On 16 Jan, 5 Assam Rifles under the aegis of 59 Mountain Brigade, Red Shield Division apprehended an NSCN (IM) cadre from Karong area while travelling in Hyundai Santro vehicle. Cadre has been identified as Under Secretary of Finance Wing, NSCN (IM) for Senapati region and was also involved in the recent kidnapping of Mr Thoii, Union President of Purul on 02 Jan. Search of the vehicle led to the recovery of two meter green Cordex. Some brown Cordex and 100 gms of plastic explosive. On further questioning, it was revealed that he was planning to carry out numerous bombings to terrorize the public during elections. The apprehended cadre alongwith the recovery was later handed over to PS Imphal (west).

On 15 Jan, 5/9 Gorkha Rifles of Logtak Brigade under Red Shield Division apprehended two lady arms dealers from Kwakta and Phugakchou areas. Apprehendee revealed her identity as Boino alias Boicy (30 years), d/o Kamkho Singsom, r/o Keithelmanbi, District Senapati and one 9mm Pistol along with five 7.62 mm live rounds were recovered from her. Based on follow up action, another lady arms dealer namely Negchin Haokip alias Chin (42 years), d/o Jamlani Haokip, r/o village Tuinom, District Churachandpur was apprehended along-with one 7.62mm Pistol from Phugakchou area in a joint operation by 5/9 Gorkha Rifles and Manipur Commandos. Both the arms dealers confessed to their involvement in illegal arms trafficking for various banned terrorist outfits in Manipur. Apprehendees, along with recoveries have been handed over to Moirang Police Station.

One of the three youths gunned dawn by Imphal West commandos at Iroisemba last night around 8.30 p.m. was identified as Md. Abdul Haq Ali (36) Lilong Leihaokhong . He is the rifleman of 15th AR posted at Thoubal.
In another incident the unknown youth shot dead by Imphal West commandos at Naral Konjil under Wangoi PS on January 14 was identified as Thangjam Anil alias Thoithoi (21) Thangmeiband Sinam Leikai at present staying at his grandmother’s house at Khurai Tinsid Road. He was kidnapped by commandos from a house of a Candidate of Khurai A/C and later killed at Naral Konjil. Meira Paibis staged a sit-in-protest against the fake encounter at Thangmeiband Sinam Leikai today.
Meanwhile the body of Thingujam Bheigya of Naongada Thongkhong was received by relatives after post mortem today. He was gunned down by Imphal West commandos in between Yurembam and Taobungkhok on January 12.

MNS: The Democratic students alliance of Manipur, Desam urged the authority of MPSC to re schedule the combined civil services examinations 2010-11 as the pre-liminary exam was full of mistakes and corruptions. The result of the pre-liminary exam of the said combined exam should not be valid.
The president of Desam L.C. Santosh today said that the combined civil services exam 2010-11 conducted by MPSC were full of mistakes. It should be re-examined in the interest of the students community. The head of the state governor is urged to take attention to the issue. Many questions were found mistake. At least seven question papers were wrong in the exam. There was no confidential question in the exam. 29 questions were direct copy in toto from the CBSE exam. In many answer scripts, the names of the candidates were wrote. It is against the norms and rules of the exam. The govt. should advise to the authority of MPSC to reschedule the said exam, he added.

Imphal, Jan 16: Following the search and rescue mission launched on 14 Jan 2012 in Loktak Lake, troops of 33 Assam Rifles and 5/9 Gorkha Rifles under Loktak Brigade continued their search for the missing fisherman. On extensive search of the Lake the dead body of the fisherman was found inside the Lake water. On interaction with the villagers of Phubala, it came to light that his name was Laishram Tomba Singh, Age 46 years, son of Late L Mani Singh. Mr Lairellakpam Shoben Singh, age 46 years, son of L Nilamani Singh who survived said that the incident took place when he was returning to his village with other two men after fishing. As per him, the Lake became turbulent due to heavy winds and they lost control of their boats and drowned. Troops of 33 Assam Rifles and 5/9 Gorkha Rifles continue their support to the villagers of Phubala following the unfortunate incident of drowning of three fishermen on night of 13 Jan 2012.
