Imphal, Jan 28: Assam Rifles provided assistance to the State Government in maintaining security during polling of 10th assembly election in Manipur.
Besides providing environmental security the forces also assisted in induction of Security forces to far flung places in the state. During polling in one of the incident at Tampi in Chandel district an NSCN (IM) fired and killed four polling official and a CRPF jawan while injuring another civilian named R Anal Singh r/o Chandel Christian village . Assam Rifles mobilised its resources to evacuate the injured by helicopter to kangla for further evacuation to RIMS . The individual however could not survive the gun shot wound. In an another incident troops of 42 AR apprehended one NSCN(IM) man along with an OGW with 0ne 9mm pistol , four live rounds ,one hand grenade and one fired case. He was reportedly involved in firing at village chief in Kairang khullen on 27 Jan 12 . In yet another incident troops of 15 AR apprehended two KCP cadres from Top Chingtha along with one 9mm pistol, three live rounds, who were reportedly in location to disrupt polling.
