Against scheduled visit of President Kovind, Cor Com calls 26 hrs gen strike span Source span classbodyboldThe Sangai Express spanp p alignjustifyspan classbodyboldImphal, November 16 2017spanProtesting the President of India’s scheduled visit to the State on November 21, the Coordinating Committee Cor Com has called a 26 hours general strike all over Manipur from 6 am of November 21 till 8 am of the next day According to a statement issued by CorCom media coordinator Ksh Yoiheiba, India followed the conventional tactics of cultural superimposition, economic dominance and military occupation in its efforts to ‘annex’ Manipur Starting from the British colonial period, Indian tradersmerchants came to Manipur and eventually monopolised the State’s trade and commerce After the king of Manipur was forced to sign the Merger Agreement on October 15, the land was heavily militarised and it was brought under an alien rule With the primary objectives of suppressing the liberation movement and consolidate their rule, India imposed AFSPA under which its military forces unleashed all kinds of repressive measures The coordination committee also gave a detailed list of the atrocities committed by Indian military forces On April 26, 1980, CRPF killed four people at Patsoi Langjing, 13 people were massacred and 31 others wounded by CRPF during a volleyball match at Heirangoithong on March 14, 1984, an entire village was set ablaze apart from holding a large number of innocent civilians hostage during Operation Blue Bird at Oinam, Senapati in 1987 by Assam Rifles, CRPF shot dead seven persons on January 7, 1995 at RIMS compound and 10 people were mowed down by CRPF at Tonsen Lamkhai on September 3, 1999 Further, Assam Rifles massacred 11 persons at Malom on November 2, 2000 and Thangjam Chanu Manorama was brutally gang raped and murdered on July 11, 2004 Since AFSPA was imposed all over Manipur on September 9, 1980, military forces have killed 8983 people and 1528 people were killed in fake encounters Assam Rifles alone killed 419 civilians including 10 women and 21 children in a series of military operations carried out between 1979 and 2012 All these massacres, atrocities and killings point to a systematic genocide, it alleged After their military forces could not suppress the liberation movement, they adopted a totally new approach under which Indian military forces took up tree plantation campaigns, organised medical camps, distributed a few embroiderytailoring machines, TV sets, computer sets and organised tours for some students and senior citizens with a sinister design to deceive the people of Manipur and consolidate the alien rule, the CorCom further alleged Being the head of the country which has been forcefully occupying Manipur, people need not welcome the Indian President, it asserted It added that medical services, religious services media, water supply, electricity and fire services would be exempted from the general strike EpnNews19 pspan classnewsheader Security concerns hit mobile network along NE borders
