Composer and Singer not only among the Kukis but also in the entire Manipur.

She became a precedence and role model for many fledgling artist and lyricist and most popular artist,” Seiboi Haokip added.
Despite all her achievements and the milestone she created, her prowess remains unsung neither at the state Level nor at the national level. It is disheartening that because of her tribal background and the language she used in her songs which is not developed; her talent will remain unacknowledged despite the fact that she is no less than any of those who have won Awards at the state and national level. Pi Ncy Doungel has contributed to the nation by preserving and glorifying tribal Music and literatures through her songs and music and thus has become a treasure not only for the Kuki community but the entire nation in general and the tribal community in particular, Seiboi Haokip further stated.
The Zaila Ai Committee strives to project her exemplary feat to the highest level so that her talent and contribution gets its fair deal. It is with these objectives in mind inter alia, that the Zaila-Ai committee will organised the ceremony on March 13 at Kholmun Playground, CCpur at 5 pm onward and will continue to endorse till she gets her deserved place. On this day hordes of dignitaries, Politicians, social activist, music enthusiast, will attend the occasion popular rock bands like David Kakap, Rock Guitarist & Party, G-Theory Band, The Mystic band and popular modern Kuki singers will perform to salute this living legendary.
